Pic-Nic Bar & Restaurant

Easy place to get to, especially when not in the mood to drive over to traffic prone Ironbound Newark. If there’s no room in the lot, there’s parking on the street or if you can handle it… go a pinch further down the block and they have a (small) private lot on the left. Like places in Ironbound… this is a neighborhood type of place… lots of regulars… feels homey in the bar area.
You can get just whatever you want via Portuguese style food, whether it’s the short ribs, shrimp in garlic sauce, steak and eggs, etc. It’s all good!
Take out BBQ next door.

Do not eat here… The food isn’t any good. Ordered some pork. It was drenched in a nasty sauce. It tasted just like the place smelled which wasn’t to good… Awful.

Honestly I came here because of the Unilocal reviews. However, for me this wasn’t what I expected. The restaurant is clean and welcoming, yes, but that’s how far it went. Ordered filet mignon and it was dry. Ordered the seafood Parillada (forgot exact name) the rice was extremely oily. Again not what I expected, wasn’t for me or my family.

Very busy place. Good bread but service needs improvement. Word of advice take the bus to this place because parking is very limited in the area! Food in the place is very salty and dry! The cook should really take a cooking class because it is a total disgrace!

Reserved 15 seats for a group of co workers to get together. Overall absolutely amazing! Great service and great food. Packed food tasted great the next day!!! I will be returning!

Great take out! Super tasty and delicious! The food is awesome and the are fast and really efficient. We order from here twice a week and we love it. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Ask for chef Miguel. He is always so nice and polite. Love this place.

I am writing this review as I sit in the restaurant for 1 hour and a half and still have not eaten. I have watched people that came after me leave. I am in a party of 20. Ok, I will take that into consideration, but really. It takes 1 ½ hours to make 20 plates of course not! This is the worst service that I have had in a long time! We did have a few appetizers and they were just ok, the shrimp was over cooked and the calamari was rubbery. I will never go back to Pic-​nic again.

We have been coming here for several years. Never have we had a bad time or bad meal. The portions are huge and well prepared. We love the skirt steak, chicken cordon blue, fresh fish and the bread is the freshest ever! Sangria is amazing. Sit in the bar area and you will feel like you are in old world Portugal. LOVE this place!

This restaurant reminds me of my childhood. It is the first place I discovered my love for Portuguese food. I am very simple. I love the yellow rice, chicken, fries and Portuguese rolls. When I visit my family, Picnic is my main request. They are yet to disappoint. I wish I could find a restaurant in my neighborhood like this so I can show my Brooklyn friends what they are missing out on.

This establishment is a cluster fuck. The worst got damm service, arrogant order takers, extremely condescending, and it seems as if they only want to serve Brazilians or people who they know. I also noticed as a black patron, when the Brazilians walk in they only wish to speak their language. It’s annoying vs. when a Black or a Spanish guy walks in and they act as if they don’t understand English and you’re pushed aside. I made attempts to reach them on the holidays to place an order and the person who picked up acted as if I was speaking a foreign language. So they can kiss my ass I will never buy food from this establishment. I will definitely let everyone of my New York Giants teammates and alumni know what’s up at this establishment.

My absolute favorite place to eat! Lunch or dinner the food is excellent! Of course the red sangria is delicious but what’s exceptionally nice is the wait staff! Carlos is the best host/​mayor de and server! It’s because of his wonderful service and attention that I continue to dine here! Love love love them!!!
Favorite dishes have to be the garlic chicken starters are the chorizo which the bring out on a fire AMAZING, the clam casino! Aye! And the stuffed scallops! You can’t go wrong eating here! They also have a side hall for parties!

I came here with a huge group of 20 — they were easily accommodating of everything!
Service is slightly slow, but they are all extremely sweet and nice. Very good with trying to recommend something for you and always works to make sure you enjoy your time.
The food is ok though — nothing fantastic. I was a bit disappointed by the paella (I LOVE paella) but it was ok. Good selection of wines available. They do have limited options for seafood though (hard especially if you are solely vegetarian.)

Been there twice and regretted it both times. The first time the lobster in the paella was spoiled, rotten and it tasted like gross. This last time the sangria was water down, flat and didn’t really have any fruit. Both times the bill was through the roof cause the food and drinks are expensive. The thing is the area is full of really good Spanish /​Portuguese restaurants, so I really don’t see a reason to go there ever again.

Authentic Portuguese cuisine. Nice local place to have a good dinner. Portions are big! I had the filet mignon cooked perfectly medium rare and it was excellent. The oysters were fresh. Good desserts. They also have a take out spot next to the restaurant. Picadiño with shrimp is very good as well.

Since I was a little boy, my parents would take us into the Ironbound section of Newark to dine at some of the best restaurants my little mind could remember.
Flavors unlike anything I had ever tasted before. My mouth actually starts to water as I remember the juicy cuts of meat, giant rice dishes in iron pots, rich garlic sauces, crispy sausage, and the hand cut potato chips that never seemed to end.
Pin-​Nic Bar & Restaurant brings all these memories back with each bite.
The churrasco skirt steak was seasoned to perfection and fork tender. The large portion was enough for my family of 7 to all get a nice piece. High recommend!
The paella rice is so tasty I couldn’t stop helping myself, but the real highlight of the meal were the clams Portuguese style. A basket of bread and a heaping pot of the clams cooked in a rich garlic red sauce will have you planning your next visit. Not to mention the cuts of chorizo that are hidden deep inside the sauce. After the first order, we decided to double dip and get a second.
The sangria here was also very excellent. Red and White both tasty.
Red was less sweet, if you have a preference.

I had the picnic style steak. Too big for me. The only thing bothered me was all the noise the kids were making.
About the food, well I’m giving 5 stars so you guess.

Excellent Portugesse food in East Newark! Vinegar on the tables, whole peeled potato with the fish. What more can you ask for? Great ambiance, great staff, have and will continue to return.

I’ve been coming here for mannnyy years and every single time I come here, it’s nothing less than AMAZING. The service, the food, the drinks, the sangria, the environment, everything! They also have a take out section (Chicken & ribs) that you must try!
