My girlfriend had her hair colored in the salon and it was absolutely amazing. When she told me about this place, she mentioned the stylists who did her hair. He cuts men hair and actually had cut my hair when I made a recent appointment. I couldn’t help but notice the aesthetics of the salon. It was so clean and gave a friendly atmosphere as the customer service. They assisted me right away and without waiting long I had Louie sit me down and consulted me on what kind of style I was trying to get. With friendly conversations occurring, I couldn’t help but notice how great my hair was looking. End results was one of the best hair cuts I’ve ever had, including customer service. You can expect to see me again as a regular.

Throughout the years I have been to multiple salons including highly rated places such as Studio Oliver and Steve Hightower. However, of all the places I have been to prior to Emily J, I have never seen the same stylist twice.
I’ve been a client of Leah’s for over a year, and my hair has never been in better hands! She gives great haircuts (I really like texture in my hair, so if you’re the same, Leah would be great for you!), but she also does AMAZING color. I’ve gotten balayage highlights with her twice, and each time she’s somehow manages to come up with the perfect color based off super vague descriptions of what I want it to look it and never rushes through coloring.
All the people I’ve seen coming out of Emily J leave with great hair, but if you’re looking for someone new, book an appointment with Leah!

Yuki is the best! She trimmed my hair a few months ago, and it looked great. She listened to what I wanted, and only trimmed the dead ends. I have long hair, and I plan on keeping it that way.
Today I went in for a color change. I had used vegan pink dyes over my naturally light blonde hair, and my new boss told me that it had to go. So after a few weeks of fading it, I went in to see Yuki again. She transformed my faded pinky, purpley, orangey hair to platinum. I’m so amazed! After a great deal of processing, I walked out of the salon with healthy hair. While there is still a teeny tiny bit of pink in my hair, the color looks amazing. I will always go to Yuki for all of my hair needs. She’s incredibly sweet, and very talented.

So a review below states that this salon knows about hair donation and the requirements for donating hair. I’m not expecting every salon to actually send the hair in for me, but I want one that knows the requirements in cutting hair for donation. I called to inquire about this, and the gentleman I spoke with (he did not provide his name) did not understand what I was asking, and with that I ended the conversation without making an appointment. I can’t believe how hard it is to find a salon that understands the requirements of hair donation in this city! Don’t go here if you’re trying to donate your hair for a good cause!

This place and YUKI the hairstylist here is AMAZING.
So a little back story of how I ended up here at Emily J. I wanted to get my hair cut 6 inches for the summer so I had my hair cut at a salon I now will never set foot into (salon rhymes with swisher pans– my stylist there no longer works there) after the lady there gave me a straight cut that was literally a straight cut… the kind your Asian mom gives you when you’re in middle school in order to save money. You know the one. The one where mom uses one scissor, holds your hair dow, and cuts straight across using her eyeball technique and done. I was mortified with the haircut I got and had to get it fixed but I sure as heck was not going to allow that woman to touch my hair any further.
This exact scenario happened to me a year ago where I had to switch salons because my usual stylist moved away and I decide to try out one of the other stylist at the salon. I used Unilocal to help find a salon I could go to with stylists who knew what they were doing. And thanks to all the Unilocal reviews, I ended up setting up an appointment here at Emily J. And boy was I glad I did!
The receptionist was super nice and I was immediately greeted by Yuki who would end up being my stylist. She asked me what I was expecting out of the visit today and I told her my sob story and said I need my hair fixed without shortening the length any further. She told me exactly what her plans were for me and what she was envisioning. I felt comfortable with her professionalism and told her go ahead and do what she needed to fix the mess I had. And, she did.
Yuki worked her magic and within 5 seconds of her shears touching my hair, my hair went from disaster to fantastic! She have me layers and blended the layers beautifully. I am shocked at how well she was able to fix my hair. Needless to say, I had a very very good experience here and will be coming here from now on. And I have found myself a new stylist in Yuki. I just hope she doesn’t ever move away!

Amazing place with a great staff. Everyone is very nice and informative. My hair was taken cared by Louie, Emily, and two others that I didn’t catch their names. They all helped dye my hair which took about a good 3 to 4 hours there, but it was so worth it! The end result was amazing! I will definitely be coming back again in the future.

We were in the area for a party and 3 of us came here each for a wash and style. It is not cheap. After tip, it was $ 200 for the 3 of us. We all loved that they had two people on each of us to mostly dry our wet hair — saved a lot of time. I had Emily and she did a great job on my short hair. I thought the other two looked great, but one thought her long blonde hair looked a little 1980’s ish. So be specific with the look you want. We were in and out in 30 minutes — which was terrific!

Yuki is fabulous! I love everything about my haircut and how quickly and professional she was! Everyone was friendly, the salon is neat and clean and there is plenty of parking. I will definitely be back soon!

I got a natural balayage today, and I am absolutely in love with my hair!!! I’ve always been afraid to get balayage because my hair is so dark, but Chang Hee was very detailed and careful. It’s beautiful and will look amazing even when my hair grows out. This place is very friendly and I will come again! Thank you!

This place is awesome! Yong and her assistant Loveda did a great job straightening my hair. And I have a lot of it. Very patient!

My stylist Leah did a fabulous job! I cut about 6 inches off and got bayalage. I dont get many things done to my hair often (maybe once a year) so I’m really excited that this one turned out very well so I can enjoy this style until the next transformation (next year haha).
I made an appointment about 1.5 week in advance for Saturday morning. I can imagine this place to get completely booked on weekends since everyone is so professional and highly experienced. They also use all natural organic products, which is always a plus.
After getting my hair cut, I still couldn’t decide between balayage and ombré. I’ve had ombré for many many years now but balayage was new to me. Leah recommended to go for balayage and her confidence convinced me and I went for it! During the 4 – 5 hour long process, everyone was being attentive towards all the customers, bringing cushion, coffee and magazines to us.
It took me a couple of days for the colors to settle and really see the effect of it, which turned out a whole lot more natural than I thought. All my friends love the style and I get so many compliments.
I’m super in love with my new style and I’ll definitely be back!

Wonderful energy in this salon. I have been using Yong for several years and she is wonderful with color and cut… I love that she uses a razor to give me lift in the back of my hair! She is also very efficient in her process. I really appreciate that as everyone’s time is valuable!
I have also used them for eye lashes and I was very pleased. She gave me a relaxation oil on my temples and also wraps your legs in air circulation things. I actually fell asleep getting my eye lashes done!

I am completely satisfied with my hair! I was a bit nervous before since there were reviews said they paid for five stars. But honestly, I didn’t get paid and I am still willing to recommend this shop to all my friends. Because everyone meets me says my hair looks awesome especially the color. I have a ash brown kind of thing, according to her it is cool tone.(I was gonna have a ash purple, and idk she might forget to put purple?) anyway, I like it! Very Korean pop girl style. And more importantly, after bleaching to blonde, my hair feel exactly same as before, not damaged which is amazing. Emily and her assistance did a great job! They spent all the afternoon and even a half hour after closing time on my hair. They are awesome. Definitely come back. Might a little pricey but worth the time and penny! And I will see how my hair color remains in the couple months.

I love this place. I walked in and was immediately greeted and checked in for my appointment. They have convenient lockers for my purse with a key that was given to me to keep. My stylist is Yong who is absolutely amazing. Every time she does my hair I feel like a million bucks and tonight was no exception. When I went in I didn’t know what I wanted so I just told her I needed a change and she knew exactly what to do. She explained what she was thinking and went over all costs associated and made sure I agreed before I continued. I have been to places before that will never tell you a price until they are done and it ends up being waaayyy more than expected. If you are in need of a stylist PLEASE go see Yong. She is the best that has ever touched my hair.

I’ve been getting my hair done by Emily for over 5 years now. I live in Buckhead but I make the trip up to Duluth because I simply don’t trust anyone else with my hair. I’ve been to American salons such as Van Michaels and was horrified at the results.
The biggest difference you’ll find with Emily is her ability confidently handle hair and treat it specifically to its needs — for instance, my hair tends to be kind of flat so her color technique is spot on. Also, the way she cuts my hair is wonderfully thorough and accurate. She won’t let one strand go unaccounted for.
I am a lifetime customer. She is also doing my engagement photo hair/​make-​up this weekend! Can’t wait.

I wanted to do something fun with my hair, and after comparing salons, I decided to come to Emily J for the coloring. I made a mistake and went to the wrong location, but they were so nice about it and waited for me to come to the right one. (Side note: new location in Emory Pointe, great option for people closer to downtown!) Shann was very friendly and informative. I was seated and taken care of right away — definitely much better service than some of the other salons I’ve been to. We agreed on going through with 3 processes because I was going from dark to light. Also, I felt so bad holding everyone else up from going home because my hair needed some extra love, but they didn’t rush the process and took care of me so well. Thank you!!!
Prices are not low, but they aren’t high either. Ifyou ask me, it was totally worth it! I LOVE YOU SHANN THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I’ve been going to Shear Love for the past year that Ive lived in Atlanta and wanted a change. My ombré was nicely done but constantly going back to try to get a lighter ash brown hair with dead ends made me feel like trying something new– although I still recommend them for coloring. I really wanted a blonder balayage but not sure why they wouldn’t give me the results I wanted.
I took an immense look at my hair and after a long search in my head, I decided to drive out to Duluth for a hair consultation at Emily J. I found them through the receptionist’s awesome social media skills (don’t be fooled, she knows all about hair from products, colors, toners, treatments, etc). I’ve gotten my hair done at an Aveda salon in Charlotte and the results were unfavorable. After talking with the stylist (Yuki) and the receptionist, I felt extremely assured since they went into detail what my hair would look like. (I have a HUGE phobia of having orange hair… ash ash ash, that’s all I want.)
Their prices are definitely more than what I’m accustomed to (think $ 250 – 300 range… starting) but the attention and detail that you get is worth the money. Also, the salon made you feel like you were getting extremely high-​end services (Was almost tempted to go to Van Michael in Buckhead, but that would’ve blew my budget out the water). Yuki had help with a second stylist (who had just started after taking numerous Aveda classes and she broke down HOW the product colors my hair– they seriously know their stuff). With each service, you get a free add-​on and since my hair was being colored, they gave me a keratin treatment before putting in their hi-​tech toner (their toner is $ 80 more than usual toners at other places; 1 because it cancels out the red more and 2 because it brings health back to the cuticles of your hair).
After 3.5 hours, my hair was a beauty. It was a gorgeous shade of dark ash brown (they also promised that my hair would lighten to what I wanted, after washing the ‘repairing’ toner out more~~). Can’t wait to see the full-​fledge results! Just in time for my Maid-​of-​Honor duties. After that, I’ll be back to add in purple and blonde ;)

I have been coming here for the past five years and each time has been positive. The staff are all great at everything that they do and they truly care about their customers. The receptionist who answers the phone is so sweet and helpful.
I have gotten my haircut here as well as straight and digital perms. There was one instance I came back after a perm because it did not seem to last and it was fixed immediately.
In my most recent visit, I came to get a digital perm to cover up a horrible haircut that I got at another salon (since Emily J was booked for the day). I emphasized my desire to have an experienced stylist and I had the owner, Emily J, and an assistant work on my hair. She also went ahead and recut it and included a PH balance treatment. They were both very informative and explained every step of the process to ensure that my hair would not be damaged.
Overall, the atmosphere here is amazing. The salon is extremely clean and the staff are very professional. I will definitely return for future services.

Amazing service and hair by Emily J! I went for my bridal hair and make up, and she was really nice and explained each make-​up and hair step without being overwhelming. I had a great time getting dolled up :)

I got my wedding makeup, hair and facial done by Emily. She is great! I highly recommend.
I had a Sunday wedding so she accommodated her schedule so that she will be available earlier to do the hair and makeup.
She is really good at doing makeup. She knows that I’m a little bit darker skinned so instead of making me look like those ghostly pale fobs, she knows how to work with my skin type. I loved everything about my hair and makeup for the big day. I highly recommend.
