Black Box Warning: This is ! NOT ! a vegetarian-​friendly place! Beans are made with lard; even the tortilla chips are fried in lard. Besides that, the enchilada sauce looked and tasted like tomato paste fresh from a can. Guacamole contains no seasoning except salt and a hint of lemon. This place gets two stars rather than one because the staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating, even to weirdos that don’t eat animals, but they don’t understand us.
We told the server we were vegetarians and asked her to let us know if there was anything with lard or chicken broth in our orders. She did as we asked, and advised us to have boiled rather than refried beans. Then she brought out our chips and salsa without a word. One taste was all it took. The server confirmed the chips were fried in lard, and brought out steamed tortillas instead.
Vegetarians and people that eat halal or kosher, stay away, or ask about absolutely everything before you put it in your mouths.

Pros: fried tacos made with shredded chicken, or shredded beef or Potato — all were good. The whole beans with shredded cheese on top, the horchata, the Mexican rice, and the chips and salsa — all good. Convenient parking and very friendly wait staff. Decent prices for what you get. The one thing I liked about the décor, even if it was out of place, was the pro America/​military at the register. USA USA USA!
Cons: cheese enchilada, the décor was a little different for a Mexican restaurant. Was very quiet with no Mexican ambience, no music. That made it strange.
I would come back for the food but not the ambience.

Delicious food, awesome service. I love coming here because it’s a comfortable atmosphere where you dont feel rushed and can enjoy your food. All of the servers are nice, the place is always clean. I love the potato tacos here!

I love Mexican food. This place is a solid Mexican place. This place is nearly in Mexico.
The burrito was above average but the salsa was really good. It was made fresh, aged right, and had a really strong flavor.
They handled a large group well.

Food is always delicious, friendly staff, good prices. Restaurant is clean. I love this chips and guacamole. The chips are served right out of the fryer. My favorite is the cheese Sonoran enchilada and chili beans.

Went and tried this place for the first time with my boyfriend. I can’t belive I kept hearing good things about this place. We are very disappointed with the bland taste of food and how they served my boyfriends food on what looked like a cafeteria plate. In addition nobody ever came around to check on us or bother to ask us if we wanted a refill. When we got the check they charged $ 40 for everything. I’m very curious on how they can charge that much for blan food and subpar service. If I wanted food without flavor and basic service I could have easily made food at home that would taste better.

the food at Sobes never disappoints the service is fast and courteous and have recommended it to many people and I recommend it for you.

The Chile Relleno I had was soooo delectable! My palate wanted to scream for more! I srsly think people were staring at me… LOL…watching me really enjoy the scrumptious food that was before me!!! Ahhhhh… That was a Happy Memory!
The Chips & Salsa… Perfection… I’ve never enjoyed chips as much as I enjoyed these… the Salsa had a wonderful flavor & nice spicy kick too! Oh, what to do… what to do… Oh, I know… Order some C&S to go! YUM!!!
The service was excellent! Excellent! Our server, Nohemi, is so sweet & helpful!
My only issues were:
* At the bottom of my tea, there were some loose tea leaves… so, I couldn’t enjoy the last sips without drinking leaves… It’s not like the tea was spectacular, it wasn’t…but it got the job done…
* Beef Enchilada was ok… No cheese in or on it… surprising…I should have just got a second Chile Relleno! Fo sho!!!
BTW: I’m still dreaming about that Chili Relleno and the chips and salsa!!!

We were so pleased to find Sobe’s. It was early, just a little after 10 am and we wanted to have breakfast /​lunch, having just left Yuma. Well Sobe’s was open — we called — and when we entered we may have beent the first of the day. The Waitress was nice and cheerful and helpful. The Menu was extensive and we were oh so simple. A chili verde burrito and a taquito for me and a machaca and egg burriot for her, well the burritos were both so meaty. and the machaca was so tasty and the chili verde was again so flavorful and we want to come back and it is so far away now in the rear view mirror. Well those things happen. If you are on Highway 8 coming through El Centro this is the place to stop for flavor and more! Wow

Poor service and so so food. With the other Mexican food choices in this town there isn’t much to draw me here. The server only talked to us (barely) to take our order and to deliver our food. Otherwise, wait to be seated, wait for food, wait for your check and wait wait wait to pay and leave.

My family and I love this place! Everything is exceptionally fresh and delicious. We tried a variety of everything and our favorites so far… tacos, fried quesadilla, shrimp with rice. Accompanied witj great service.

Every time we eat, the owner greets us and treats us like family. The food is awsome, and the salsa is just right. They put the special in special quesdia. The best ones I have ever had.

Pretty good Mexican food is served here. Serving sizes are very generous and the service is good to boot. I especially enjoyed the albondegas soup. Next time, I’ll just order the large size bowl of this soup and make a meal only out of that.

I have been to Sobe’s numerous times and the quality of their food has been consistently good. This is one of the few Mexican food restaurants, in the valley, that I consider to be a good representation of authentic Mexican food. Now, with that said, I have not sampled every item on the menu, however, I have never been served a bad meal. All of the people that I have taken there, have enjoyed their selections.
The only critique I have for the restaurant is the service staff can be absent at times, but that is usually confined to the peak times during the lunch rush. Overall, they do have attentive service.

Searching for good restaurants is harder as you get further away from major cities. Took my mom out for Mother’s Day today, found this place on Unilocal of course.
I was pleasantly surprised! The service was great and the food was very good. The food was served hot, we got a choice of refried or whole beans. I had 2 ala carte items, the super taco and a chile relleno. The chile was well prepared, with the traditional sauce poured on top— very tasty. The super taco was a taco made with a flour tortilla & was also very good. Portions were good, chips & salsa were also good and chips tasted freshly fried, perfectly salted. This was a great find today, would definitely come back.

First time here. One word describes this place. DELICIOUS! The whole family enjoyed it, kids got the quesadilla especial they loved it and wanted more! Food was cooked to perfection and we all cleaned our plate! Definitely will be eating here again!

We had been here once and thought the food was good.
My parents had come to town to visit so we thought we would bring them here for some good Mexican food.
To our surprise the service was AWFUL, long wait to give an order and even LONGER wait to get our food. I went back once to ask if they had forgotten about us.
The food was cold when we finally did get it.
You would think for our in convince they would of given us a free appetizer or deal on our bill but no. We will not go back again.

I found the food okay, nothin really special.
They staff was sweet and seemed to know most of the patrons so I think that’s why all the 5 star ratings.
