Rolling Sushi

I just stopped here for lunch today with two co-​worker. I never get the lunch special because the lunch special is quite expensive for a chicken teriyaki bowl, $ 6.99, which is expensive for a place like this. The buy one get one roll 50% off is no longer available. It’s now buy one get one roll 20% off. Furthermore the place looked empty now at lunch time, which tell me that the business isn’t doing well. Also looks like they let go one of their employee. The owner said that the price is still very good, but the way I see it if the price was good they would have gotten more customers. Quality also went down. We ordered a 28 piece platter for $ 24.99 and when the food came out, the plates did not. The tuna sushi roll was whatever and the nigiri sushi did not look fresh. The nigiri were also cut ½ inch thick which was good for the customer but I think they are losing money because of this. The fish must have been left it out in the fridge too long, because it was dry and there was no taste at all. Maybe because not enough customer come in to eat so they don’t rotate the fish fast enough to maintain the freshness.
I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you desperately want sushi in Duarte, but if you wanted sushi you should go to Sushi Fire down on Huntington and Highland. We left this place hungry and sadly will not return again.

Had a dragon roll and salmon skin hand roll. Both were «okay» compared to other sushi restaurants I’ve been to. The food is passable.

I always prefer the same thing, the sashimi bowl and it’s always super delicious! The fish is fresh and the portion is perfect! I come here once a week and the staff is very nice and very attentive! Thank you rolling sushi!

Friendly staff, good sushi and affordable. I’ve had better but this place does it for me when in the mood for sushi.

If you want to get your sushi fix, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, and can sacrifice on quality, then this place is for you. A better alternative is Maki Yaki down the street, but as of this writing, it is burnt down. Not sure when they’ll be back, but their prices were slightly cheaper and better quality food.

Whenever I need a quick and simple dinner, I would drop by rolling sushi and order my usual Sukiyaki or Chicken Cutlet Rice Bowl at $ 5.99 and sometimes the combo with California Sushi. This is not the place to go for dinner unless I’m really famished as this is close by to what I live.
In summary, used to be a regular customer but after my meal yesterday I’m very very disappointed and doubt I will be back again. The Chirashi bowl that I paid for at $ 11.99 is not worth paying, with the pathetic thinly sliced sashimi that is not fresh, ended up throwing most of it away.

Been going there for a little while. Location is convenient and food is alright. Couldn’t expect too much from a fast food place. But the last time I got real sick from the sushi combo. Probably won’t be eating there again.

Ordered a 31 piece party tray the day before for pickup right when they opened at noon on Saturday. I asked to substitute some items in my party tray from tuna sushi to more salmon sushi. They were very accommodating. My order was ready for me exactly at noon. Super nice and friendly. Would definitely come back!

This place is fantastic. Current specials are buy one roll, get the next for ½ off. You can stuff yourself silly on great tasting, excellent quality sushi for VERY little money. Among the few sushi bars in the area, this is probably the best. Great tasting fish, very friendly staff, and clean. I have never been disappointed going here, always leave full and with a smaller bill then I would have expected. 2 thumbs up.

The white tuna was pretty good and was greated right away it was good over all no to many options in drinks

Today was my first time here. Waited 10 min before I was helped, and watched an employee get fired in front of me. What really saved this review from ²⁄₃ stars was the sushi. Very great and delicious. Will go again and see if service improves.

love this place, clean & the foods are fresh! owner very nice and kind, he actually teach me how to make sushi, I am malaysian chinese, but not too sure how to make japanese foods, I am use to South East Asia foods– spicy, & strong flavour. like curry, satay, etc. the owner not only teach me how, when I asked him, where can I find good sushi sheets, he actually sold me a pack! inside have at least 30 sheets, with his wholesale price, I am impressed, such a nice ppl there! who ever like sushi should go more often there!
But I did agree, the sushi cheft a little bit weird, he keep stare at me! don’t know why. may be I looks like his ex ex childhood girl friend??? ha! :D

food is still great for the price. the salmon skin hand roll is awesome, one of my favorites, not too greasy. I do have to agree with Oscar, the sushi chefs are so GRUMPY! I have eaten here at least 10 times, but never once did any of them smile. EVER! What’s up Chefs, having a bad day? I mean having a bad EVERY day?

Great sushi! Not your typical small rolled fast food sushi. Good size rolls. Prices are great too, buy one get second half off…
Service could be a bit faster but with only two people rolling I’m not gonna complain.

The sushi was great, just the guy that makes it for you is a creep, just stares at you like he hates you or something.

I visited this place recently and it was worth it.
Sometimes I just want to get some sushi that is cheap, quick and casual. Everyone makes sushi a huge ordeal like it always has to be at Nobu or some nice expensive spot, which I can appreciate at times. But expensive does not always guarantee good sushi.
It’s all subjective.
What I liked about Rolling Sushi right off the bat was the restaurant was small and quaint. When I was there, there were 2 chefs. One in the front making the sushi and one in the back making the other entrees.
The prices are good and they have a BOGO 50% off right now, which is pretty good. They also have a deal for beef bowls like Yoshinoya. But that’s for another visit. On my first visit, I tried the sushi rolls along the lines of spicy tuna, caterpillar roll, and spider roll.
The rolls were good, quality of the fish were awesome and service was quick.
I will definitely revisit this place again for a quickie with that sushi. :)

I been wanting some sushi and I came upon this place. I normally just stick with getting the California rolls but the menu is very easy and shows the menu items. The manager was very helpful and friendly. Very attentive to us. We dined in and the area was very clean and well maintain. Prices were well off and the food was delicious! We are definitely coming back here! So glad they make the sushi fresh to order. I been to a few places were they already have it made and it’s cold. Yuck! This place is def worth it :)

Saw this place as I was eating breakfast at McDonald’s this morning. I thought to myself «hmm… perhaps I’ll check this place out for lunch.»
All of the food looked promising. I ordered the lunch special bento box. It came with miso soup, salad, California roll, rice, and your choice of meat (sukiyaki beef, pork cutlet, or teriyaki chicken). Although I was leaning towards getting the beef, I asked which one was the most popular. «The teriyaki chicken» they said. So I chose that.
Big mistake.
I should’ve thought it through since chicken takes awhile to cook, because it took FOREVER for me to get my meal. I already knew I wasn’t going to have enough time to eat it before class was going to start. I was kind of irritated because of that.
But since I was really hungry and felt like being a rebel, I ate it in class anyway (the teacher didn’t mind). The soup was good. The California roll was good. The chicken, however, was dreadful. I mean, it looked good and smelled good, but no. The quality was poor. The texture was very rubbery and some parts had too much fat. Gross! I ate the entire thing anyway because I didn’t want to be hungry anymore. At least the sauce was good.
I think I might be back. Just won’t get the chicken again. Only the sushi.

Came here for lunch today (and once a few weeks ago).
Anyways, this place is located in Duarte, next to the McDonald’s on Huntington Blvd. If you haven’t been to Duarte — well, let’s just say this place isn’t Beverly Hills fancy. But hey, for the prices I ain’t complaining.
Private parking lot– so yay, tons of free parking.
As for the sushi, it was pretty decent. The rolls aren’t the worse, nor were they the best. However, I must say the best part of this place is that they have BUY ONE ROLL, GET ONE ROLL 50% OFF! What a steal. And if this sounds similar to Sushi Box, the owner is sorta the same. EXCEPT, this location is currently having the BOGO 50% OFF DEAL.
Service here is awesome. The workers (and owner) are extremely friendly, and also encourages you to come back next time.
Having said, this isn’t my typical «go to» sushi place– BUT for the BOGO 50% OFF DEAL and if I was working nearby, I would definitely come back again! :)
