Rented 2 bikes from here($ 80) for the week while staying on Edisto. The staff was friendly and helpful. Inside the shop are a ton of fishing and biking accessories with some pretty cool apparel.

Inside seemed very messy and all unorganized! So I decided to look at the rental and tour prices. Every rental seemed expensive but they did have a large variety of things to rent! We decided to buy a swim shirt and we went to pay but no one was at the counter. We were leaving when what looked like a high school girl walked out of the back and was rude! Never renting here!

Surly middle age man either runs of owns the store, or both. Unfortunately they have very little competition so he can afford to be a jerk. Had some questions about renting a kayak and where to use it and was treated like dirt. If I lived here I’d open up a competing business and prevent anyone else from enduring the rude treatment my family experienced.

Very disappointed. Headed to Whaley’s to eat I noticed my back bicycle tire running strange. Decided to attempt to take it straight back to condo after dinner, but had a blow out. Missed and amazing sunset with family, got green«fix-a-flat» all over my clothes, pushed bike about a mile, and then had to pay about $ 28 for a tire. Worst case of customer service I have ever seen in such a very friendly vacation place.

A very nice store that rents out anything you would ever need. The prices are a bit expensive but I have not found a better option price-wise on Edisto. The service is mediocre. The lady is very friendly but the male owner is mostly friendly but can be a little short. They are VERY firm in their rental policies which seems to be the bulk of the complaints below. I have rented from them three times and never had a problem with them or the products. So in my three experiences it has always been good and I have not had any problems.

After reading the negative reviews I’m surprised. We rented two bikes this week. The store was very busy. The two people working the desk were very friendly and helpful. They kept the lines moving and even answered phone calls with a smiles on their faces the entire time. I couldn’t be happier.

This place lives up to all of the previous reviews. My wife and I rented two bikes and a pull cart to haul our 5 month old around the island while we were here. Not only was this place more expensive than the other rental places, by about $ 25 for the week, but the bike my wife got was junk. I had to ride it from our property all the way back to the shop to get another one. Also, their ad says they will deliver, which would lead you to believe they would pick up. So as not to have to shuttle bikes across the island to drop off, I called about pickup service. I was told pretty firmly that the only way they would travel the 3 minutes by car was if they were dropping off more bikes. Basically, unless they were going to make a buck, they weren’t doing it. They’re schedule is also very skewed. If you come in on a Tuesday and want to do a 3 day rental, a normal person would believe that you would have the bike until Friday, especially if you were renting in the afternoon. Not the case here. Apparently the afternoon is considered a whole day and you would be required to return the bike on Thursday. All of this coupled with the general unfriendly demeanor of the employees and what I believed was the owner did not make for a great experience. I will not be going back and I suggest to anyone to use ANY of the other rental facilities in town. If you can’t find what you’re looking for without going to Island Bikes, then I would seriously consider just doing without.

Southern hospitality? You won’t find it here. We rented a two-person kayak and needed it overnight so we were charged for two full days($ 68 times two, you do the math.) On the morning of our trip, we found out that our trip leader had food poisoning and couldn’t go, so we took the kayak back to see if we could get a refund for the second day of non-use or leave it and come back for it on another day for no additional charge. Not a chance. I’m not sure how these people sleep at night but I do know that I will never set foot in their shop again and I will also discourage others from using their lousy rental system.

Hopefully this place will be out of business before next year’s Edisto trip. I’ve been going to Edisto for over a decade, and this is the first time an island business has burned me. Click the back button and go elsewhere for your vacation needs. Owners are not sincerely friendly. They weren’t the first time I met them, or when I needed to modify my trip plans. I needed a kayak one day from 8AM to 6PM. Took it at 1PM the day before since the owners said my trip would count as 2 full days rental. That’s certainly questionable by itself, but not the reason for this review. The night before the trip, the trip leader came down with food poisoning and the trip is delayed from Wednesday to Friday. I go at 8:55AM, 5 minutes before the earliest time anyone can rent a kayak on a given day, to return the kayak and ask about using it Friday. They had plenty of rental kayaks available and no ther customers, so it’s not as if I was costing them business by shifting the time. I am told I’ll be charged for the full 2 days no matter what, and if I want it Friday, I’ll be charged another $ 68($ 204 total). I opt not to give them any more of my money. At the end of the day, I was charged $ 136 to ride around with a kayak on the rental car for half a day. While I respect the business’s right to make and enforce contracts — that’s really not what I need at my yearly family reunion. I’ll be telling all 40+ family members not to rent or buy from this business. It’s always disappointing to find people who have the means and motivation to start a small business and then lack the common sense to keep it going with repeat customers. Here’s the other kayak rental place:

I rented a bike for my wife to use while we were going to be in Edisto this week on vacation. Due to problems with the rental property, our vacation was cancelled and we returned home in less than twenty four hours after we had arrived. We returned the bike after having it for less than one day and not getting to use it. I called the Bike rental outfit this morning to see if I could get a credit for the unused days and was promptly told that they don’t give refunds and it is on the contract. I could tell that this person wasn’t going to give me any time to at least listen to the me describe the situation. My recommendation is that you make sure you read the lengthy contract for the bike(it is worse than renting a car) before signing on the line. My second recommendation would be to find another bike rental outfit if at all possible.
