Craving Shushi? I do on a regular basis. So stopped here around lunchtime. The food was meh. The service was ok, even though there was only one other table seated. I had to ask for utensils and well, she did not even look at me. More importantly though, is that the dish woman had the water running(for at least 15 minutes) while she did other things. It really surprised me that people are so unconscious about the drought. HELLO… we are in a drought here in California.

Ordered edamame that were served lukewarm, better from frozen at Trader Joes. The spicy tuna is very spicy and has the heat of sriracha. Average, not offensive.

My friend and I went to yammy sushi for a quick sushi fix. We got an island roll and super California roll plus miso soup. The soup was alright nothing all that great but the sushi rolls were really good. A nice place to eat since I’m not a fan of the other food places in the plaza. Pretty fast service too, not sure why people don’t like this place

I was hoping for a great sushi lunch with my pals. The lunch was still great due to the friends that I was with, and I would give the service about 3 stars. The sushi however was disappointing. I ordered a rainbow roll, and a Philadelphia roll. Both were definitely below par, the rolls fell apart, the seaweed was chewy and hard to bite through, the crab filling was minimal. The roll with the cream cheese was just plain bad, I couldn’t eat it. This place has huge potential and I hope that in the future they get it together because of the great location on the El Cerrito /Albany Border. Lunch for four was just under $ 100 bucks, not too bad if the food is good, a big bummer if the food is not so great.

First and foremost, I am not a food expert, but I know good food and bad food… Or maybe it’s just all the cooking shows I’ve been watching on Netflix, but this place is mediocre at best. Honestly I give it 2 stars for the service, and like half a star for the sushi roll that I had. I went in there and got the Lunch Special, which lets you choose between 2 proteins, and they throw in a salad, rice, and miso soup. I also got a sushi roll, I forgot which one but it was decent. The plate was about $ 9, and I thought it was a really good deal; I picked the chicken and salmon for my proteins. While waiting for the dish, I heard a dinging noise which I believe was a microwave… already not a good start. «Chef Mike» really can’t cook and shouldn’t belong in a restaurant, especially a Japanese one… When the dish came I literally was blown away… at the awful presentation. Perhaps this is a family owned restaurant but the presentation was terrible. It looked like something I threw together in middle school or high school when I got home. The chicken was bland and the only thing I really tasted was the teriyaki sauce. The salmon was cooked alright, but was also bland, but the piece of salmon was ridiculously small. I also had to order an extra rice because it was just not enough for me. The miso soup was also very boring… I’ve never used that word before. I really hope they don’t have those miso soup dispensers, I would be very sad if it was from a dispenser. Anyways… the people are really nice, I just don’t plan on going back… there are much better Japanese restaurants around the area. Even if presentation wasn’t a big thing for me, the food wouldn’t have made my opinion of this place better.

Best sushi place I’ve eaten. I also like how the new owners have decorated the place;)

Small, decent place. I visited in the early afternoon, so there was only one other family, so customer service was on point. I ordered the tempura appetizer and the rose roll. You can’t go wrong with tempura(or can you?), because who doesn’t like fried things? The rose roll was decent. I frequent the Tokyo Fish market so I think my palette is starting to understand what fresh(ER) sashimi tastes like. So categorize this as «emergency sushi craving spot.»

They’re really nice people with sometimes good food. They did cater a party for my family and the food is a hub but sometimes the food just doesn’t taste fresh so I dislike that. They’re really sweet and honest people. I don’t know if the ownership has changed or got new employees but the old sushi man and waitress were very nice and polite.

My boyfriend and I were shopping around the area and decided to give this sushi place a try. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff, which in my opinion contributes greatly to the overall dining experience. Being the sushi fans that we are, we were a bit hesitant to try out this place, given some of the reviews posted here. However, I must say the sushi here is delicious! I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews on here. Perhaps there have been some improvements over the years? Anyway, I absolutely fell in love with the jumbo crispy roll. It was very well executed, with a wonderful consistency, flavor and overall crisp. Don’t even get me started on the ‘special spicy sauce’, it adds a nice kick of flavor, with just the right amount of spice. I will definitely be coming back here next time! :)

I ordered the Tempura Roll + Wakame salad. The salad wasn’t edible. It tasted like it was frozen then thawed out. The Tempura roll was delicious but I got 5 rolls for $ 7, which in my experience very expensive. Probably won’t go back.

This place is getting a bad deal. A fair of amount of the reviews focus on the Korean ethnicity of the owner. The sushi is decent and fresh. Is it inspired? No. But the prices are reasonable the staff is friendly. You want gourmet? Head over to Solano and spend 30% more.

Love Yammy! The owners are very nice and the food is plainly delicious. I could eat jumbo crunchy rolls everyday for the rest of my life! Sashimi is to die for. I also absolutely love the Eel!

I came here a while ago, then drove by it to go to trader joe’s which reminded me about my experience. I came approx 3 months ago and order a CA roll to kill time while I waited to meet a friend who wanted to shop nearby. It seemed like the meat inside the roll wasn’t as fresh and the rice tasted a bit hard. The flavor also wasn’t all the way there. Overall, not the best sushi, since I have had better elsewhere. It’s ok, but not the best quality.

The sushi is fresh and the staff is friendly. I couldn’t ask for more. The prices are comparable to the food I received. I love their salad dressing and the Island roll. They are not trying to be something their not. I love eating their and their take out is fast.

I have NOOOOOCLUE, about what those people who gave Yammy a bad rating, are talking about!!! I have been going here for years & years and moved to Sac in 2005. I work in the east bay make a trip or two a month and CANNOTWAITTOEATSOMEOFTHEBESTSUSHIINTHEWHOOOOOLLLLLEEEEBAYAREA! I lived in San Francisco for 18years running a business and then moved to the East Bay then to Sac area. SF has some of the finest Sushi places ever but this place is the best in the EASTBAY!!! Try there California Rolls and their Rose roll, among a few others, and they melt in your mouth! So fresh and NOTALOTOFRICE, you get the fish. And the staff are wonderful and friendly! Shame on you people for giving them a bad rating and depriving others of the succulent sushi they have, ANDTHEYARENOTCLOSEDBETWEEN2 — 5!!! Big plus for me with my crazy hours! Besides Express Sushi & Teriyaki in Sacramento on Madison and Kazan in Vacaville off Peabody, this is my favorite place when I work in the East Bay! A MUSTTRY Sushi place. And BTW this place is NOTEXPENSIVE like some the other poeple say. its reasonable and the sushi is fresh and yummy!

In a nutshell, the KOREAN sushi chef has not perfected Japanese sushi. If you know anything about Japanese food, you know how important presentation is! The«donburi» was very inauthentic. Slapped on a PLATE, no egg, no ingredients other than meat and rice!!! The sushi here was horrendously messy!!! It fell apart just by picking it up! It also made us sick(headache, stomach cramps, and a whole lot of bathroom use!) The wasabi didn’t even have taste! I only gave it two stars because the server was really nice. This is a Korean establishment trying to make some money off popular Japanese food, so if you’re looking for a real Japanese experience, this is not the place! I’m sad that we wasted our money here!

I was going to give it a 1 star(being the lowest), but because of the friendly staff, I had to add a star. So why 2 stars? First, the trip to Yammy was unexpected. I searched for Sushi bars around San Francisco. We found a couple, BUT, the parking(as I now KNOW) is terrible in Downtown San Francisco. I Unilocaled different Sushi bars near us…(by the way, we were on our way home to Woodland CA. coming from a fun day at the California Science Academy San Francisco. I searched for Sushi places in the Bay Area… Most of them. unfortunately are closed during the weekends(that day being a Saturday). It was past 3 or 4PM already… And I was super frustrated. I wanted to dine somewhere nice in San Francisco. but we ended up being in El Cerrito.(as Unilocal suggested the place to us). Anywhooooooo… to make my review a little SHORTER… we were happy to finally FIND the place… Thanks to the not so good 4G services of T-Mobile. we got lost a couple of times. We had a not so great direction giver. thanks to the on and off GPS. So, I was basically prepared to enjoy my sushi for the day. I was salivating and super hungry. The Menu promised YAMMYGOODNESS… I believed the pictures and most of all the RATINGS that was given to this establishment by fellow Unilocalers. I didn’t mind the HEFTYPRICETAGS(that’s how hungry I was)… and coming from different sushi places in Davis, Woodland, and even Sacramento… I was prepared to be WOWed by YAMMY. My bento box contained a MINIATURESLICEOFSALMON… a Sweet bowl of SALAD… RICE. and a TOUGH beef Teriyaki CUT. I believed it was $ 17 or $ 18. I wasn’t expecting to get the same cut as Woodland’s Treasure Dragon for both the beef and the fish, but MYOHMY… If only I chose to wait an hour longer for dinner… $ 18 would have filled my tummy two times over(via Treasure Dragon)… To my disappointment, the beef was too tough for me. It was bland as bland can be. Without the Teriyaki sauce. it tasted like i was eating a piece of paper. That is how bad it was. Not to mention that I can taste the rice more than the beef. UGH… The Udon Beef soup we ordered was placed in a decent sized bowl. For it’s expensive price tag… we were expecting like at least get some decent number of BEEF with it. Suffice it to say, there was a total of 4 tiny beef cubes in the said(SUPPOSEDLYUDON something BEEFNOODLESOUP). And to add more insult to injury, it tasted like WATER. Normally, after dining out, you will see an empty plate or bowl. This day, it was so bad that most of the food was untouched. AND we had to pay over $ 50 for the whole sad not-so-YAMMY experience. So if you are a foodie(picky foodie) like me… please, don’t waste your hard-earned money here. Help yourself with a Mc Donald’s meal. their beef tastes way better than Yammy’s. A total heartbreak for me. Now, instead of trusting fellow Unilocalers’ reviews, I am more aware of fake reviews. I wish people are honest enough to tell other people what they think of the food or place. Anywho, this is a place that i will never. ever recommend to another Unilocaler. It is expensive. and for them to serve you a can of soda for a Dollar… it’s super cheap… Most restaurants now will serve you unlimited drinks for the same amount. To the service… I can give you 5 star… You are so welcoming… however, the cooking part gets a 1 star from me.

I don’t know why this place has so many bad reviews. There are plenty of bad sushi joints out there, and I don’t think this is one of them. Surely it isn’t the best I’ve ever had, and it’s far from to-die-for, but it’s in a shopping plaza in El Cerrito for crying out loud. I assumed the worst simply because it’s sandwiched between every day shops. I was pleased to have some really GOOD sushi. I will say, I don’t eat anything raw, so I can’t speak on that. I typically indulge in miso soup, wakame salad, and a few rolls(Dragon, Spider, Super CA, Lion King, etc). If that sounds like you, this is a good value and a cool spot to silence a craving.

I’m surprised this place received not so good reviews. Decided to press my luck and come to this place since I pass it frequently going to TJ. I’m no sushi maven. I don’t eat any raw fish or specialty rolls. I’m a simple crab, tempura, chicken and california roll girl. A lot of places tend to half ass these rolls because they’re so simple. I thought this place was great!!! They’re super friendly, concise, and fast. I ordered two rolls and they were huge because I had an option to make them jumbo. Everything was perfect and delicious. Since trying this place, I’ve been back several times and still everything was fab. BEWARE: This place loves Tobiko and I HATEIT!!! Even though the menu didn’t state my rolls came with tobiko when I opened it, it had it and was bummed that I made it all the way home not realizing it or checking my order in person. So if you aren’t a tobiko eater, just make sure you say«no tobiko» just in case :)

There are a lot of negative reviews of this place — and I can see why, if you are expecting this to be some super-authentic Japanese experience. News flash people — this is a plaza. In the East Bay. In the suburbs. If that is what you expect, then you will be absolutely ok with it. And the service is totally fine. It is prompt, courteous, and the orders are accurate. No, the server is not coming out in a kimono and obi and telling you about the life cycle of the fish in your sushi. Leave your Portlandia hat at home. This place is excellent if you want some cheap good eats while your clothes are in the laundromat.
