We came here to pick up yarn for my small business, only to be berated and yelled at by a woman to go away bc my husband took a picture for Unilocal. She did not kindly ask but used a rude accusatory tone. The place wasn’t even open anyway. It was hard to find, because its in what looks to be a run down motel. We will take our business to a different and more inviting and friendly shop instead. Ill be sure to share this with my knitting groups and friends as well.

My trip to Knit Kit was interesting, to say the least. I did a POI search in my GPS to find it. The search revealed several web listings on different websites all showing the same address. I still ended up driving by it twice, though. It’s in a complex that looks like it was almost certainly a low end motel at some point, and several of the units have satellite dishes(suggesting that they are private residences). Since I had trouble finding the place, I took the picture that appears here on Unilocal to help others find the business. As I was unbuckling my four month old son from his carseat, an older woman comes up to me and asks in a hostile tone why I’m taking pictures of Knit Kit. I explain that it was for Unilocal,a business review website. The lady proceeds to say to me: «No. She’s not on any websites. Knit Kit? No. You don’t take picturesof her. She’ll kill you.» Now, I’m a 32 year-old, roughly 210 pound male. So I’m not going to pretend that I felt threatened by this small woman. I still think it’s poor form to threaten a person’s life while that person is tending to his infant, however. My wife and I still tried to go in, despite this initial adversarial welcome. When I tried turning the door handle, it was locked. What kind of a business isn’t open at 2:30PM on a Wednesday? In summary, a seedy location with inconvenient hours guarded by an ill-tempered woman(who may or may not be affiliated with the business, but threatens your life on behalf of the business owner). I don’t think my wife or I will be returning. That stinks, too. This place is way closer to our home than the place in Westfield where my wife usually goes. …and to the sentry of Knit Kit, please note that there were two reviews on here before today. So Knit Kit apparently is on the web. Sorry to disappoint you.

I took my mother there because she wanted some help choosing good yarn. The place is a little difficult to find but is cute I guess. Once inside, two ladies greeted us. One was very helpful and tried really hard to get the correct yarn for my mother. The other lady was an absolute monster. She was only concerned about going home. We got the feeling that she didn’t want us there. She kept saying that they didn’t have the yarn we were looking for and that we should come back when they’re not about to close. Oh, what time do you close? «5». I look at the clock, its 415. Are you kidding me? Instead of telling us to come back, why not get off your butt and help us find the yarn. And these people require emails in advance so they can expect you to come. How can you run a business if you don’t allow walk-ins? My mother was very excited to try a new yarn place but that one lady really turned us off to ever going back there.

This shop has a fantastic selection of yarns, including yarns from small producers in the U.S. The staff is very helpful, and there is a sitting(knitting) area where you can bring your project and get help from expert knitters. When I was there there were several ladies knitting and they were very welcoming. A fantastic resource for knitters.

The Knit Kit is run by a very very kind staff, though it’s located in what could best be described as an old motel of sorts. They were very helpful with my yarn questions and had a great price on Lambs Pride which was four dollars more in Princeton. This having been said, there is a lovely and very sleepy cat that roams around the store(and ignores the yarn!), though some with cat allergies may not want yarn that’s been kittified… and the shop smells a but musty. The yarn selection is fairly basic, with plenty of acrylics and basics with a few upscale yarns thrown in, though the stock can be unpredictable. They are happy to order anything for you if it’s not in stock. I have to end on a positive note, though– the staff is very helpful and seem to love working there!
