Went for the lunch buffet with a large group. I have to say the staff was very attentive to our group! I liked that they had a dosa station with a guy making fresh dosa.(Forgive me if this is a common thing I don’t have much experience with Indian restaurants). I thought there could have been more of a variety, didn’t seem like there was really that many choices in the meat section. Dessert was an ice cream kind of sorbet and a bread like pudding, both were very good and good together! I don’t know if I would go back just because of the variety of food they have but it was nice for lunch for a group.

Excellent quality food good portion sizes. I had the lollipop chicken wings as appetizer, very good but a little on the sweet side. Lamb Rogan Josh was on point, best thing I had there. Also the chicken kadai was good. Would love to go back again! Negative part. The walkway to get to the rest rooms was freeeeeezzziiinngggg

There’s some good things I like about this place, the décor on the outside and inside is quite nice. The interior is spacious, with tablecloths on the table, and pretty stain-glass windows with interesting depictions. The booth chairs surrounding the walls are comfortable. The service is very nice, they try to make people comfortable — refilling the water glasses, giving children balloons, whisking away empty plates. The buffet food was okay to me. I don’t eat Indian food often but the made-to-order dosas with spicy potato inside was good. They also have a la crate entrees for order.

A great dining experience. The wait staff was courteous and attentive. The food was done excellently. The butter chicken and goat Marsala, the lamb naan and garlic naan, plus the basmati rice were cooked to perfection — tender and delicate with just enough spice. Definitely will be coming again!

Their hours are posted as open till 11:30pm. We went in at 10:30pm and they said they’re closed. Someone needs to update the inaccurate information.

We choose Akbar for the baby shower event of my wife. It has good food, space for the event and spacious parking lot too. It was about ~165 guest. Decoration and lighting was good. The communication from the manager was very poor in terms of finalizing things, I had to call them again and again. The person with whom I had finalize everything, didn’t communicate the final price till the day of event and on top of that, the manager was off on the day of the event so other person helped with the payment etc. It seems like everything was on the fly. One thing I heard from few of my guest after the event is there was panwala guy in the entrance of the hall, he was making pan to everyone. Guests thought its part of the event(obviously they won’t thing some shop inside the restaurant). It turn out the guy is running his own show inside, after people have pan he will ask for money($ 2 for each). If he wants to open his own shop(thella) inside, he should put the price tag on the top. There is no other way someone would know that you have to pay for it. Just look out for it if you guys planning your event there.(P.S. I am absolutely ok paying for it, if the sign is there. In fact knowing in advance I might have paid for it so that I can get inclusive deal. There was no mention.)

Absolutely phenominal! I cannot wait to come here again! The place is gorgeous with high-class décor and tables and the wait staff was excellent! I had a great experience from the bottle service to the dessert. The prices are fair, each person was $ 50 but we had appetizers, naan, an entrée with rice, a bottle of wine and dessert. Really worth every penny! Especially since I have so much left over because the portions are large! I will most definitely come here again – and soon!

Went on a Saturday night so I guess there isn’t a buffet for dinner? Fine because the dishes we ordered a la carte were exactly what we wanted. We had the lamb saag, another lamb dish that came in a creamier sauce, chicken tikka masala and aloo gobi. Then had some rice, garlic naan and paneer kulcha. All of the above were fantastic. Water was refilled consistently(which I deem necessary for spicy foods), and service was just the right amount of attentive without smothering. Minus one star for the appetizers. We also ordered the aloo 65, garlic shrimp and chicken wings. The aloo 65 was fine(I’ve had better 65) but the garlic shrimp and chicken wings tasted like chinese food — like a mediocre general tso’s chicken sauce. The ambiance was quite nice — definitely upscale — and it seemed as if there were a lot of special occasions that were celebrated across the hall in the banquet area. However, for having special occasions there, the bathrooms were rather gross. It just smelled like mold. Whatever, I’m there for the food, which was really great, so we’ll be back. Just won’t order any appetizers(or go to the bathroom).

Hate to say this but it seem like the Akbar restaurant I went to was nothing like the description in glowing reviews by other users. First, it was Friday evening and there were hardly 4 tables that were occupied. In my experience that says a lot. Ordered Chicken Chili –Spicy but it came out sweet. It had no resemblance to a dish by that name. Tamatar Shorba tasted like watered down ketchup. Chicken biryani — Meh.

Best Indian buffet in Central Jersey! I went here with a group of coworkers for a satisfying lunch. Tasty items like tandoori chicken, paneer tikka masala, butter chicken, aloo gobi, dal tadka, chicken biryani, palak paneer, fresh naan with ghee and tutti fruitti ice cream were all amazing. Every buffet item I tried was worth trying. The décor of the restaurant is very ornate, elaborately designed and extravagant. It resembles a Hindu temple and features dining halls that are used for wedding receptions. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and professional. Highly recommend!

Absolutely a marvelous find on our way to Baltimore. Looked at Unilocal reviews and the Unilocalers were begging us to go to this place — and we are glad we listened. The place really sizzles — portions are huge, ingredients are fresh, serving is quick and friendly, parking is easy, and the prices are reasonable. Try their pakoras — you will know what I mean. Pakoras are very susceptible to screw ups but they got it right. Their roasted eggplant is a must have — smoky and yummy. The yellow lentils were cooked to delight and perfection. Our final entrée, Mattar Paneer(peas + cottage cheese in gravy) was served with fresh paneer and if the peas were frozen, I couldn’t tell!

We went for dinner and its was a horrible experience. The staff was so careless and were just waiting for everyone to leave so that they can just close n go home. I just saw the reviews and went there. The food was good but expensive. The quality was not as expected. Would never go back.

Amazing place for Indian buffet food in Edison. The ambience is very nice and calm. Loved their spread of starters, specially the Delhi chaat. And the tandoori chicken with garlic naan and ghee is delicious. Loved their chicken Biryani. The sheera(halwa) is the perfect end to their spread. The servers are warm and their service is good. Perfect for a business lunch too.

By far, my favorite place in Edison I went there 2 times so far. I usually get chicken masala and chicken biryani, the food taste really great and always fresh. The atmosphere is really great(very nice if you would like to invite someone for dinner) The people work there are super friendly and welcoming. I would for sure come again

Akbar is a distinctive Indian restaurant that deserves 5 stars in every aspect of fine dining and entertainment. I have gone to their Sunday evening buffet three times, and this place just gets better with each visit. As someone who has been enjoying Indian cuisine for years, I believe Akbar’s dishes are authentic. I have seen customers of many different ethnicities there, and all seemed to be highly satisfied. The buffet featured about 8 different classic north Indian meat and vegetarian items plus dessert. The spice level was medium– perfect for a wide range of palates. The tandoori chicken was cooked to gourmet perfection. The manager stood near the buffet tables, assisting people in identifying the various dishes. Servers were all around attentive and gregarious. They have a full bar offering several excellent wines and an elegant cocktail menu. If you like strong zesty drinks, you must try the French Martini. Don’t hesitate to order the house wine, which is sure to please any wine enthusiast. The ambiance is spectacular. The entire restaurant, outside and interior, is built like a palace. There is a giant gold fountain in the center. The walls are covered in stained glass artwork depicting what appears to be the story of Akbar the Great. There is a beautiful garden area clearly visible outside the window, which is used for large parties. There are many decorous banquet ballrooms throughout the building. This place would be perfect for a wedding celebration. Whether you are tasting Indian food for the first time or are an aficionado of the cuisine, you will surely find Akbar to be an exciting restaurant experience!

Took out, but it’s a beautiful resto. Was dead on a weeknight. Delish tandoori chicken and the best basmati rice! salad veggies very fresh! I see why the reviews are consistent. Area is a little shady and kinda secluded though.

I have been to this restaurant for many many years, I have seen the food quality go from good to bad and again good. I have enjoyed restaurant, lunch buffet and 1000 times banquet cooking. What to eat, go for the boneless chicken, butter chicken, for veg for for methi mutter, kofta and panner. I love the way they make naan in the restaurant you can ask to keep it in tandoor just a bit longer and it gets crisper on out side and middle is still soft hmmmmm can’t get enough. Sweet I am not a big eater at this place but they have really good pista ice cream, gulab gamun. They do make hot Dosa for buffet(mini) in weekends.

I have eaten in a lot of Ind1an restaurants in NJ and NYC and this is the best current combination of food, value, service and atmosphere. Both their dinner menu and their lunch buffet were excellent, varied and reasonably priced. Add to my prior suggested dishes: lemon coriander soup; dosas, salad, tofu, mixed kebabs and butter chicken.

When it comes to Mughlai food, this place comes really close to capturing the flavors of the home land. We had really tasty Tandoori Chicken(Murg) after ages! The meat was fall off the bone moist and had the perfect balance of spices. Tasted just like it would back home. For the main course, we got an order of the Butter Chicken(Murg Lawbabdar), Roomali Roti and Dum Pukht Biryani. Dum pukht translates to «slow oven». Cooking in this style involves sealing off the vessel lid with dough and slow cooking on a wood burning stove. The meat and the rice slow cook in the juices and the marrow. The result is a very flavorful and super moist biryani with really succulent meat. We thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes. Highly recommended this place for flavorful food. The staff is very attentive and polite.
