This store has been a fixture here on the corner of Main and N. Water St. for as long as I can remember. The name is a bit of a misnomer as it sells so many things in addition to newspapers, magazines and other paper goods. It was here way before we got the news on line, so all of the old Edgartown folks picked up their NYT here every morning.(God forbid the papers were late… Serious anxiety ensued for those vacationing New York dads, my own included.) You’ll still see a regular group of NYT and WSJ readers on the bench outside, analyzing the news and taking in the scene. Everything you forgot at home but really require on your vacation can be found here, including film, batteries, beach toys, candy, sun tan cream, snacks, Nyquil, sun glasses and reading material. Remember, you’ll be looking at island prices. The Edgartown Paper Store closes up shop during the long, cold winter, contributing to the desolation of downtown Edgartown. Clearly, the summer months are the lucrative ones for places like this. It’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll come in here for something if you are staying in Edgartown. I’ll see you there.

When you say paper store, I imagined greeting cards, stationary, etc. I didn’t realize that it was essentially a general store. Considering its the only one of its kind in Edgartown, the Edgartown Paper Store does a good job of having just about anything you need. For the small space, they’ve packed it full with everything you could find at a convenience store plus there’s a whole wall of beach stuff! Four stars because they don’t have any competition, but they run their business as if they do.
