It is getting a little rundown but the food and coffee are excellent. Cold smoked salmon lox on an onion bagel… really strong selection of bagels… bottomless cup of coffee. Staff is friendly and prompt and pleasant. My only complaint is the tables are wobbly.

Great spot to meet for coffee and breakfast. Perfect atmosphere for college students as well as older adults wanting to meet their friends or read a book. Friendly service.

The only reason to come here is to get a Jumping Monkey. Granted, there aren’t a lot of bagel options in Duluth, so if you’re craving, you have to make do. But a simple bacon-egg-and-cheese bagel shouldn’t be that difficult to pull off. My last visit yielded a bland, burned bagel, a thin slab of fried egg product, and tasteless bacon. Not impressed. Furthermore, the place is utterly charm-free, resembling a school cafeteria more than anything… which is fitting, if you think about it. Just not all that appealing.

Guys, the reason the place got so bad over the past couple years is because of the management. My mom used to be the manager, then she quit, since it wasn’t paying enough, but since that happened, the new manager changed lots of things for the worse.

The breakfast burrito was atrocious. Canned salsa was the best part. Precooked bacon so thin you can see through it, Microwaved. Precooked eggs, Microwaved. Gross. Cook fresh. Cheaper and tastes better. My college union did a better breakfast burrito. The bagels are good. Staff was slow and curt. Coffee was more transparent than the bacon. The iPad point of sale system is neat, but slow. Why are you doing inventory on your bagels at the register? Sell a bagel, let the customer go. Don’t hold them hostage while you search the point of sale system for the right bagel or tea type. This place had all the makings of a great breakfast place on the surface, but falls woefully short on quality and service. Why bother making great bagels of you are going to put sub par food between? Bummer.

Eh… i guess I liked this Bagel shop back more back in college.(Like 15 yrs ago…) Visited here recently, had a very blah bagel sandwich. Everything bagel toasted with egg, cheese, and sausage. The bagel was just okay. The café itself was super busy on a Sunday morning. Lots of people inside, and a line that did go fairly fast. Where this place missed the mark for me was with the service. Especially the cashier… maybe she was hungover or something, but she was not very friendly. at.all.(I don’t expect Donna Reed or too much friendliness, but geez. would it kill you to smile?) Even the«bagel artists» — –they were a bit friendlier, but still… meh, not the best experience. I won’t be going out of my way to go here again when in Duluth for a quick breakfast.

Over the last 10 years I’ve noticed bagel shops are rapidly disappearing. This is one of the few left, and their bagels are good — if you know which ones to get. I stick with the french toast or chocolate chip; they will put them in the oven for you(takes about 5 minutes) and they taste great. Employees are usually high school kids and it’s their first job; they’re usually nice and since this is their first job I kinda give them a break. They’re open late, and it’s a great place to get some school work done or meet up with friends.

I come here to study sometimes. It’s usually not as crowded as Dunn Bros and their coffee refills are free. They have decent coffee(nothing too mind blowing) and a good selection of food and pastries. If you want a cold treat, get a jumping monkey… if anything just for it’s name. Chocolate banana mocha goodness blended up in a cup. They have free bagel chips that go well with a soup or just for munching on to stay awake amidst boring lecture notes. their French toast bagel is pretty good as is their Thai peanut sandwich & chicken fajita wrap. Now if only they stayed open past 7pm!

Bagels were ok, a little less chewy and flavorful than I prefer. I did have a sandwich and the veggies were fresh. The staff is really friendly and helpful. They did not know if a particluar soup was vegetarian-based, so they offered to look at the ingredients for me. It’s the perfect pit stop for road trips to the North Shore. I will stop again when in town.

Good coffee, OK bagels but lack flavor, password protected WiFi but OK speed, unsmiling but efficient staff, spacious, well lighted seating, convenient location for me.

I come to Bixby’s for the jumping monkey. What, you may ask, is a jumping monkey? It’s the most phenomenal blended espresso beverage I have ever had, comprised of fresh banana, chocolate and espresso. You don’t want to miss this. Of course, the other food is good to. Great spot for a quick lunch or breakfast. Perfect meeting place near UMD in the heart of Duluth. The bagels are pretty great. If you order one with cream cheese be forwarned that you will get more cream cheese than bagel! The thai peanut chicken sandwich is about as good as it gets. There is always a selection of 5 or 6 soups, and several salads. Plenty of vegetarian options. Full espresso menu, and bottomless cups of coffee. Plenty of seating and free wi-fi. Gets busy during the lunch hours, but I’ve never had a problem finding a spot. Bixby’s is not cheap, but if you’re on a budget, the day old bagels are a bargain you don’t want to miss.
