My husband and I come here practically every Saturday to get our hot dog fix. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and it’s hard to pick a favorite because everything is good. The bun, the dog itself, and the toppings taste fresh and all go well together for a flavorful yummy hot dog. The owner/cook is friendly and has always been nice to every customer who visits his hot dog stand. All of this combined keeps me coming back week after week.

Finally I got here when he was open. They are super nice, priced right and tasty. The pretzel roll was a little chewy on the plain dogs, but for chili and cheese or sauerkraut, they do the job. The sign says sat 11 – 5.

When they are open, Fisher’s has the best hot dogs around. The problem is that it looks like for 2013 they are only open on Saturdays. While that gives you something to look forward to each week, you are limited to just that one day of hot dog greatness!

The one star is not for the usual reasons. At this point the only thing Fisher’s is famous for is never being there during the hours stated. We have lost count as to the times my husband says hey I’ll get a hot dog only to arrive to an empty parking lot. You could be peddling the tastiest thing in the world but you got to be there to sell it. Our initial disappointment disappeared months ago… now it’s just a a running joke.

Really enjoyed this little Hot Dog stand on Central Ave across from Safeway. The owner and his cohorts are all amazing people. They take a genuine interest in their customers. The prices may look steep for a hot dog but your paying for quality and I think the prices are more than fair. I normally grab the Texas Chili Cheese Dog and it hits the spot. They also sell some kettle chips which are pretty good. In reality this little Hot Dog vendor is easily a five star establishment. But recently I have noticed they are not open during the posted hours of operations. Therefore I gave it four stars due to the hit and miss hours of operation.

what a great, friendly guy – I love giving my business to small entrepeneurs like this! And how nice to find this little hidden treasure.(Thanks Capital for the article letting us know!) I thought the hotdogs were quite good but the toppings are exceptional – he makes the saurkraut, cole slaw and chili himself and I am hoping he can be talked into selling those seperately. What I did not like and I hope he is open to suggestion – was the pretzel bun. I thought it overwhelmed the flavor of the rest and had an odd and unpleasant gumminess. Please, please offer other bun choices – the poppy seed one talked about by other reviewers sounds perfect… Then I will be able to give you 5 stars!

OK, I’m a dog lover, and Fishers delivered. Had an Awesome Chicago Dog, perhaps the best I’ve ever had, fresh crispy toppings, nice snap to the dog, fast, friendly and delicious! I’ll be back soon!

I made it a plan to visit Fisher’s on opening day. Fisher’s Famous Hotdogs is a little hot-dog stand propped up on the side of 214, across the street from Safeway. First impressions are that it’s a pretty humble place, lending one faith that the hotdogs will be off the chain. There are about ~10 hotdog selections off the menu, but what you want on your hotdog is– from what I gather– up to you, entirely. The cheapest menu dog is three dollars(called the Lazy Dog, with spicy brown mustard and, I believe, onions). The highest menu dogs, which are the only other price range ON the menu are 3.75. I elected to get the Chicago Dog… the quality of the hotdog and toppings alone were superb. Perfect crunch for the hotdog, and I always seem to have a problem with the texture of the bun when ordering hotdogs anywhere… there exists no sogginess and the bite is just right. Now, maybe we need someone from the Windy City to review this particular dog, but my only docked points lie in the fact that there were no sport peppers and it was lacking the specific poppy-seed bun. I’m guessing this is because they use pretzel buns, but I’m not going to let that stop me from ever coming here again. They had your standard selection in soft drinks and bottled water, but what really caught my eye was the Cheerwine($ 1.75)– a southern-based cherry soda that doesn’t commonly occur up here around these parts… so that was exciting to know, seeing as I can curb that craving right up the street. I don’t believe they take credit/debit, from what I noticed, and I made sure to go to the ATM before I hit this place up… so until that is confirmed, I would advise the same. They explained that they would be open the first Saturday of every month, but normal operating hours would be 11AM-4PM on M-F. All in all, a good place, with personable service by genuinely nice people. I’ll be back.

A solid hot dog and, for my money, the best place to eat in Edgewater or Mayo. The hot dog comes on a pretzel roll, which I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never had before. You might think that’d make the dog overly salty, but you’d be wrong. The only salty dogs here are the customers(zing!). Instead, the roll was chewy with an appropriate amount of grease. The hot dog itself had just the right amount of crunch to the skin. I like hot dogs to have that wonderfully carcinogenic black burn on the outside, which this one didn’t have – I was going to take a star off, but I added it back because they have Cheerwine. Talk about going the extra mile! I got the NYC Dog, which had a lovely sauerkraut topping it which I wish I could get at home. They have a variety of other dogs on the menu as well. One of the owners is from New York, which explains a lot. They also had the bright idea of setting up a beanbag toss game behind the cart! Apparently they will be open weekdays during the day and every first Saturday of the month. Bonus points for the shirts: «My weiner is famous.» ‘Nuff said.
