I grew up going to big public libraries in big cities, so I’m kind of a brat when it comes to library systems. But I really can’t say enough nice things about the Duluth library. First, it’s accessible — right downtown with parking all around the building and right on the bus line. Second — the staff is SO nice. We visit Duluth often but don’t live there, and the staff is to a person helpful and considerate. I was working on research project and made several calls to the library for guidance and help in the week or so before I came to visit in person. Each person I spoke with was super helpful and one librarian even called me back because she thought of an additional thing that might help. Then I made my in-person visit to finish my research and use some of the tools you can only use at the library itself. Again, everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. They helped me locate the microfilm I needed, reminded me how to work the machine and even came back to check on me after awhile. I was also quite impressed with the number of online resources available for use even without visiting the library. There are a number of very helpful databases available on the library website. I can’t say much about the book selection since that’s not why I was there. But I did note that there’s an exchange where the library can get books from other branches, which is always nice.
