Waffles, bacon and, scrambled eggs are tiny for breakfast. Hashborwns are always yummy! They’re are always flies in there and lots of them. Cook’s aren’t using gloves. I got an omelet a few times, but every time I did it made me sick to my stomach! There tea and orange juice was always nasty to me.

If you can’t get a job, go to Waffle House. Everyone who works here can barely hold a glass. Order a simple grilled sandwich and wait most of an hour to get it. I can see the chef chain smoking out back by the dumpster.

Update: went to this place again today. I stand by my initial rating. I’ll paraphrase Rick James: «I wish I had more hands. So I could give those [waffles] four thumbs [up].»

Unfortunately due to transportation we have to go to this location. There is only one person who knows how to cook in this establishment. The cooks and staff are always cursing and fighting with each other. The wait staff gets upset if you ask them for anything and get offended when we ask for to go supplies. The way you clean is disgusting. What sanitation expert even let this place stay in business. Really a 94 it took me 3 minutes to realize I wanted to cancel my order. I can to this place twice in two different occasions and it look exactly the same. I have worked in the restaurant business and I know if you can sit you can clean. It’s also sad to have to remind ppl to wash their hands after a cigarette break. I was done when I saw the sweat running down the cooks face trying to wear a jacket under his work uniform, rubbed it off with his sleeve and then continue to cook after putting his cooking utensils on his sleeve. After that I was beyond done. I will never, I am so glad they are building a brand new one on 54⁄55 hopefully they put ppl with some dignity about their work in there.

Hey it’s a Waffle House. It’s dirty, packed at 3 am on a Saturday, and of course the staff is a little rude. Well the staff we had weren’t rude at all. It was a very good experience for that 3 am Awful Waffle run.

I’m often disturbed by 24 hour establishments, in principle. Those machines, never catching a breath. The lights, always flickering. Sitting at the counter of this establishment, however, is like witnessing the world rotate. The earth, of course, must continue to spin without ceasing. It necessarily never stops. And yet, it must manage to acquire and generate energy, provide nourishment in a constantly shifting series of systems, and adapt to the surges and dips in the various flows of the biosphere. Somehow, this Waffle House manages to never stop spinning. and it never falters. Even at peak hour, the employees are training some nervous soul who must raise his voice above the clinking of silverware to shout orders at the varsity cooks in the intricate, precise Waffle House language. Any still, I receive only smiles and correct speedy meals. Smothered, Diced, and Peppered. It may sound cheesy, but the love and warmth can be readily felt. I once had a stranger, with whom I’d only shared a few lines of dialogue at the counter, cover my check without asking and for no reason. «Pay it forward», he said without making eye-contact. I once witnessed several waitresses pause their tasks to reminisce collectively fondly over a former employee whom a customer at the counter asked about. I many times witnessed my friend order something complicated that no longer exists on the already thorough menu. «I know it’s not on the menu now, but it used to be, and here’s what it is…» «Sure, no problem sir». At the Waffle House on Hillsborough, the world keeps spinning.

This is a typical Waffle House chain. The food is what you expect on a typical Waffle House menu. This isn’t a new location so it is a bit worn but it is still kept clean(I have seen way worse). I eat here quite often(at least once a month). It’s open 24 hours and it’s cheap. I usually go with the all star special because you get a full breakfast for around $ 8. I sometimes will just go there for their hashbrowns; it’s my favorite part. They’re currently advertising 15 meals that are $ 5. Most of the employees are very friendly no matter the time of day. They’re pretty good at recognizing people that come in regularly. Although there is an employee who will«remind you» to tip several times through out your meal and kind of hovers over you until you do. At least from my perspective, it makes me feel slightly awkward as I always plan to tip and feel like I’m being starred down to pull out some big bills or something. This has happened to me several times. Most of the time there isn’t a wait but if you go any time between say 12am-5am Thursday through Saturday you will run into a line that is out the door. This is almost a guarantee. People typically go here after a night out. This location also recently added a To go service fee so expect your typical order to cost a little more if you decide to get it to go.

Food is eh, though price is good. Five stars for service though. It makes me happy to walk into this place, it feels like the severs and cooks are having a ton of fun and want to be there, and that really rubs off on everyone in there. Been at 11 a.m. and 3 a.m. doesn’t matter, their service is really impressive. I literally walked out today with a huge smile on my face as my friend turned to me and said, «yo it is amazing how good the atmosphere is in there, they seem to really love their job!»

As much as I like Waffle House, this is not my favorite. Or even one I’d consider going to again. A couple of my friends and I went to order to-go and we were ALL overcharged. Not only that, but we ALL also had some attitude given to us for free. I haven’t tried the food yet since it’s still sitting in my bag, but at least my order was complete. One star for order completion.

A solid Waffle House. We went on a very, very busy Friday night in Durham a little after 2 am following my friend’s show at Duke Coffeehouse and despite the insanity, we were still seated almost instantly. A heavy police presence and a large staff kept the place rolling strong. Our server, who’s first night it was at this location was gracious and quickly distributed silverware and our drinks. I ordered my classic Texas Bacon Cheesesteak Melt with no onions, with country hashbrowns. It came out with no bacon but plenty of onions. The server quickly remedied it and the meal was fantastic. Some of the better WH hashbrowns I’ve had, and the sandwich was fantastically done. An exceptional job for a Friday, the night where I visit the least. Not quite the 5 star Waffle House experience I can get in some locations, but a well done affair nonetheless.

I have stopped at this Waffle House about ten times. It is midway between Md and Sc. The food is always fresh and hot. The waiters and waitresses are always friendly and responsive to the needs of our family. The building is clean and easily accessible from north or south bound 85. Try the eggs over medium with toast. And get a coffee to go after you finish your meal.

For what it is, Waffle House is a great place for breakfast, ok place for lunch/dinner. Waffles and Hashbrowns are great. You can eat a meal for $ 5, and have a huge meal for under $ 10. Service is almost always very good and friendly. Since the kitchen is right there, it does get pretty noisy.

A few of their employees, including two grill ops disrespect the customers mainly on third shift, weekends. It also happens on first shift between employees with all the yelling to each other. Grill ops complain about cooking your food. This WH has to have armed Durham City Police for security on weekends. Very unfriendly atmosphere. Would only suggest the coffee.

Best Hashbrowns Available 24⁄7 Fourth meal food trips often come to revolve around the following question: Cook Out or Waffle House? So, having eaten at Cook Out the previous night, the night before I was graduating I ended up at Waffle House. What a fitting way to spend one of my last days in Durham.(While Waffle House is a chain predominantly found in the Southern United States, I have had great experiences with the Hillsborough location.) The food itself is just about what you would expect if you were judging from the exterior. Most choices are supersaturated with grease, but that makes them all the more delicious. Waffles are obviously a specialty and are good, but certainly not as tasty as what you would get at Dame’s. I usually go with the hash browns, for which Waffle House has developed a special nomenclature for ordering your toppings: my favorite is capped(mushrooms), smothered(onions), and covered(cheese). If I’m hungry enough I’ll usually go with the triple order of hashbrowns… even with tip this usually only puts me back 4 dollars or a bit less… hard to beat that ratio of calories/dollars – this is a lot of food! Service is very kind and prompt – when things are a little slow often waiters will be more than willing to strike up a conversation. When we told our server we were graduating from college the next day he offered to get us some free drinks(although we politely declined). I once came with a very large group(around 30ish) and the servers and cooks worked as hard as they could to get everyone served as quickly as possible. I certainly haven’t found their employees or clientele to be «scary»…welcome to America buddy. The interior of the place is no fancier than the exterior, but our tables have always been clean, and for the price you pay, I would put up with way worse. I would highly recommend this location for its hashbrowns and great service… just don’t expect an experience like Elmo’s.

Here’s why I’m a fan of Waffle House. 1) Super Friendly service(saying hello to you when you come in) and quick. 2) Ridiculously cheap prices 3) Decent food. Is it the best breakfast ever? No. But that’s not what its intended to be. It’s a greasy spoon and a darned-good one at that. Got my hashbrowns smothers and covered and should have done more. Keep your expectations low. It is what it is. But for what it is, it’s exactly what I wish we had up north.

Hands down the best place to have breakfast. They know how to cook eggs over medium unlike other places in town(ehem Elmos diner…), their hash browns are delicious and of course their waffles are amazing. To top it all off its cheap and fast. Love it.

I’m always happy to see that familiar Waffle House sign when rolling in after a night’s work. This was no exception. Heater must have been broke, but the food was hot, and the service was friendly, as always.

«Greasy spoon(and walls), but great hours and yummy…» My kids LOVE going to this place for breakfast, and it’s understandable given the barstools, the jukebox(today blasting the Zombies’ «She’s not there»), and the OVERabundant butter on everything(including perhaps the walls). Waffle House offers 15 meals for $ 5(including drink), so it doesn’t break the bank by any means. The service is super-friendly always, and they make it very easy to substitute items from meals– my daughter today swapped from one set breakfast a chicken breast over bacon and hash browns over grits, making the final product not look anything like what was in the menu. The chicken breast is very good– juicy and probably cooked in butter(though without breading). Hash browns are excellent. Not sure about the scrambled eggs– they came out with loads of a Velveeta-like cheese mixed in– it seemed like a substance you’d put on a chip rather than something you’d fork up. Raisin bread also tasted great, but if you held two slices together and squeezed, the butter would drip out. Picture of this meal uploaded. This location now takes credit cards– a welcome change over a couple of years ago. Bathrooms are a little stinky, but OK to wash your hands real quick. If you want a quick and cheap breakfast, and are OK with LOTS of butter, this place is great. And in contrast to what two reviewers said, I’ve been here for breakfast over 10 times, and every employee had most of their teeth. The clientele are mostly working class, but I wouldn’t describe them as scary at all.

What can you say about the Waffle House? It is what it is, a greasy spoon diner that churns out heaping amounts of standard breakfast items. Ubiquitous throughout the Southern and Mid-Atlantic states, the Waffle House is open all day, all night. Grab a seat at the counter so you can catch all the action. The griddle area is very small and the cooks work in tandem. Rather than give the cooks order slips, waitstaff will bark out the orders… loudly. I am amazed at the cooks’ ability to keep all those orders straight. The waffles are good, slightly sweet and crisp, but they aren’t high fallutin Belgian-style waffles. No, these are the kind you got as a kid, produced by your Mom’s ancient Hamilton Beach waffle iron. Get the big breakfast with eggs, waffle, meat and hash browns. And, be sure to upgrade the hashbrowns by getting them smothered and covered. The«World’s Best Coffee» isn’t, but your cup stays filled. Not sure which is scarier(at times), the clientele or the employees. Speaking of which, service is efficient, if not exactly friendly. The comment that Tyler H. makes at the end of his review is spot-on correct. I had a waitress that, maybe, had 4 teeth in her head. Good times.

C’mon, you gotta show the Awful Waffle the love! You can always get fed here, 24÷7÷365. When do they clean the place? Well, it’s better to not ask too many questions. Three words: scattered, smothered and covered. Oh wait, i guess that was 4 words. Well, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you need to take a trip to the Waffle House. One of my memories was asking a waitress if I could get a waffle house hat, and she gave it to me. It was fun to wear around for awhile. Warning: sometimes your waitress will have more fingers than teeth. Oh yeah, the waffles are pretty good too.
