This place is great for some grilled food. The only time I eat pork chops is when I come here. Expect 20 min to a half hour for anything so calling ahead is the norm. Trust me it’s well worth the wait. Also upgrade to the oven browns instead of fries, the fries are good but the oven browns are even better.

GREAT ribs! I came here for lunch with a friend. We both had a full slab of ribs and they were great! The staff was great. There isn’t a lot to the restaurant but they do a great job on ribs. They cater as well and the rest of the menu looks great too. Look forward to coming back again some time.

Once I saw them throw the pre cooked rib tips on the grill I knew it was going to be bad. Wishing that I had went to Hog Wild in Midlothian, a further drive but a much better experience. Nothing about this place says good bbq.

I work in Chicago and I frequent a spot named Hog Wild in Midlothian a place known for their chops and I never thought I’d find a spot with juicier and more well seasoned chops than them. Well I still haven’t found that spot however, I have found a very close second in Hog Haven. They make one hell of a pork chop! Besides being huge, it’s seasoned well and grilled to perfection. That’s why you may have a longer than usual wait for your food. But to me the chop is worth the wait. And unlike Hog Wild who serves fries with their chop(I don’t care much for fries) Haven gives you the choice of fries or oven browns which I think go much better with the chop. Unfortunately I haven’t ordered anything else to judge(the Chop’s been my go to meal) but I was eating in there once when a gentleman ordered the slab of ribs and man did they look good! The only thing I can tell you to stay away from is the little apple bosco stick dessert thing they have, not good at all. However, if you want a delicious pork chop in NW Indiana, Hog Haven is your spot!

My stomach was eating itself after Carnegie Deli in NYC refused to ship me a pastrami and tongue sandwich… so I begrudgingly«plan B’d» it for my fatty meal of the week. I rolled the dice and went for the tips and half chicken combo with 4 sides. I spent 49 cents extra to opt in beans instead of fries for one of those sides and yet still felt like stabbing NYC on the subway for snubbing me. I mean… I wanted the pastrami and tongue so bad I could SMELLIT!!! That was all I could think about. …and then I opened my carryout box and instantly forgot to take a photo. Talk about a distraction! I gave the first tip to my boss and devoured 2 more before even thinking about my camera. So, half full of tips, I’m sitting there with some plasticware… looking at a nicely charred half chicken and thinking«how’s this gonna go down?» Answer? Like butter! I could have separated that bird easily with a broken spork. By this time I’m completely absorbed in how to consume this feast and have totally forgotten about NYC and the whole murder thing. Turns out the only thoughts on my mind were: 1 — I’ve found someone who makes bone-in chicken as well or perhaps better than me. and 2 — This is about to get uncomfortable for those around me. Simple fact — Hog Haven slapped me in the face today with a reminder that good things come to those who wait and that this place is a serious contender for my top 5BBQ joints in greater Chicagoland!

Started coming to this hole in the wall 3 years ago after seeing the establishment on Chicago’s Best. Family run business just over the IL state line in Dyer. Their pork chops are nirvana but way too big for me. My husband and I get the rib tips and share, then take the huge left overs home for 2 more meals. The ribs and fries are drenched in the most delish sauce. People drive from all over to enjoy this amazing down home barbecue. Mom makes yummy potato salad that is always a reminder of the kind my mom used to make. We keep coming back.

I was almost not going to order based on the negative Unilocal reviews, but I’m so glad I decided to try it anyway. First, the man on the phone sounded happy to take my order unlike many other places who make you feel like you’re bothering them. We got the pork chop(bbq) with oven browns and Hawaiian baked beans. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, the oven browns(think if tater tots and seasoned fries had a baby) were super tasty and the beans were awesome. The $ 12 price tag is beyond reasonable for the amount and quality of the food and I couldn’t be happier to support a small business with great customer service. We’ll absolutely be ordering from Hog Haven again and you should, too.

Hands down the best rib tips I’ve ever had. Meaty, tasty, tender, and reasonably priced. I’ve lived in Dyer 8 years and can’t believed I’ve never stopped in, talk about missing out. My husband had the chicken sandwich which is also tasty, I can’t wait to try something else on the menu. This place really needs to be on the food networks diners, dine in, and dives show!

Just awful. Brisket sandwich was served without any BBQ sauce & we didn’t get any on the side(had to ask for it). The brisket tasted like pot roast– it was not«brisket» by a long shot! Fries were mediocre & the Mac and cheese was literally noodles dunked in fake nacho«cheese» sauce! To top it off, the décor could use some major help. The staff is pretty nice, but that’s all I can give them.

I’ve had their pork chops at a company function in the pass and they were amazing. So I stop in for the first time today. There was no one in there besides the server/cook/cashier, Jennifer. She was very polite and helpful — Awesome service. Ask for Jennifer when you go in. I ordered a slab and tips after Jennifer let me sample the tips I had to order them. Both items were meaty, juicey, tender and flavorful. I think I just found my favorite rib joint Jennifer I told you I would right a review. I’ll be back to cater my Christmas party Thanks

We went there Saturday night, it was our first time. We ordered the pork chop dinner and the beef brisket sandwich. The food took approximately 1 hr. Seating isn’t great there and there was so many people waiting. I really felt sorry for the 1 person who was doing everything. She answered the phone, took orders, was the cashier and in between cooked all the food on the grill including the fries and oven browns in the fryer. The food was pretty good but I don’t know that it was worth the wait. The pork chop didn’t come with bbq sauce on it and we weren’t asked if we wanted any. The brisket sandwich really didn’t have much taste and it had a little bit of sauce.

This was my first visit to hog haven and like other people said to, I called ahead my order for carryout. I ordered the full slab of baby back ribs. I had high hopes for some good ribs, but sadly the ribs were mediocre at best. I’ll give them kudos for tenderness, moisture, and even the sauce was good. Unfortunately the ribs lacked flavor. There was no spicy or smokey flavor to them. Just bland and boring ribs. Now I’ve heard their specialty is the pork chop and I’m still willing to give them another try. Heck the place has been in dyer for a very long time. So I gotta hope their doing something right.

I got the tenderloin sandwich and it was extremely yummy! Very juicy and tender and seasoned just right! My hubby got the rib tips and WOW!!! We were sooo impressed with this place! And the prices were not bad at all either! — not sure what that negative reviewer was all about prior. It almost made us not try it but we were in the mood for BBQ and decided to give it a try ourselves… So glad we did!!! Staff was very helpful and friendly too!!!

Over rated! I saw the high rating on Unilocal so I thought I’d try this place again. The first time I got the ribs which were premade then thrown on the grill, no flavor nothing special. Tried it again today this time tried the pulled pork sandwich and honestly I could make a better sandwich in my crock pot. In what should be a BBQ place there is no wonderful smoke smell there is just bland food. And if this is a haven for hog? The hog got the bums rush… Flavorless meat, sweet baby rays sauce, and bad customer service… No thanks, never again.

So we went to Hog Haven today after reading the reviews here on Unilocal,We must have gone on a bad day. The food wasn’t horrible or anything but it wasn’t fantastic like everyone here said either. My hubby got the Pork Chop Sandwich everyone raved about. He says it was seasoned well, I thought so too, but it wasn’t juicy, in fact it was on the dry side. I had the rib tips, again the seasoning and sauce, excellent, but the meat was very tough. We had really hoped it was going to be awesome, cause the guy working there, was really terrific, pleasant and friendly. We loved the fact the store had letters and pictures all over it from various activities and charities. Just wish the meat had been better. Maybe on another day we will try back again. I would highly suggest as others did, to call in ahead for an order as well, the wait was quit long because they do make everything to order.

Saw this place on Chicago“s Best and liked what I saw. I just happen to be performing in a show in Munster, IN, which is right next door, so on a 2 hour lunch break the girlfriend and I headed over. What they are famous for is their GINORMOUS grilled pork chop, so, of course, that’s what we had. OH. MY. GOD!!! Seriously amazing. Takes a little while to get your food, because they are made to order and they are like 3 inches thick and bone in, but it is SOOO worth the wait! Also, the nice lady at the counter told me next time if I wanted to call it in they would have it ready for me when I got here. Anyway, back to the chop… Perfectly seasoned and charred, with a very subtle smokey undertone, and more tender and juicy than most people can imagine a pork chop to be, cuz most people dry the hell out of them. Did I mention that they are HUGE??? Do yourself a favor and get yourself over here for a chop. You WILLNOT be disappointed…

Hello FOODSNOB here, Well if you like THICK Juicy Pork Chops, this is the place for you. Sometimes a thick pork chop could be dry, but they cook it just perfect. Even when they sell it at the Shererville Festival in June it goes Great with that Beer Garden Beer. They even cater. Gonna have to try some of the other food soon.
