We went to Lloyed Lounge last Saturday. HORRIBLE!!! STAYAWAY!!! SCAMALERT!!! I met the owner, she’s the scantily dressed woman watching over her parking lot watching cars being towed away. I visited the bar at 11pm on Saturday night and I was the ONLYONETHERE. I asked for scotch, they didn’t have any… so i ordered a cheap beer, they have that. I drank my beer and left still the only one there besides the bar tender and his helper. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the entire bar is a SCAM and they are making their money off of the towing for $ 200/pop which they seemed pretty busy doing as quickly as they could. This place is a disease for downtown Durham. For a city trying to come up and for these guys to abuse the patrons, it’s a sorry thing to do. The owner and tow business should be ashamed.

I am so late to review this place! But, on the CMYE Bull City Christmas Costume Pub Crawl the other night, we passed by on our way to Fullsteam, followed by Motorco, and I remembered my evening there with Christina G. and Phil G. fondly. We were a little nervous about going in, but were beckoned over by one of the co-owners who, despite his imposing height and build, was really friendly and welcoming. Christina’s review basically said everything I wanted to say. I don’t know quite what this place is, nor do I think it knows. We joked that it was a front for some mafia f***ery but, I mean, we don’t have the mob here, do we? Like Christina said, the drinks are expensive, particularly considering they’re served in plastic cups. They only had, like, three types of beer on tap, the best of which was Yuengling. Bleh. They need to get some dang Fullsteam, considering they’re neighbors. The bartender was nice enough, but she didn’t really know how to pour beer. It was actually pretty funny: the head kept overflowing onto the bar and she just looked at it, perplexed. The place has been opened for the better part of a year now, so I’m sure things have changed. This is a weird little dive bar, that definitely has the potential to turn into a weird little dance club late some Saturday night. I hear they have a DJ some nights. Dang, we really should’ve worked this joint into the Pub Crawl.

My girlfriend had her bachelorette party at «Lloyd’s Lounge». It was the perfect spot. From black linen table cloths to LCD t. v’s. We had private tables set aside in 2 different rooms! The music sounded great so we danced all night long! I am not familiar with Durham at all but it was so easy to find. The neighborhood was nice. I am definitely going back soon.

Me, Phil G, and Helena K must have looked like novice –dorky– drug dealers standing on the street corner outside of this place, looking shifty, all on our iphones at the same time. The nondescript sign: Lloyds Lounge, with a few music notes had us wondering if it was a karaōke bar or dueling piano bar. And since it wasn’t on Unilocal, all curiosity was definitely piqued. FTR! The building looks like an old house, and until two fellas sauntered up, poked in and flipped a switch, there were no lights on inside. We finally walked over to them and asked about it. They told us it’s a bar that’s only been open for about two-and-a-half months, and they’re trying to raise a little awareness. So we of course had to check it out and report back to you guys about it. =) The actual bar area is kind of small — maybe ten stools. Two TV’s up top. Last night, they were playing some bizarre show that included scenes such as the guy who could gyrate his tongue around in his nostril. Uh, yeah. But there was Chexx Mix at the bar — awesome and addictive. Especially those cheddar bits after a few drinks. The place was really quiet except for a few other patrons, who seemed to know the owners. Black furniture and red walls make it a pretty appealing spot to hang out in. Seating is on the right, and it seems to be a dance floor off to the left. Helena told me there were even VIP rooms toward the bathroom. But at the end of the day — and after receiving my bill — I have to knock it to three stars. I was charged $ 7 for a gin and tonic. Outrageous! That’s the same price as their«specialty» cocktails. And it’s also only a buck cheaper than the amazing drinks I was just served up over at the much-revered Foundation. For that price, I can serve up stronger ones and watch less-weird TV at home…
