Tried this place for the first time last night. Burgers are char grilled and cooked properly, so they stay juicy and tasty. Fries are cooked crispy. Couldn’t ask for much more. Oh, and the service is fast. We’ll be back.

If your looking for the classic burger theme this is the place to be. Monday’s they have a promotion giving discounts on charburgers fries and drinks. So this makes for good family time and is nice on the pockets. My children love this spot just as much as I do. The burgers are freshly grilled and all the ingredients are fresh which makes for a great burger. My favorite is the milk shakes of course, I like my milk shakes on the thicker side and they meet the mark. The customer service is good, love the personality of the person at the register. The plus side for those who enjoy a good craft beer is that you can get one there in there and enjoy it with your meal.

I still love Char-Grill better than Cookout. Milkshake battle: Cookout has all kinds of milkshakes whereas Char-grill only has some traditional one like chocolate and vanilla. But to my taste, cookout milkshake is made of processed cream whereas Chargill made with real milk. Burger: Chargrill ‘s burger is the king comparing to all other places. Cookout is incomparable. Service: Cookout has to wait in a long line usually, and so does Chargrill. Price: Cookout is cheap. But cheap price is due to horrible cheap ingredients which are bad for you health. Char grill is always a better option. Chargrill is very old fashion, only has burger, french fries and limited snack options. But I love it here.

Great friendly service. Love the throwback feel of the place. Their fries are my favorite thing on the menu. Crispy on the outside they remind me of a fry stand in Amsterdam and go perfect with ketchup or some mayo packets. The hot dog known as the Vick dog, only available at this location I hear, is the best way to take your dog. Simply write on the menu ticket under hot dog as the«grilled Vick dog» and you will get an amazing brightleaf red hot dog grilled with chili, mustard and feta. A secret menu item that can’t be beat. As a fan of burgers in general this one is an average offering. Stop by on Mondays and it will satisfy your cravings at half the price. The worst thing on the menu is the grilled cheese. With as good as the rest of the items are, I was surprisingly disappointed with this menu item and warn you to not purchase it. If changes are made I will update my review to 5 stars. On top of the good food, the bottle shop attached to the dining room is a super awesome feature present in no other chargrill restaurant offering beer on tap to go with your burger. Definitely a big plus.

Check your food before leaving … Has happened more than once to me at this location… ordered lettuce, tomatoes, pickle etc — got a sad cruddy burger with nothing on it. May never go back.

This place is awesome! I usually visit in the day and the staff is always friendly. I don’t feel like the bar effect the diner part at all. Keep up the good work Char-Grill of Durham shout out to Jahlil and Marko.

We try to go there at least once a week. I finally got to try the grilled hot dogs. OHMYGOODNESS!!! The best hot dogs with everything on them. My granddaughters love their fries. That is all they want. If you want a grilled hot dog, make sure you write«grill» on you order form. You will not be sorry at all. The service is outstanding.

Burgers. Fries. Shakes. What more do you need to know? Okay, you want more? It’s an institution. Not like a mental hospital, more like marriage. A lovely marriage of char and grill. Ordering by paper slip is confusing your first time, but you’ll get the hang of it.

The place is great. The atmosphere is wonderful. The layout is like a 70s style diner. The food is super.

Perfect place to go when you want a quick meal, but not from a large fast food chain. Very speedy service. Great burgers and fries.

I’d give it 3.5 stars for the food, but the changes made since adding the«bottle shop» has IMO changed the experience, including the music. I’ve noticed in the last year the burgers are frequently overcooked, making them dry. When I’m willng to trek further I’ll go out of my way to the Cary location, but sometimes I just don’t want to go that far since this one is in my neighborhood. Several months ago they sectioned off an area with glass walls to add a tiny tasting bar selling beer by the bottle and on tap. It’s made for very closed quarters in the dining area, plus there’s a second location right across the street of The Bottle Shop. How can you compete with them? Tonight it was another dry burger and they’ve now changed the music from what was fun 60’s-early 70’s album rock to some whining gut wrenching screaming head banging ties my stomach in knots music. Not what I want so this was my last trip there.

Very good classic burgers. Cooked just right! Good prices. They have milkshakes too. I didn’t get to try one, but definitely will next time. I also liked their fries. Very casual atmosphere. They have a small but very good beer store located within the restaurant. Nice touch!

Chargrill is one of the best burgers in the Durham and Chapel Hill area. Although I live right beside Five a Guys I make the trip down to Chargrill quite a bit. I love the taste of the burgers. I am not as big of a fan of the fries but they aren’t terrible. This location has also recently added booths and better seating. It is one of the only inside seating Chargrill locations I’ve been to.

These guys have taken your average fast-food burger and turned it into something so much more! The char-grilled flavor is like eating a burger that really has been cooked on a backyard BBQ, and in my opinion is of higher quality and better flavor than Cook-out’s burgers. And it far exceeds anything you could get at any other fast-food joint there is. Honestly if you have not tried this place yet, you need to. See for yourself how good they are, and why USA Today rated them the top burger joint on the East Coast… Now if only they offered Cheerwine Floats… :-)

Pretty awful experience here. Food = 2.5 — 3 stars. Ambience and service = 1 star. I was so excited to try this local restaurant because of my fellow Unilocalers’ recommendations! This place is strange as hell. The workers are quarantined off in a glass cage and you order and place the slip in a drop off box. No workers are outside the glass box. Ever. The tables were dirty, and wanting to clean off the table, I asked the worker(who turned out to be the manager) where I could find napkins. «Oh, they will come with your order.» WTF. When I come to a burger store, I expect to get my hands dirty and will be requiring more than one napkin. The burger had that charcoal taste to it which was good but the fries were NOT that great and the portion was very small. Will not be coming back.

I saw this place and the name sounded intriguing. Maybe because the names reminds me of the Char-Griller that my Dad used to cook our burgers when I was growing up. Atmosphere — Inside appears like an outside(see photo), metal tables & chairs, large enclosed cooking area, bright. Service — friendly, select what you want off an order sheet and slide it into the specially designed slot, do not forget to sign it. Food — I order the ¼ lb Char Grill Burger, which is basically a rectangle shaped steak burger. This was placed on a steak hoagie bun that was covered in sesame seeds. I also ordered a side of fries and a drink. The steak burger was really good, though I had order envy as I eyed the square ½ lb steak burgers my coworkers ordered. I was surprised how juicy and tender the steak burger was as it resembled a tender knit. The fries here are delicious steak fries that are crispy w/soft centers. Drink refills are free too. Overall — A great and tasty burger that is perfect for lunch.
