Love this place! Delicious breakfast & love the rustic setting.

Went to the restaurant this morning at 11:00am. I called ahead and asked if they take reservations and the woman said no. When we arrived the gentleman took my name and my party of 5, 2 adults and 3 young children. He said next time, call to make reservations?!? He said a 20 minute wait — we waited 30 minutes. No big deal. We were sat at the table and drink orders were taken promptly and received. We gave our order(3 meals and 1 muffin) No refill for coffee No refill for juice No water offered Actually our waitress would disappear and we often had to make a request through another waitress. An hour and a half later our meal arrives(after questioning twice and being told it’s just a few minutes more) My potatoes were burned– a few were not and those were good, but most were inedible. My breakfast burrito was good… The chocolate chip pancakes for the kids were burned– the chocolate had an awful taste! My husband said his poached eggs were good– but certainly nothing to rave about and nothing worth the 2 hour total wait! I was Shocked that no one ever came over to see if everything was okay– nothing was offered off the bill– no apologies were made! At that point we were visibly annoyed and nothing! We went in a recommendation and we are not difficult people to please– but this was awful and we will never return!

Interesting menu. I enjoy the limited options. It usually indicated better quality food then places that have a hundred things on their menu. Cozy atmosphere and better coffee then most places(local and organic!!!). The only downside is the service isn’t too great. We were seated right away but waited about 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us.

The breakfast here is absolutely delicious. I have been going here since I was 7 years old and the food has remained consistent and never disappoints. Corned beef hash = amazing. Hash browns = incredible. Service is great and friendly. Super attentive. I have never heard anyone give this place a bad review until I visited this page. I really would not give those reviews much credence. Go. You will not be disappointed.

Never again. I’ve eaten here twice. The food is mediocre and the service is worse. I was there this morning for 30 minutes, sat by the kitchen and was brought coffee and water. 30 minutes later, nobody took my order, nobody asked if I needed something, wanted to order or was I waiting for somebody. Nobody stopped to fill my coffee cup. The manager, the bus boy and two waitresses walked by, bumped my chair and totally, completely ignored me. The last time I was here several months ago, the wait staff which is the same wait staff today, gave poor service but I least we got it. If you have a choice — go elsewhere. Maxwell House coffee and it cost $ 2.25; an omelet costs $ 12.95 — at those prices and profit margins, they should be all over the customer with graciousness and thankfulness.

My girlfriend and I have been coming to the blue bird for breakfast and brunch for a while now and it’s continuously great! It’s has that old style bed and breakfast feel to it that makes you feel cozy and comfortable. I highly recommend the«Rockin’ Robin» for breakfast, it’s fantastic!

I am with a few of the reviewers here about hating to give bad reviews, and always hoping that we can find something nice around the area. In this case, I wish there is a Zero star system! My husband has been to this place in the past and thought I would like to give it a try. I would begin by saying that you will be better served if you are a local customer, recognized by the owner/manager and servers, if you are new to the area or just driving by… keep driving and find a diner! I think you will have a better experience! And, if you have a nut allergy like my husband does, or if you have children who have that issue I wouldn’t even think about this place! They are not accommodating at all, actually once we asked, the waitress treated us like we had a disease! Service was extremely poor, again unless you are local and they know you or if you happen to be from a member of the well known Hollywood family! Then you get served with a special menu, that we were told is not offered since the kitchen can only serve what was on the«limited menu». That was not all, after trying to explain what was and wasn’t cooked on a grill that had nut contamination, we had to wait over 25 mins for our food to arrive, top it all off nobody ever came up to offer coffee or tea refills, and the hot tea was lukewarm, and NEVER even offered water to our table! Strike three, the food arrived and nothing had any flavor, the French toast tasted like rubber with zero flavor even with added syrup. For a price tag of over $ 13 for the French toast I would say, you can do better for sure at another diner on the highway!

A favorite brunch spot. Breads are a special addition and they’ll make anything for you — just use the menu as a starting off place. Oatmeal was too sweet. But eggs and pancakes are very good. Nice atmosphere though staff can be a little slow at times. Better brunches in the area.

This is a good local breakfast place. It has a nice warm rustic feel to it. The staff are all very friendly and the food is very good. The only downside that I have with this is that I wish the menu had more standard choices. There are a lot of cool specials each day, but the usuals on the menu are very limited. Definitely visit it if you’re in the area!

My husband and I went to this restaurant at 9 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The place was crowded so we took that as a good sign, but we were very wrong. The menu was limited, but I don’t mind that if the food is good. It was not. Not only did we wait 35 minutes for one order of pancakes and one order of scrambled eggs with corn beef hash, the pancakes had no flavor and were like putting a cup of flour in your mouth. The eggs had no taste even though they supposedly had cheese and scallions, the hash was dry and old, and the biscuit was cold. We watched the large party next to us get served a few plates at a time. The waitress was distracted and the owner never questioned why we left full plates of food behind when we left. It’s such a cool nostalgic building it really is a shame. It would have been nice to see the owner actually do something.

I am a known pancake addict and had a mixed experience here. The pancakes were good-to-excellent(blueberry) but the sausage was either«off» or included ingredients that tasted plasticy. I was going to ask about the sausage but decided not to. The ambiance is quite nice but I found the tables too close to each other(I was treated to a 30 minute«class» on investing by a pontificator at the next table talking to his tablemate) for my comfort. I also counted 4 flies on my table alone, which seemed excessive. I’ll keep hunting for the best pancakes. So far scratched off this place and Chips.

I hate to leave this poor review. For nostalgic purposes, I so wanted to love this place. It wasn’t the case. First, breakfast menu is very limited. Place wasn’t very busy for a weekend morning. Despite that, the service was lackluster. Nice enough waiter but iffy service. The real letdown was the food. The whole meal was overcooked. Muffin, home fries and bacon were all burned. Really not edible. Waiter came by, noticed and didn’t say anything. A bit pricy for the poor quality of food & service. I would skip it. Again, so wanted to fall in love with this place.

What’s to like: the bacon, super thin, well grilled with a low amount of fat. The eggs Benedict, and the paprika on the home fries. The veggies on the side, juicy, flavorful, would almost kids to enjoy greens! What could be better: the potatoes slightly undercooked. The service was really attentive and looking forward to pleasing us. Overall, an enjoyable time in a different restaurant, far from downtown and located in lovely environment. I ll come back, probably during a bike tour next time.

This is one of my favorite places for brunch. It has a rustic and cozy atmosphere. Yes, as some reviewers have lamented, the bathrooms are small and it is a bit tight at times. However, for a place that opened almost 100 years ago, I think it is pretty awesome. I love their muffins and pancakes. The breakfast specials never disappoint either. Take a stroll at the Aspetuck land trust afterward.

I had heard so much about this place and was very excited about going, but my experience was not a stellar one. The interior was swarming with flies that landed everywhere, the prices were high for the quality of food/atmosphere, we sat for a long time before being waited on and waited for a long time for our food(one very overwhelmed waitress) and when going to use the restroom I noticed that the kitchen was very exposed and the chef(who had long hair) didn’t wear a hairnet and I witnessed her touching food… not the cleanest of places. I’d pass if I were you…

One of my favorite breakfast/brunch places, this really out-of-the-way restaurant is worth the effort. The breakfast specials have never disappointed, the omelettes and Benedict egg dishes are excellent, and the pancakes are as good as you’ll find anywhere. On top of that, their homemade muffins are spectacular… the orange cornbread is what they’re known for, but the traditional blueberry muffin here is a treat! The homefries, usually a disappointment at breakfast, are so good that almost asked for seconds. The bacon is good, the sausage average. The chef ought to upgrade both breakfast meats to match the rest of the food. With friendly service, a laid back atmosphere, and surprisingly large portions, The Bluebird serves the best breakfasts in Fairfield County. FYI…There is no ATT cell service there, which, come to think of it, is neither a negative nor surprising!

Apparently this wonderful little hidden gem was recently purchased by a new family. The changes are evident the moment you are greeted at the door. This spot is known for its quaint country inn style, Geraniums climbing the windows, and great muffins. Locally roasted organic smooth coffee served in big mugs and our server kept it coming! We had: eggs Benedict & extra tender Canadian bacon w a side of sautéed fresh spinach & extra Hollandaise(which was ok a bit sweet and made w chicken broth which isn’t traditional but it was good). A country style French folded omelet w fresh mushroom, tomatoes, onions, cheddar & Monterey jack cheese & side of house made red potato home fries. Everything was delish & fresh. The service was attentive & pleasant but not overly done. The staff was busy but not hurried. The owner was hands-on, friendly, and paid attention to details & his customers. It was quite busy on a rainy Sunday morning but not loud. The table settings were rotated quickly, fresh flowers, real maple syrup, cozy interior. Private lot. Micro small restrooms. There is a takeout/small coffee bar to the right of the dining room too. So pleased to have the Bluebird back to its initial glory… probably even better!
