I had never heard of this restaurant but decided to give it a try since they were going to have live music. When I arrived we weren’t greeted by anyone. After waiting 20 minutes our order was taken. I’m allergic to vinegar and was informed that the only thing I could have on the menu was deep fried vegetables due to the fact that everything is sanitized with it. After not enjoying my food, paying an expensive total and having the worst service possible(40 minutes to receive our food and have someone bring us placements) I am sad to say I will not be coming back. I held such high hopes since it was a reopening. Another thing, if you know you’re going to be busy perhaps having more people on staff would be useful. Everyone was clueless at to who had been helped and such.

So glad you are still serving your great food in the Blue Sky Room(just a few doors down from Senthoing’s). Always fresh ingredients and tasty sauces.

Hands down my favorite food in town. This place is locally famous for it’s spring rolls, when guest from out of town come, this is where I take them. My favorite is the thailand steak, which is very tender; it melts in your mouth(cliché, but true). The salad dressing is practically desert, it tastes so sweet. And I do wish they were open all day, because sticky rice would be my go-to to-go snack! If you like top quality mixed drinks, know that anything you order here will be made w/top shelf ingredients. Sengthong’s deserts are the best, too. Super chocolate amazingness or coconut-vanilla tapioca… You might just have to order both. And to address teh review about long wait time; everything is cooked«to order» here, including sides and some sauces. Many people don’t know that what they are getting at ‘nice’ restaurants is usually, in part, precooked(sauces, sides, ‘base’ meats & veggies for multiple dishes). I don’t know about you, but I’ve never cooked a decent meal in less than ¾−1 hour from food prep to sitting; so waiting 30 minutes for excellent food while enjoying salads, drinks, and friends is a nice experience, I think. Open only Thursday through Sunday, plan your I5 trip around this dinner spot!

Food was OK. Not great, not terrible. If you’re in a rush, skip it. We waited a long time for our meal. By the time it arrived we were hungry enough to give just about anything remotely edible three stars.

Getting my weekly fix. One of the best restaurants I’ve ever frequented and note: I lived in LA for nearly 20 years. Sengthong’s food is exceptional!

The best food I have had between Sacramento and Portland. I have come here maybe 5 or 6 times over the last 10 to 15 years. Always great food and a good place to rest when traveling between Oregon/Washington and SF/Sacramento. I often find myself trying to arrange my trip so that I can hit Sengthong’s for dinner. It is well worth the effort and I find the quality to be what a demanding foodie in SF requires. It may be a bit more expensive than some of the other places in the area, but if you really want great food, you will go here.

Great food, great service, wonderful owners. They have been proprietors of terrific Asisn quisine for many years in unsuspecting small Northern California towns. They have been in Dunsmuir for a number of years now; previously they were in Etna where their food was a pleasant surprise for those visiting the Marble Mountains and surrounding areas. We had the ling cod special and it was cooked to perfection! On previous visits I have had curry dishes and black bean sauce dishes. All were wonderful! Be sure to order the sticky rice with tamarind sauce as a side if it is not part of of your entrée. It’s yummy!

Truly a gem along the 5. Introduced to this iconic establishment some 2 years ago, this asian fusion fare is phenomenal. From traditional dishes to creative combos the food is fresh, light and flavorful. Her kitchen techniques produce some of the most refreshing asian flavors i have had in a while. the best adjective i can come up with is «light.» By that I mean each dish seems to lack the heavy oils that can be so prominent in many asian dishes. Will definitely be back again and again…:0

Amazing food. Seriously some of the best Thai/Vietnamese food we have had. Everything is lovingly prepared and cooked to perfection. We would eat here often if we were local. It is so nice to have even the side veggie made with top ingredients and cooked properly. Everything made to order and worth the wait. People who own it are super nice and friendly and gave us lots of local advice when we asked about things to do. Highly recommend.

This is one, if not the, best thai places in all of Northern California. Yes, I’m including the Bay Area. That being said, it certainly isn’t on the cheaper end of things, so be warned– you’ll be spending a bit more than usual. Another note: this is northern thai cuisine, which means it blends thai, Laotian, and Vietnamese together. Expect fresher dishes with more cilantro and lime, rather than common, heavier southern thai dishes. Favorites are Laotian hot spiced chicken and spring rolls(seasonal). Be adventurous here and order something you wouldn’t normally get at a thai place(think past pad thai and green curry!). This is seriously some of the best thai food I’ve had outside Thailand(granted, my time spent there was in the north, so I might be biased). Bottom line: if you have a bit of time and are driving on that section of I-5 when they’re open, skip bad burritos in Weed or Mt. Shasta and give this a go. You won’t be disappointed.

This is exactly why I love Unilocal.Small local restaurants can get the recognition they deserve and thrive in obscure locations. It your one of those people that need hip and trendy — stay in San Francisco. If you are a road warrior like me that hates fast food and looks for diamonds in the rough — this is a true gem. The food here is incredible! We enjoyed three dishes and wish we could have has more. The kids favorite was a perfectly cooked sticky rice with a peanut, garlic and sesame goodness. A Thai fish, Laos chicken dish and a Vietnamese stew. Each one better than the last. If your on the I5 heading North — save your appetite. If

If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would! First of all, we arrived at 8:54pm on Saturday and they welcomed us, even though they were closing in 6 minutes. We felt bad, and we offered to leave but they insisted we stay! I ordered the Laotian Hot Spiced Tofu, and my husband had the special which was a seafood soup. We also started with the Gyoza Potstickers. Potstickers were good. Loved the sweet/slightly spicy sauce that was served with them! The Laotian Hot Spiced Tofu(he asked me how spicy on a scale of 1 – 10 and I chose 7, which was perfect for me!) was one of the best Thai meals I’ve ever had! I ate with my hands! So fun! I ate until I was stuffed and I still finished my entire meal. I couldn’t let it go to waste. It was just the right amount of cilantro to cabbage ratio, and I loved how the tofu soaked up all those flavors. My husbands seafood soup was also very, very good. Using the rice to make little balls and placing them in the soup to soak up the broth was such a great idea! We loved their cooking so much that we ended up having breakfast with them as well, at McGuire’s!
Amazing food in a very small town. HIGHLY recommend!

This place is spectacular! While doing a road trip down the 5 we needed to stop for dinner. I found this place on Unilocal and it said it was open until 830. We called in to order out, and discovered that it as only open until 8pm. The owner apologized for the mix-up, and said that if we were just ordering out, he would still make us food — WHAT A GUY! When we got to the restaurant, our food wasnt quite ready yet. The owner welcomed us into the closed shop and chatted with us while they finished cooking our dinner. Dinner not being ready was actually very fortunate for us, because we would have had no idea how to eat the meal we ordered! The owner kindly explained the proper ay to eat our dinner, and was very personable and comical in the process. We ordered the Laotian sticky rice and Laotian spicy beef and they were spectacular! A truly unique experience for us eating Laotian food. The spicy beef was prepared with great spices and several veggies, and upon ordering the dish the owner asked us how spicy(1 – 10) we wanted the dish, which allowed us to enjoy the dish to our liking as spice is not our strong suit. And the sticky rice could be eaten alone its so good, but the dipping sauce it comes with was unbeatable! Any time I pass through Dunsmuir around lunch or dinner time, I will be back for the spectacular Laotian food!

Amazing food! An absolute must if you are going through Dunsmuir. The food is truly unbelievable. Considering the high quality ingredients and skill that goes into the cooking, I think this place is very reasonably priced. You would pay WAY more in San Francisco and the dishes here are special.

If you want the best Thai/Vietnamese look no further. Sengthong’s is the best Thai restaurant in Siskiyou county if not in Northern California. Their Laotian beef dish and their Thai sea food stew are exceptional. Great flavors, spices and herbs. Nice salads and steamed or stick rice as sides. Wait staff friendly and attentive. Be prepare to have a moderate wait to get your order. The reason, nothing is made in mass. what you are getting is authentic Thai/Vietnamese being prepare fresh. It is tremendous and well worth the wait. It is a bit pricey(but this is not your fast food thai place), for Siskiyou county but the food is great and well worth the price.

I don’t like to eat out by myself, but I just wasn’t up for cooking and I wanted some Chinese food but I was too lazy to drive up to Mt. Shasta, so I decided to go to this restaurant and try it out. I sat down and looked at the menu, and the prices were in the twenty dollar range. As someone who is on Socialist Insecurity the price gave me a pause. However, I decided to man-up and give it a try. I wasn’t disappointed. I had a Laotian beef dish that was completely off the hook. It was great. This was served with a small, nicely decorated salad. The service was very good. So I highly recommend this place but it is a bit pricey. But it’s worth the money.

Took friends to Sengthong’s for Valentine’s Day dinner, which isn’t a fair time to judge a restaurant since it’s such a busy night, but we really enjoyed our meals. Varied dishes, new flavors, friendly crew. Sengthong and her husband Don have to be the hardest working couple we know. He served that night and she cooked. We left about 9:30 and they were still going. Next morning, we walked to McGuire’s, their other restaurant, for breakfast, and there they both were. They left Sengthong’s at 11:30PM and were back at work, only at McGuire’s, somewhere around 7AM. And yet, Don took the time to talk with us about some of the big, old, very cool photos on the wall, which we asked about. Sengthong came out and visited, showing us all a picture of her new grandson. My husband and Don had a few good laughs about the trials and tribulations of owning businesses(we have several, too). AND that meal was also a solid thumbs up affair. Looking forward to more visits to both of their restaurants!

The Chicken Curry is amazing and their Potstickers are to die for! The bar side is nice for having some good drinks with the bar menu. If you’re looking for a quiet dinner, shoot for the restaurant side. It is a bit pricey but seeing that they’re the only Thai restaurant in town, it’s well worth every penny!

I read about this place on some 1989 article about surprisingly good find off Highway 5( ). On my drive from CA to WA, I decided to stop by this place and try out this restaurant that has been recommended since 21 years ago. I have to say, the food is not your typical Thai but more of a pan-Asian place and for that it’s a worthy stop. I ordered from a banquet menu and it was a lot more food than 4 people can finish. The Lao sticky rice with the dipping sauce was very tasty. The salad was fresh, the Vietnamese seafood combo had better seafood than I had anticipated, and the cashew chicken has the chef’s mark on it. The place is tiny, the service may be slow at times, and the price is more on the high-end side. Nevertheless, for the originality and the flavors, do make a stop here if you are looking for an unique place to stop off Highway 5.

I have been eating at this restaurant since in opened(originally in Etna, CA — where I first tried it). The food is always wonderful. I always get the spicy beef w/peanuts & mint. It is my favorite dish on the menu. On my most recent trip, my husband ordered the curry and it was very subtle and very yummy. I had the spicy beef and it comes with sticky rice. We tried a soup that was very yummy and had light, delicious flavors. I would ALWAYS recommend the Thai Coffee. I would also recommend this restaurant to anyone. The service can be slow(er) as Senthong is the only cook. She prepares the dishes individually to order. SO if you’re in a hurry, BURGERBARN is about ½ a block up the street! If you are willing to wait — you won’t be sorry!!!
