My friend and I biked here from the ferry, and were pleased to find a sandwich shop with such good prices. They were doing a brisk business, so we figured it must be good! I ordered the chicken salad salad, which had a lot of lettuce and veggies, and a generous portion of a very good chicken salad. I was pleased! My friend ordered the cuban, and after a mix up with the kitchen losing his ticket {we think}, his sandwich was lackluster. Much like the service.

Thinking we’d get a quick bite after an hour long bicycle ride from Vineyard Haven, my friend and I stopped here. Her green salad with chicken salad on top was apparently very good. My Cuban wasn’t so great. The bread was oversized but didn’t have enough of anything on the inside, other than mayo. Overall, the effect was very bland and bready. Additionally, for $ 8, I got too much of a bland sandwich and no chips. How about serve half that sandwich with some lays out of a jumbo sized bag? It seems like a popular place from all the people going in and out, so perhaps it’s better than my experience. I probably won’t try again, though.

Hooray for Humphreys! Hooray for their Gobbler! Hooray for their Tree Hugger, too. If you’re hungry and have a hankering for a sandwich, Humpreys is the perfect place to go. They bread — gigantic and delicious — is the stuff of my dreams, and their flavor combos are out of sight. Everything is made in-house and fresh to order, so you can’t go wrong, guys. It’s a teensy little shop off the back of a building, so do yourself a favor and get ing, place your order, and wait outside with the rest of us. They’ll call your name when it’s ready and you can be on your way to the beach, scrumptious sammies in hand. Just a note: If you don’t have a huge appetite, these are the perfect sandwiches for sharing. However, if you’re like me and can house a giant sandwich on 5 minutes, go for it.

Not the one in Vinyard Haven but we gave it a try for lunch. It is just a small place for ordering to go. In earnest I do not know why the sandwich is made so huge and the bread slice is like an inch thick. But it is great and fresh breads just add so much more. If you are not a big eater then just have it for both lunch and dinner.

When I’m in Edgartown, craving carbs and calories, I often end up at Humphrey’s for one of their solid gold sandwiches.(I used to devour their sugary sweets, which are all delicious, when I was younger and skinnier, but those old days are long gone as I try to manage a healthier diet.) Located on a side street just off of North Water Street and Main Street, this is not really an eat-in place, although there are a few seats on the deck out front. It’s best to take your sandwich to go, bring it to a comfortable place with a water view, and dive in. You will need several napkins and a large appetite. These are the real Whoppers. The oatmeal bread happens to be our favorite, as it is rich, earthy brown, and just a tiny bit on the sweet side. They have many sandwiches, which can be customized, including a veggie selection, which is delicious. Before adopting a meat free diet, I enjoyed their Thanksgiving sandwich with thick slabs of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. The stuffing is bland compared to the one I serve up every year in November, and you will feel totally stuffed after all of that bready goodness, but there you go… You are on vacation so who cares about calories and overeating? Only open in the summer, the staff is a temporary bunch who do not engage in a personal way, but this is fast food and not a high end joint. The prices are fair for the island, in my opinion. Everything costs more here. That’s just the way it is. Get a bank loan or a raise before you come to the island on vacation. Want to get stuffed? Go to Humphrey’s.

Humphrey’s has always been a pre-beach staple for sandwiches on the way to Cape Pogue, Norton Point or Long Point beaches for me, however, I think their execution has grown a bit tired and the sandwiches have begun to feel thinner and thinner. I’ll probably still go there out of habit, or until I find a superior sandwich.

I’ve been to Humphrey’s twice and have enjoyed it both times. It is a little busy/crowded but I’ve never had to wait too long for my food. The bread is a little on the thick side, but it is really good, homemade bread so that doesn’t really bother me too much. The turkey they use is fantastic, nice thick carved. They have a new«Californian» sandwich with avocado on it that was extremely yummy. I had to use all my willpower not to order one of these delicious looking cupcakes they had at the counter, but some boy near me ordered one to hold him over until his sandwich came and said it was amazing.

Love it! It’s our go-to place when we’re on the way to the beach. Call in your order if you’re going there around lunch time. If you don’t have a huge appetite, split a sandwich with a friend. The chicken salad sandwich is delicious but it gigantic! Good cookies. Counter help is ok but you’re just picking up a sandwich so that should affect the overall experience of a tasty lunch.

The best & biggest sandwiches around! Try the Cuban or the Gobler – the sandwiches are so big you just may have to share one. Because Humphrey’s is so popular, it does get very crowded during the summer months and it’s a tiny store – it’s best to call ahead your order.

Skinny’s Fat Sandwiches trumps Humphreys. Does the bread really need to be 2″ thick? Come on. Even when you ask for it thin, the don’t slice it thin. Service is lackluster too, then again it’s seasonal help.

This quaint(but isn’t everything in Edgartown?) sandwich shop is packed solid in the Summertime. I would say call ahead, but I dare you to try to elbow your way in front of all of the quilted jacket wearing ladies eagerly anticipating their turkey on rye. The staff appeared to be particularly harried during my visit, so leave your friends outside if they suffer from an anxiety disorder. It’s all pick-up or order to-go, with a 30 minute wait if you don’t call ahead. Expect not a lot of crowd control: first come, first served, fend for yourself type of dining experience. No chairs(standing room only) in this tiny sandwich shop. But, on the plus-side, the sandwiches are ginormous. Thickly sliced bread stacked full of tasty sandwich fixings. I didn’t have a ruler, but mine was almost 4 inches tall. I ordered the honey ham on oatmeal bread and it was perfect. My friends ordered the turkey(complete with stuffing) and the Mozzerella, Pesto, Tomato. Share one with your honey if you’re out on a stroll through town, or pack them in the ice chest on your way to the beach. Make sure you pick up plenty of napkins. They also serve basic coffee drinks, if you’re so inclined.
