The concept of customer service is lost on these guys.
We came all the way out here in morning traffic only to be told they won’t accept our booking because our credit card doesn’t have a name on it where Avis, Enterprise, etc don’t have a problem with the card. Odd policy considering they were more than happy to take our card details over the phone to reserve the booking. When asked why this information was not made clear at the time of the booking, their response is that it’s our fault for not telling them the card has no name on it, as though we are supposed to know the company’s policies.
They will however rent to people with a valid drivers licence from any other country, even if it’s illegal for said person to drive in the US.
Don’t use unless desperate. And even then, maybe it’s better to walk.

My company has rented several Mercedes Sprinters (15 pass) from U-​Save & we’ve had great experiences every time. The Sprinters are all pretty much brand new, very clean and nice.
The office is small, but clean and nice. Staff very friendly.
The other reviews are from years ago, most of them apply to parking, which U-​Save doesn’t do anymore unless you’re renting a vehicle.

I parked my car there for a week while out of town. Two stars might be a bit harsh, but I’m just going with Unilocal’s definition — «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» I used The Parking Spot before so I just decided to give U-​Save a try. In general, I think the cost is slightly better. You get airport drop-​off /​pick-​up either way. I just think the «vibes» I got from The Parking Spot were better than at U-​Save. I know that sounds unfair, but that’s how I felt about it. Interpret it as you wish.

Would give them a negative rating if I could.
In short: They have a deceptive «unlimited miles» policy that does not apply outside of the tri-​state area. They gave me a car that had clearly been smoked in. And, the employees are openly hostile, eager to yell at and harass customers.
Long story: I booked them through Orbitz (on the mobile site) and it said the car could be driven an unlimited amount of miles, with no fine print or disclaimers. Then when I went to pick the car up, on a Friday evening during rush hour, they – while taking about 20 phone calls in between – told me it was only unlimited in the metro area and that it would be 35 cents per gallon over 100 miles. That’s not unlimited, obviously. I took the car because at that point, I needed to be on the road and I knew the rates at other rental places would be exorbitant at that short notice. All weekend I tried to get in touch with the manager to no avail. No one else could help me. When I dropped off the car, the employees harassed me for not being a smarter online shopper, even though we had a screen shot of the mobile rate – that clearly showed there was no asterisk or disclaimer.

The other reviews hit the nail on the head. This place is to be avoided.
This place might be affordable if you’re only driving a short distance, but they will charge a ridiculously high surcharge for additional mileage. They do their best to obscure this when you book online (and were fairly rude to me when I questioned this to pick up my car) so do yourself a favor and don’t be fooled by the perceived low rate.

The mileage is NOT unlimited– unless you stay in the tri-​state area!
I rented a car for two days to travel to Vermont. On the rental website (
) it said unlimited mileage, but when I got to U-​Save, they told me i had to may 35 cents per mile because I was traveling outside of the tri-​state area. The staff was extremely unhelpful, and said «I was told it was up on our website» and then told me that I would have to pay a 1-​day cancellation fee. I ended up having to pay an additional $ 130 for the rental and felt completely scammed! I looked back on the website, and turns out it does say on their rental policy that this exists– in tiny print, with nothing mentioned on the main rental page for the car and my reservation.

Do not use these guys. I made my reservation in the morning, then had to cancel an hour later. Wouldn’t let me. I had to pay $ 150 for a car I didnt even use. Unhelpful staff
AVOID THIS BUSINESS

I wish Unilocal had negative stars. We booked a car and a carseat for my son. When we arrived all they had was a filthy boosterseat, they could not get me a manager, and their attempt to make it right was to remove the $ 6 carseat rental. This was all after we waited an hour to be picked up. When I informed the clerk that this remedy was not good enough and I would at least be spreading the word all over the Internet he informed me that I was just one customer. Since they don’t have any social media accounts, I plan to email an owner the number of impressions I make. Please avoid this place, especially if you have kids. They don’t even HAVE car seats!

This is real experience so I really hope this is not going to be removed.
We parked our car last Friday and picked it up on Tues. The drop off was relatively painless, it was quick and smooth.
When we return it was a completely sufferer story. The pickup from airport was all fine. We paid and formula car. My husband as usual whenever he exits a parking lot inspected the car. He noticed that there were a couple of dents and also a paint transfer (white on our black car). So he went inside to talk to the the person helping him check out. She was fine and was trying to evaluate the situation as well. And then all of a sudden, this other older guy came out of the office and started yelling at my husband, using the words incriminating, lies, we have pictures etc etc. He went on for a good few minutes.
And no other employees came to see what’s going on. We had to come back in and explain the situation (of course we were both very heated). That guy just went into a car and he gave me a finger after I asked for his name!!!
OMG!!! it was the most disgusting experience I had.
And worst of all, for our dents and paint transfer situation, all they can say is that they will have to send the video out to be evaluated before they can reimburse us for anything. And we didnt even see any cameras outside! We called consumer affairs and really hope that they will shut down this place.

Have to agree with the other posters — avoid this place at all costs. I reserved a car through Orbitz at a great rate. I was going to be late picking up the car so I called the rental car office 1 hour 15 minutes after the scheduled pick-​up time. They told me that their policy requires the car to be picked up w/​in 1 hour of the reservation time. As a result, they cancelled my reservation and wouldn’t rent another car to me. I ended up having to pay twice as much to find a rental car elsewhere.
I called Orbitz and three of their employees have read U-Save’s policy (as did I) and no one found any language stating that cars must be picked up w/​in 1 hour of the stated reservation time. In fact, Orbitz told me their vendors are required to hold the reservation for 24 hours!

I rent from these guys 2 – 3 times a month… definitely good prices and easy pick up and drop off of the car. Make sure you fill up before you bring it back. Friendly counter staff.

As this business is close to La Guardia airport, I have been using it every week for parking my car for 6 months. The parking has always been fairly priced and the service was great. Except for last week, and I will never return there again.
I landed at La Guardia airport at 10:30 pm on a Thursday. I promptly called USave so they could pick me up, which typically takes about 10 minutes. I was told that the van would be there for me in 7 – 10 minutes. Flash forward to 20 minutes later, I called again to remind them I was waiting, and they said «OK» and hung up. Flash foward another 20 minutes, and I called again only to be told «We’re very sorry– the van will be there in 2 – 3 minutes». Around 10 minutes later (count it, 50 minutes after I landed), I saw the van driving on the other side of the street with no intention of stopping– I sprinted across the street, made it stop, and got in. The driver apologized, but I was clearly frustrated at this point. He drove me to the parking lot without further incident.
When we got to the parking lot I was the first to get out of the van and the first in line to pay (there were a couple of other people in the van with me). This is where the real story begins– I tell the cashier (still nicely at this point) that I waited over 40 minutes to be picked up. His response? «Have you seen the traffic at La Guardia?» I responded that yes, I had, and the least they could have done is to tell me that it would take longer than usual so that I could at least sit inside and grab a bite to eat instead of having to wait outside in the cold and being told that the van is «5 minutes away». At this point, the man behind the counter physically threatened me and said «oh yeah, and what are you gonna do about it?» I calmly said that I wouldn’t be returning to this place as a customer at this point. His response? «Well, then I would apologize, but since you aren’t going to come back here anymore it doesn’t matter, does it?»
I was in a total state of shock. At this point, I tell him I want to pay and just leave. With a big smile, he says «You haven’t waited long enough, and now there’s a problem with your card» (I hadn’t even handed him my credit card yet), at which point he calls the people behind me on line to pay. He let EVERYONE pay before me, while I was standing there yelling at him and being humiliated. I even asked for the manager, and yet again, with a big smile, he tells me that HE is the manager. I start to take down the company’s information so I can call the department of consumer affairs, and he says «You can tell them my name is Daniel. But I won’t give you my last name because you look like a stalker.»
I finally managed to pay and leave. I will never return to them again, and Daniel is lucky that I did not call the police because I felt physically threatened and he refused to return my car. If this is how a loyal customer is treated, I cannot recommend this place to anyone, and I would steer clear of Daniel.
By the way, I tried contacting the owners more than once and have still not received a response. This is a terrible company with terrible service, and I wish I could give it 0 stars.

They totally scammed me. I reserved a car for a camping trip online, and I was bringing two small dogs with me. Nowhere on their website or in the agreement did it mention any sort of pet policy (I’ve checked again since and there is still nothing). When I arrived at the location to pick up my car, I noticed a sign that said «No smoking, no pets, 500 fine». I complained to the cashier that I had no way of knowing beforehand about any sort of pet policy (she even looked on their website and also could not find any information), yet they still charged me a 1 day rental fee for not cancelling my reservation 48 hours before. I went over to National where the people were extremely friendly and courteous, and told me pets were no problem.
Avoid this place! They are very, very shady, and the employees were completely unhelpful.
