The one and only reason they didn’t earn five stars is because of the abhorrent customer service experienced yesterday evening. One of the staff working decided to sit at the window and eat her freshly made food BEFORE serving the line of customers outside. They were the only vendor left with fries after homecoming, but their food is always terrific. Just beware of bad service.

I went for the fried chicken & of all the things I ate it was my least favourite. Don’t get me wrong, it was good — it just wasn’t great. However, the service was wonderful, the candied yams, cold slaw, hush puppies, corn bread & sweet tea hit the spot… I doubt I’d return but I am so glad I went(if nothing more than the service — southern hospitality at its finest). Can I get an Amen!

I took a group here last night and all our meals were wonderful!!! I had ox tails again(YUM), michael had fried chicken(YUM)– we both had cabbage and lima beans our sides. Lakenda had trout(YUM) with a double side of cole slaw and she got hush puppies rather than the cornbread(YUM) we had. Lovely people. I hope they adopt me :-)

Great service and a great menu. This little place is awesome; if you are looking for some home cooked food for a great price try it out. I dropped in when I had a few hours to kill and I loved it. If I am ever in Durham again I will drop by again.

Back when I was a little girl, at least once a week I would skip over to my grandma’s for lunch. While everyone else was having the lunch lady spoon them out gruel in the school cafeteria, my grandma would have a pot of greens, smothered pork chops, cornbread and black eyed peas. If she wasn’t with Jesus, I’d swear JC’s Kitchen might have grandma working in the back. Ooh ooh wee! This place reminds me of the Pink Teacup in New York City. The fried chicken is perfectly seasoned, hot, and fresh from the fryer. The collards were sublime and the yams were sweetly sinful. The décor is a throwback to the sixties luncheonette, but the food is why you would stop here. The prices are really reasonable too, and the waitstaff are really nice.

I’ve passed by this mysterious yellow building so many times this past year and finally decided to drop by. The inside I have to say is a little dim, but the excellent hospitality I was greeted with totally counteracted that. They have a wide range of items on their menu at VERY awesome prices. You can get a combination plate which includes your main entrée and two sides for $ 6-$ 8. They have your usual chopped BBQ, fried chicken, fried turkey, cubed steak and for those of you more adventurous ones out there — pigs feet! You have to get there early though. I was there at 12:30PM and they were already out of chopped BBQ. Bad for those of us who come later in the day, but a good sign that their food is great. I ordered the fried chicken combination(you can pick from white or dark meat) with a side of candied yams and collard greens. I washed it down with a delicious, but outrageously sweet cup of lemonade. I literally had to cut the lemonade with a full cup of water, but it was good nonetheless. Then, you have the opposite end of the spectrum with the food being pretty heavily seasoned. I personally don’t see this as a bad thing because I’ve been to a string of restaurants lately where the food was just way too bland. So this is just a warning for those of you who don’t like your food too salty. The fried chicken was decent, but the yams and collard greens were the best I’ve had in a really long time. They also offer different desserts daily. They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner M-F, but they’re only open for breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. If you haven’t tried this place before, please do. Both food AND service is great, which believe it or not, is a very rare combination these days.
