Opulent, luxurious, plush, frou-frou it ain’t. Soulful, funky, unique, one-of-a-kind it most certainly is. Urbanscrap studios is the baby of Amber DeBirk, an extremely talented and passionate artist who opened the studio in late 2010 partly as her own glass artwork studio. Moving beyond her own works, it’s home to art, jewelry, home décor, and all sorts of other fun and unique items that focus on sustainability, environmental responsibility, recycled items, and other smart items that all happen to be quite useful. Salvaged wood cheese boards? You betcha. Stem vases made from old wine bottles? Yup. It’s all there. There’s also a workshop space attached where you and your friends can get together for a night of your own glass art making. Sip some wine and enjoy a unique evening. The space is part of Millcreek Art Space at Flynn Artipelago, a collection of over 20 artist and studio spaces that occupy an old radio factory. Urbanscrap is one of the only spaces that is regularly open with a retail setting, and it’s definitely worth a visit, especially for the buy local minded crowd.
