To see so much praise heaped upon Tom’s selection makes me weep with sorrow for the residents of East Lansing. Not local to the area, I came here at the suggestion of a fellow patron at Ellison, who told me that they offered the best selection of single malt scotch in town. Having visited, I sincerely hope that by best he meant«high quality» rather than largest, because the offerings were rather limited in number. They had slightly more craft beer, though certainly their selection was smaller than you’d find somewhere like Horrock’s. That said, what Tom’s does serve credit for is their pricing. The craft beer all seemed to be on the low side of normal based on what I see in Grand Rapids. And the clerk mentioned that for hard alcohol, they attempt to keep prices«around the state minimum.» I only took note of the prices on a couple of bottles — the Balvinie 14 Caribbean Cask(my most recent prior purchase), and the Glenmorangie Milsean(what I purchased this time) — and both were priced at exactly the state minimum($ 74.99 and $ 99.99 respectively, not inclusive of taxes). Michigan, as it happens, has higher minimum prices than many other states, so if you reside in another state these prices may not be notable. But set at the state’s legal minimum, you cannot do any better here.

Tom’s Party Store has a great selection, in fact the best selection in Lansing. Yes, the BEST selection in Lansing. I was looking for a Grand Rapid micro-brew ale and couldn’t find it anywhere else in Lansing, but found it here! Tom, Bringing the world’s spirits to Lansing.

Personally, this is my favorite liquor store in the area. Sometimes I’ll drive straight across town rather than risk going somewhere else. Tom’s isn’t quite as expensive as similar places. They have a great wine and champagne selection as well as whisky selection. The beer selection is less diverse than other quality liquor stores but they still manage to have good options on hand. If they had more beer I’d give them a flat 5⁄5 I’d say as a liquor store Tom’s edges out it’s nearby competition«Dusty’s Cellar» and draws even with«Vine & Brew». Thus why this is where I do my booze buying.

best liquor store in the lansing area. WAY better than big ten. they have buffalo trace bourbon cream which is impossible to find anywhere else in the area, huge jugs of mcclure’s bloody mary mix for $ 9.99, and they sell bitter lemon soda which i have only otherwise found(for way more money) at horrock’s.

Super friendly and generally knowledgable staff and shockingly amazing hours(open early). While their selection of alcoholic bevvies is quite large, I usually enjoy Tom’s as an easy stop for a quick pop or bottled water because of their easy access off GR Ave. For some reason I have the hardest time finding Fox Barrel ciders and they carry a few flavors here which takes Tom’s to the top.

This was our second time using Tom’s to get a keg for an MSU game. The first time went smoothly but this most recent time, not so much. We preordered the keg several days in advance and didn’t have great service on the phone. The employee took our name and what we wanted. He was very short and didn’t ask any other questions or even give us a price. We went to pick it up Saturday morning only to find out they were out of taps. So why allow people to order kegs if you’re out? Or at least have taken down more of our information to call and give us a heads up before we drove 20 minutes out of our way to pick it up. We asked where to get one and the guy at the counter replied«that’s a really good question.» So we frantically called around and were lucky enough to get one from another party store(that did have taps!) while we were calling around, there were 3 different customers ordering 3 different types of liquor that they were completely out of. I understand you’re busy on game days, but how do you completely run out of Fireball Whiskey and taps? Their customer service was sub par in how they handled not only our situation, but the other displeased customers as well. We probably won’t be using Tom’s again for any party needs. They are out of our way and the level of service we received was extremely disappointing.

Love this place! Big selection of beer and wine, and the guys are always more than willing to make suggestions or help you find something new. Once I asked about a specific liquor I’ve never been able to find in the US, they had never heard of it but were curious and pulled out some encyclopedia for alcoholics type book to learn more about it. If they don’t have a particular wine, they’re not afraid to recommend another shop in town to try. Never had a bad experience here.

This is just a great place. Helpful friendly staff is the first little 5 star part of the review. These guys know what they’re talking about in the ol’ wine department. You’ll never get a bad bottle with some help from Tom’s crew. When I was in the other day looking for something, they didn’t have it and they actually offered to call another store to look for it. Who does that??? Class-y. Check these guys out for all your liquer needs!
