Compass Apartments

Scheduled walk through appointment with Angela Bowen. She never showed up, I called 2 times while locked outside the building door. I’ve heard from other apartment complex’s that they lost their old leasing manager recently and now it has been a disaster ever since. This incident is a prime example of that, I will not be wanting to live here if it is ran like this.

I have really hard time thinking of anything good to say about my three and a half month internment at the Compass Apartments. But like my Grandma use to say, if you don’t have anything good to say, sit right next to me.
The good:
Short leases (thank God),
The bad:
Move in: The fun starts the first day. No truck access for vehicles over 8′. You get to drag everything from the street, terrible elevator.
Quality of life: If you need sleep, RUN as fast and as far away as possible. I cannot stress this enough, this place is HORRIBLE.
Comfort: This is the hottest building I have ever lived in. You cannot open the door because of the road noise and even if you could the common area was even hotter so you just moved hot air. Do not even consider living here if you do not have an air conditioner.
Sound: I was on the Edmonds Way side so I knew it was going to be louder, but it exceeded even my low expectations. The problem was it was louder at the wrong times, this due to the amount and type of traffic that is generated by the Edmonds ferry. You have waves of motorcycles and semis starting at 5am thru 11:00pm. I recorded decibel readings of up to 75db with the door closed. 45db is enough to waken a sleeping person. And frequently it did.
Have ever wanted to know your upstairs neighbors schedule and habits, If so, you are in for a treat. Do they have a small or large bladder, you will know. You will hear every step, soft sole, heels or barefoot. As an added bonus there is a fire station two blocks away. I’ve lived in dorms quieter than this place.
Light: If you need darkness to sleep not your place. It was never dark. The vertical blinds ensure lots of light bleed. as a bonus you have these wonderful 300 watt high pressure sodium street lights right outside your window, as a bonus adjacent to the sleeping you have appliances with the brightest blue displays you have ever seen.
Cost: Worst value ever. This place charges top of the market, class A rents and then adds to it ala carte. From parking to sewer, water, garbage etc they will charge you. BTW, I now live in the bay area and my utilities are 10% less than at Compass. If they can figure out a way to charge for use of the elevator they will.
In summary, worst place I have ever lived. You could not pay me to live there.

They ran a background check and charged our card for the app fee without our knowledge. I emailed the manager about it and for some reason they mixed us up with another couple who wanted to move in a month or so before we did. I was told that we had authorized some person we never met to look at an apartment (it wasn’t even the size we had applied for) for us, but we never did. Every time I asked about the mistake, the answer was dodged and we decided to go with a different apartment who doesn’t steal our money.

Living in the apartments has been great the past 6 months I feel secure with a brandnew baby at home and not just anyone can walk in the building without knowing someone who lives here. It very clean in the lobby areas/​gym/​lounge. The staff is very helpfull and understand when it comes to certain things and they respond to emails very well. Its a very nice looking building and easy to upkeep if you are looking for something very upto date and clean looking. The interior is very well put together, I would definetly reccomend this place to people in edmonds who dont want to live near the retirement age near the water. I would have to say the things that bother me is a cop had knocked on my door and needed to get into a apartment but couldnt get ahold of the apartment owner and I didnt have a club who to contact or even a number to call for them. Another big issue especially with a newborn baby is walking into the building knowing it is a smoke free apartment it majority smelt like weed walking in and sometimes could smell it coming into my own apartment. I know its legal and all but its bothersome to me and I know a few other residents. People would try to cover up the smell and it would just make it worse. WIsh people could respect others and vent it out there balconies.

I moved into this place 3 months ago. I work in Everett and some co workers recommended to live in Lynnwood/​Shoreline area. I found this apt complex online and started talking with the apartment agents (Nathan and Cassandra), both agents were very helpful through out the process and was willing to work with me on all details.
This apartment complex has 2 buildings and both are brand new. The community room is outstanding (pool table, nice sofas, big kitchen, and several flat screen TVs). The gym is small but it has the equipments to get the job done (at least for me). The parking structure is also a plus but it could get a little crowed. Their website is also great, you can pay rent and post ads/​blog. I really like the location of this apartment because it is very close to the I-​5, safeway, costco, and 99 asian super market.
Couple of things didn’t work smoothly in the beginning of the move in period, but the maintenance crew took care of everything within 1 – 2 business days.
