Kurt’s and Vreny’s Resuaurant and Biergarten, I’m going to miss you in this incarnation. Most dishes were soothing to my soul, and the others that weren’t as awesome were made better by the liters of draft Optimator. They will be coming back in another form around the corner on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. I’ll be here to check it out and keep you updated.

This place saved my ass. I live in Duluth and there is not much to do around here. The food was spectacular, the service was sweet, I enjoyed myself. I strolled over to the other side of the restaurant knowing a place like this had to have more than just a few people in it. There is a banquet/dinner party room, a louder more lit area and where we were seated a nice quiet sit down tables. I was with a particularly hard to please guest and luckily we both enjoyed ourselves. The menu is in German but don’t worry because it’s all amazing food.

Overall food was good, presentation was impressive, and service was alright. I wasn’t as impressed with the beer selection as other have been, they only had around five beers on draught.

Watch out for the Bavarian Schweinehaxe it was hard, not tasty and smelled bad. So watch out if you order it. I’ve eaten the Bavarian Schweinehaxe there last year and it was perfect. Just like Europe. The meat is suppose to be tasty and fall of the bone. Last night I ordered it and it was very hard, not tasty and smelled bad. My only other complaint is there was a very limited selection of Vodka in the bar. Everything else in the Restaurant was perfect and all other food was great. I will go back but not order the Bavarian Schweinehaxe.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for Kurt’s yet! Time to remedy that! I wouldn’t call myself a regular(yet?), but I’ve been there more than five times. The food and beer never disappoint. I’ve had so many things on the menu; everything from the giant pretzel to steak to schweinhaxe to schnitzle to spätzle… if you enjoy German food, it’s all good! I only have one criticism: When the restaurant closes, I always feel immediately unwelcome. And I’m not one of those people who tries to hang around for hours after closing. I’m saying, the restaurant closes at 11 and it’s 11:05 and suddenly the mood shifts. I can’t quite explain the feeling, as no one has ever really SAID anything. It’s just an uncomfortable rushed feeling. Maybe it’s a German thing? Lastly, keep in mind that Kurt’s is a little off the beaten path. It’s almost impossible to stumble across the restaurant by accident. If you have a GPS, use it! You’ll be thankful. I was there last week and we got lost on the way, even having been there many times before.

Been going here for years. One of the few places in town I can keep up with me German. Of course Kurt and Vreny being for a different area than me I get to learn some of their slang as well. Love the food, love the beer, love the owners… really great people and a really great spot!

I’m not gonna lie. This place is a total hidden gem in Duluth. Want a traditional German meal, a to-drool-for beer list, and some authenticity sprinkled on top? This is your spot! We’ve been going to Kurt’s for years, and every time we go it gets better and better. We just had to check out their version of Oktoberfest, and let me tell you, I’m sure it rivals any other in the city. You MUST go. Their Oktoberfest bier list and menu was awesome. I had the day’s pale ale in a very cool glass beer mug. For $ 5 I had the tasty brew AND got to keep the mug, which they offered to wash out for me before we left. Sa-weet! For my meal, I had the usual wienerschnitzel with spätzle and German potatoes. Deliciousness! The creamy dill cucumber salad is excellent as well. Ontop of the belly-stuffing entrees, their dessert menu is FULL of tasty treats. Try their token banana’s foster. If you eat in the fancy part of the restaurant, they actually roll a cart up to your table and concoct it right in front of you. So cool! The restaurant/Biergarten is set super close to the river and has a quaint quality all of its own. I think they might even have some small venue space. Oh…and another thing — they have a pretty stellar FourSquare special, so make sure you check in.

Good food, but eat it quick… We made a reservation online for 8:30PM on a Saturday. The restaurant had a scattering of occupied tables, as did the patio(a.k.a biergarten). Ordered appetizers first while deciding on entrees. The waitress suggested that we better not delay our entrée order because the kitchen will close. Throughout our dinner, she kept repeating that it’s a «private business» and that they close whenever the crowd dies. It was kind of like, if other people come in they’ll keep the kitchen open, but until the other people come, we need to get on with it… When we ordered dessert, they made a point of going to check if they could still cut us a piece of cake. We left a little before 10 and I half expected them to be waiting by the front door with key in hand. Most of the staff appeared to have left at this point. Fortunately, the food was very tasty(the main reason for 4 stars). We started with the swiss cheese fondue and schwarzwald spaetzle with black forest ham and mushrooms. Both were rich, but very good. For our entrée we split the filet edelweiss and a fried lobster tail. They were both excellent. Steak was cooked perfectly and the lobster was very tender. For dessert, we got the black forest cake(fortunately no black forest ham in it). The wife loved it, I thought it was not bad. We’d like to go back to try some more things from the menu, but the trip was definitely tainted since we were made to feel rushed the whole time…

What’s the point of going to a German restaurant if you can’t drink beer? In my case, the question is moot because I have an alcohol intolerance brought on by trying to be immortal in my 20’s, which is another story. I happen to love wurst of all kinds. This is not a stereotypical ‘German’ eatery. They actually have recreated an authentic atmosphere and offer higher level German cuisine than an Americanized wannabe. The sauerbraten is magic, and so is the wienerschnitzle. I even love the spaetle. On occasion, Kurt himself will set up a grill outside to serve a cross-section of his wurst offerings nice and hot with other side dishes. I just wish that they offered a St. Pauli Girl, or any other, non-alcoholic brewski. German food + Diet Coke just misses the mark(soft weeping).

Work in the Duluth area and Kurt’s is our first choice for an office dinner. Food German, Owner German, Staff German, Beer German! The atmosphere is outstanding, the staff is great. It is a wonderful place for a business dinner or just a good night out with your spouse.

I choose this restaurant because I love German food and it was my birthday. The authentic German taste is fabulous. I lived 10 years in Germany and I’m married to a German so I know it for sure. Everyone in our party of five thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Enjoyed it so much that we started a discussion of places we don’t like to eat at either for quality or cost! I also had German bier and it too brought back memories of being in Europe. The food and bier aside, the place looked authentic! With the German music playing in the background, the décor really makes you feel like you are in Germany. If they had German waitresses/waiters, the feeling would be complete. The previous reviewer about the drab décor indicating a lack of financial investment is not true. It is hard to achieve authentic German looks in the USA, but this place has it. Every other German restaurant I’ve been too, including all but one in Helen, looks like American restaurants with German food. Not this one! As in Germany, your food is not pre-cooked or anything prior to ordering. Therefore, don’t expect to fly in and out in under an hour. The only thing not as in Germany is that our food came all at once. In Germany, meals arrived as they are finished. Which means that often, one person could be finished eating while another is just getting their meal. We will be back!

Kurt’s and Vreny’s Restaurant and Biergarten has perfected German food in America. Their Weinerschnitzel is the best I have ever had and their spatzle matches it perfectly. This dish is served with a delcate lemon butter sauce. I was a party of six mostly from in town and everyone agreed it was well worth the drive. The owner is a sour old man who always seems angry and his lack of financial investment is obvious in the old, drab décor is evident. If you bring your own fun and ignore the depressing interiors you will be thrilled with the food and the prices are reasonable. Service is slow so don’t be in a rush.

I recently read a lot of rave reviews of Vreny’s Biergarten, but I have to temper those reviews with some fact. The fact is that Vreny’s was better before. The«real German bread» that they serve is in fact Pepperidge Farm Pumpernickel Swirl. That is not German, rather that is cheap, and a year ago they actually were serving real German bread. The cuisine itself is generally pretty authentic and they’ll even make you a Radler, though also more expensive than last year. The deck is nice, but I would like it better if they would put german style Biergarten tables out on the nice lawn that’s behind the deck. Sitting inside at Vreny’s is not an option, it is darker and less unappealing than a greasy old German«Gasthaus» in the middle of nowhere. Despite the downward trend I have noticed over the last year or so, it is still some of the best German food and beer in the Atlanta area.

This place never disappoints! Always something new and interesting. As German as food can be in ATL. Worth the drive. I’ve eaten everything on this menu and I have always left happy and full. Visit enough and the entire crew will know you by name!

This is probably one of my favorite new found restaurants. It’s tucked away off PIB a little north of Pleasant Hill Rd in Duluth. I’d agree that it is a bit secluded, but good things in life are hard to find! I haven’t had much German food, but if all of it is like this I might just think about moving there! The waitstaff is very attentive and knowledgeable about their menu and drinks. They introduced me to my some awesome German beer, which went great with the boiled lobster and crab martinee! I would definitely recommend the Chef’s Dinner with a Crabmeat Martini followed by a Swiss Salad and the pork main dish, which comes as a ginormous piece of tender pork right off the bone. I never really liked pork, but this was by far the best I’ve ever had! One of the owners stopped by our table and we chatted for a bit. Overall, I’d say it’s got a great atmosphere, good beer and good food! What more could you want? I’d definitely recommend stopping in if you’ve never been here.

Great place for traditional German dishes and German beer. If you want German food, but don’t want to go up to touristy Helen to get it, this is the place. And it’s so much better here too! Also, my family ate at Kurt’s for Thanksgiving this past year and it was amazing. One room was dedicated to cheeses, fruits, and salads. Another room had the hot sides, a carving station for the meats, and a seafood station(crab, shrimp, and salmon). There was also a dessert table, set up by the bar. Only a few things were traditional German(potato salad, apple strudel), but –everything– was tasty. Kurt and Vreny really do know how to cook!

BEEEEEER!!! I’ve been just once and always think about this place when I am in the area. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and beer. The wieners were… thank god there was beer. I think it is a cool place to take out-of-town people because it’s a German restaurant in the middle of suburbia. And the beer.

Vreny’s is a casual restaurant, adjacent to the more upscale and formal Kurt’s Steakhouse. It’s WAYOUTINTHEMIDDLEOF F*CKINGNOWHERE, miles and miles up Peachtree Industrial. I can’t give 5 stars for anything that far away unless its named Laki’s or Portillo’s. But seriously, this place is in the middle of an office park! You would never know it was there if you hadn’t looked up German Restaurants or otherwise heard of it before. Anyway, as one would expect, they have many fine German beers available, as well as a few Belgian beers as well as their own brews. I tried ordering some Belgian beer with 14% alcohol just to see what that would taste like, but(un?)fortunately they were out. I had a pint of the Dinkeldorf which was a dark beer without the bitterness of a Guinness. I enjoyed it about as much as I’ve enjoyed any beer(I’m not a big beer drinker) The food was pretty good. I had sauerbraten which is lightly pickled roast beef. It was served with some dumplings and red cabbage which I also enjoyed. My wife had a sausage platter with sauerkraut and fell in love with this place. I enjoy German food. She loves the stuff though. After our meal, we shared a Black Forest Torte, a large slice of three-layer chocolate cake with whipped cream and kirsch-soaked cherries. Delicious. Unlike the first reviewer, I don’t feel that this place was pricey. We did spend just under $ 50 before tip but that was for two entrees, three alcoholic beverages and dessert, which sounds pretty reasonable to me. I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind the long drive from points intown.

One of my Deutscher faves. Adjacent to Kurt’s Restaurant, Vreny’s is much more casual. The bier selection is commendable(they have«Rauchbier»… mmmm, smoked beer…), and the menu is thoroughly German, and goes beyond standard schnitzel and wurstplattes to things like Kassler Ripchen and Shweinehaxe(pig’s feet). Which I don’t recommend by the way, because pig’s feet should only be eaten in large smoky tents in Bavaria. While singing and completely hammered. The service is acceptable, and the menu prices aren’t bad. There is a nice patio however I’ve only dined indoors. The décor is kitschy German lodge, but that’s expected and no demerits there.

Went to this place on saturday evening to meet some collegues for dinner; and Vreny’s to be quite enchanting. I don’t recall the liter of dinkledoff-whatever that was the suggested drink of the evening, along with the oh so smooth shots of God only knows what, just the $ 50 Reuben I had — just above Jason’s Deli quality. But our waitress was so lovely with her proper German pronouncation and natual tan and blonde looks, that the 4 stars remain. This is a good date spot fellas… especially if you reside OTP as I currently do. Oh one more thing… the more you drink the more German music sounds like Mariachi music. Get the Fondue.
