This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Lansing. Everything I’ve ever had here is so good. And the owner is so nice & personable. So glad we discovered this gem! And as for these ridiculous reviews, not a theme restaurant, doesn’t have nachos? Wtf seriously? No where is there any suggestion it’s a theme restaurant. And If you want nachos, go to a Mexican joint. Don’t go to a sandwich shop & complain about their menu having sandwiches. I swear, I’m only 30, & I’m ashamed of how ignorant kids are today. I searched online for French dips in the area, found this place, & was more than satisfied. And their white cheddar mac & cheese is some of the best I’ve ever had. This place is so good!

Filthy, soup cold muffin old and crumbled in my hand. Waitress comment, «sorry» no offer for anything else. Terrible stop for quick dinner. Won’t be back.

Note to Hobies… if you’re going to sell clam chowder, put some clams in it! So disappointing these days. It’s as though no one cares anymore.

Come in from the cold and warm up with one of Hobie’s delicious soups! The food is always fresh and the staff is very welcoming. I love that this place is still family owned(the new owner is awesome) and conveniently located by MSU. Also, try the muffins — you’ll thank me later!

It’s been awhile since I’ve dined here, three impressions… 1. prices have been raised substantially, 2. flies abound in the restaurant, 3. clam chowder is the best in town. Hopefully, the flies are a temporary situation due to the changing weather in MI. I won’t be back until winter for my next bowl of soup.

A true East Lansing secret. Great sandwiches with ingredients that are always fresh. The A.J. Club is by far my favorite(ask for light mayo, they like to lather it on), but also anything with the Hobie’s sauce is pretty good. Great Mac n’ Cheese and soups as well. The small, but effective selection of beers on tap doesn’t hurt. A couple of TV’s, but not really a place I’d go to watch a game.

Really good sandwiches, nice and quiet atmosphere, and it’s been around forever. Really good undiscovered restaurant in the E.L.

Hobies has really gone downhill. Many years ago I was introduced to Hobies because of their amazing soups(which at the time were really amazing). This year I have gone there on three separate occasions and been disappointed every time by their soup. Their clam chowder, which they were well known for, is terrible with rubbery clams and poorly seasoned broth. The chicken noodle soup, a favorite of mine, has been terrible with little flavor and over-cooked noodles(I realize it is soup, but these literally fell apart). The potato bacon soup, the potatoes weren’t cooked and the broth had no flavor. The sandwiches are still the same and I do like the chicken salad sandwich, but this isn’t enough to keep me coming back, if I only wanted a sandwich I would make it at home with all my favorite ingredients and a spectacular bread.

Really gross. The restaurant has a BAD smell to it — like mold and elderly people. The seats were nasty, the person who took the order acted like they were a mute, and my sandwich was seriously disgusting. It was slimey and greasy and fatty. This all may seem a bit over the top, but I am not exaggerating. I would not recommend this place, and I would not eat here again.

When we got there the girl who took our order looked pissed that we had come in to eat. i said«hi» and she just stared at me… we ordered, said thank you and she just looked at us again and turned around to give our order to the cook. If i wasnt so hungry i probably wouldve left. the guy who rang us up was either a owner or manager but he was very pleasant! Made up for the girl at the counter being so rude a little bit. he also came to check on us about halfway through our meal which was nice. The food was good, prices are great and they have a flavored coffee option(hazelnut) which i tried and enjoyed. They also have flat-screen tv’s set-up around the restaurant. They had a good lunch menu too so i’ll be back to try that. I would’ve given them 4-stars but tempestuous workers are something i cant stand. If you cant say hello to customers then yeah…

Hobie’s is a great spot hidden in the Trowbridge Plaza next to Goodrich’s. Skip Subway and go here. Excellent sandwiches, soups, wraps, even the breakfast is good. They have beer on tap w/happy hour specials. They also have $ 3 heinekin bottles… They have free wireless. I’ve done everything here from doing homework to watching a bluegrass band. Definitely check it out.

The kid on Baywatch was named Hobie. So naturally I assumed I was going to a theme restaurant where the employees were dressed up like Baywatch people. Boy was I wrong! Think surly college students, Busch Lite on tap, and a cafeteria style setup that’ll send you back to the days of Olé’ Lunchlady Helga slopping spoonfuls of instant mashed potatoes on your styrofoam tray. They’re known for their soups, and when I say«known» I mean 20 years ago people said Hobie’s had pretty good soup. Sadly, it now tastes like the soup has been sitting around for all of those 20 years. So total disappointment! No Baywatch theme, and bad soups. Pass!

If you didn’t know it was there, Hobie’s would be hard to find. It’s right next to Goodrich’s grocery store, in Trowbridge. The Sandwiches are decent, and the prices aren’t bad, but you really come here for the soup. On my first visit, the guy in front of me remarked«You know, you guys still have the best soup in town.» Glad he said that, because it made me order a few cups. The Clam Chowder is good, but the Broccoli Cheddar is just awesome. Nice and thick, with lots of good sized broccoli pieces. Hobie’s used to have a few restaurants in the area, but it’s down to this one last location, far as I can see. It beats Jimmy John’s, for the fact that you can get a beer here with your meal.
