Delicious homemade donuts… love this place. My favorite are the old fashioned sour cream donuts; hubby likes the raised sugar ones.

My husband and I are Phoenicians visiting relatives this weekend. We have not been fans of Dunkin Donuts for several years since they changed the recipe. We were in the mood for donuts. We were told that Sugar N Spice Donuts were very good. The donuts did not disappoint. The chocolate glazed donut was airy and tender with just a bit of crispy exterior. My husband loved the raspberry filled donuts. This donut shop is a must visit!

Tough to say what I think about Sugar N Spice. Its got that old diner feel to it, the prices are great as well as the selection and the people working are nice. I didn’t get around to trying them till that night so maybe that is partially my fault. Even so out of the 6 I got most were stale and some were great. Just the ones I was most excited about sucked, the apple fritter way too dense and hard as was the strawberry rose(basically a strawberry fritter) and the chocolate custard was good but stale and not enough custard. What did taste great were the blueberry and the chocolate sour cream, the chocolate peanut, again stale. They have great potential and I’m sure if you get and eat them in the mornig they are great, otherwise not worth it.

I’m not too big on sweets. I like a good cup of coffee so I’ll go to Starbucks, Tim Horton’s or Dunkin’ Donuts. I think I’ve had donuts from this place like 10 or 15 years ago, anyways it’s old school so I didn’t expect the coffee to be as good as Dunkin’ so I’ve passed it by all these years. If I’m going to eat a donut and risk diabetes and messed up teeth I want it to be worthwhile. Dunkin’ Donuts are not made the way they used to be. I have it from my buddy from Boston where DD began that they definitely are not made like they were 30 years ago. The donuts from Sugar & Spice definitely taste old school unhealthy like when I was a kid in the 70’s. Apple Fritter baby! The donuts rock and the prices are cheaper than the other places I mentioned. The coffee is a good pair to the donuts. I may need to get on the elliptical and brush my teeth more often so I can do more of these donuts. 4.25 stars
