Obviously you cannot please all of the people all of the time, but in fairness to a relatively new restaurant operation, I chose to give 5 stars for 3 reasons. First, I want to balance the haters, of which many only offered 1 star. But, if you understand English and syntax, it seems a few may have an agenda that has nothing to do with the quality of the food or the service. The food is very good. The service is attentive and friendly. As anyone who knows anything about the restaurant business, the three drivers of repeat business are food, service, and price. All the rest is ballyhoo. At Thon Vy you get good food, good service, and good prices. I’ve tried the restaurant for lunch and for dinner and not been disappointed with any of my 7 visits. But here’s something more I found out very few restaurants of any ethnicity will offer. Last week, I needed a salad. Nothing fancy, but I didn’t want any of the faire offered at restaurants in the area. So I asked Wendy(Phong), the owner, if she could make something for me as I didn’t see a salad listing on the menu. She brought me a salad made from shredded greens, carrots, cucumbers, and sprouts, topped with a roasted chicken thigh, sliced thin, with a perfect amount of what passes as their own dressing concoction. It was delicious and just over $ 7 with tax. So I went back today and asked for the same salad, though I wanted a different meat. Her cook made another delicious assortment of greens, carrots, cukes, and sprouts but this time they topped it with shredded pork. It was every bit as good as the one I had last week. So, if your only agenda is food, service, and price, then Thon Vy is worth a visit if you’re on the East side of LA County. My guess is, you’ll be back for more.

Worst Viet restaurant I’ve ever been too. Service was poor and food did not even taste like Viet good. Sorry to say but Golden Deli in Temple City is a lot better. Will not be recommending this place to anyone.

I was so disappointed when Hue Bihn closed as I loved their Mi Quang and could not find it until I came here. It compares with theirs and is very good with generous portion. Broth was just right with the spices. the first time we came I had the Beef Phở which was very good. Nice clean broth… Mi quang is not on the main menu it was only when I picked up the to go menu that it is written on the front. we came back next week and I was not disappointed. The waitress is very nice and has a big smile that invites us to enjoy our meal. The place is clean,(even the restrooms), and the booths are comfortable. We came at 11am and by the time we left the place was full. Small parking lot we parked on the street. Looking forward to going back for my Mi Quang craving…

Limitations of visitations: Two times is good for me. Maybe i’ll come back for the Mi Quang. Perks of visiting: Free nuoc mat(a vietnamese tea drink). No refills. Location: Located in a sketchy strip mall. It would be in your best interest to go here in the morning or afternoon before the sun goes down. At night, there’s not much lighting. This place use to be a chinese/peruvian place. Ambiance/Décor: A clean interior with modern décor. Service: Staffers were friendly and attentive. One of the waitresses saw that our pork chop was not fully cooked… so she put in another order for a new pork chop for us. Food came out fast. Food: I tried three entrees: 1) Charbroiled Pork Chop with broken rice and steamed egg– Consistency was a little off. The pork chop that I had a month ago was good, but this time(Nov. 9) around it wasn’t fully cooked. The waitress saw it and got us a new one. The new was a little bit better, but their was more char marks. I’m guessing if you want something fully cooked, it’ll be more burnt. 2) Bun Bo Hue: Didn’t look appetizing. There was a lot of oil and less noodles. The best part for me was the pork knuckle and pork blood. I do like that they don’t add spice to it. The waitress will tell to put the chili in yourself. 3) Mi Quang: I actually liked this one. The broth was really good with the vegetables, meat, and shrimp that comes with this noodle bowl. I also loved the trademark banh trang(rice cracker) that comes with every bowl. — Out of these three items… the Mi Quang shined bright like a diamond! :-P

Did not enjoy my visit here. I came in and it smelled like a restroom in here. I should’ve left then, but my mom was hungry and we decided to stay. We opened the menu and saw that the phở here was pricier than the usual. We decided to try it and hope the quality of the food would be worth it. My phở was not what I hoped. It was bland and my mouth refused to open to finish it. I almost always finish my bowl of phở! We left in satisfied and will probably not come again. They also had a sign outside with a grand opening promotion with a free drink or egg rolls. We asked about the egg rolls and they said they stopped doing it and only gave the free drinks. Not a big deal, but they can always just remove the sign.

Went with the family since I heard they recently opened. Always a sucker for new restaurants. Heard the promotion was free choice of drinks from either milk tea, coffee, or thai tea. And I love thai teas! My family ordered food while I just ordered a drink. Boy do those thai teas look and taste delicious! The one my sister got didn’t look as appealing as mine though, since I got crushed ice and she got big ice. I love to chew ice while I drink. From what she told me the food was bleh. It wasn’t so good. Service was good.

I enjoy having a phở meal in this restaurant, I like the size of booth seat, you would feel very comfortable. Very attentive service. The most remarkable is you can get a free drink when you order any main entrée, like soup phở.

The seating area is clean but the food and service was not so great. I am not coming back. FOOD We ordered the bun no hue and phở. We also got the free Thai ice teas. Both noodle soup were not flavorful including the meat. The bun bo hue tasted weird. The vegetables were old and already rotted(yellow and black colored). SERVICE The service was really slow even though only 1⁄3 of the restaurant was full. It is hard to get their attention. If we do get their attention, the female host/waitress is nice to us. But, the male is not that friendly. It took a long time to get food and to order. I saw people waiting at the front for service but the host/wait staff did not acknowledge them for about ten minutes even though they walked right by them several times.

Very good restaurant family owned wife is a waiter husbands a chef they are Vietnamese Chinese. I had a chance to talk to them it been open for 8 weeks. I really hope the business picks up and they fulfill the dream. To giving free drink with purchase of your meal so take advantage of ite free egg roll. Everytime i order phở or noodles I always tell the waitress can I get extra noodles for $ 1 that’s a better bang for your buck

So far, I have not been happy with their service. I am currently sitting and awaiting my order. When I got in, I had to find someone to seat me, but since they seem to be shorthanded, I didn’t mind it. However, it is not especially busy today, yet I was still ignored as a patron. My family and I sat for a while before we realized we will have to call for a waiter to get their attention and the menus, which we did. We ordered a bit ago, but our food has not come yet. Our drinks, however, have arrived. The drinks are complimentary since they have just opened. We ordered one Thai tea and two milk teas. We asked them to change it to two Thai teas and one hot tea. In the end, the waiter set two milk teas and one hot tea down on our table. When we reminded him of our order change, he told us «Just drink it, we already made it.» To others, this may seem like a little thing. But I took offense to this. It’s understandable to mistake our order, since we DID change it, but the waiter was not courteous and he failed to make the correction to our order when we had brought it up –even though, we have not drank it yet. I became particularly annoyed at this so I pulled out my phone to post a Unilocal review. Coincidentally, that was when the service towards us changed. Power to the pen, I suppose. We were clamored by several waiters, making conversation with us and reminiscing their days in Vietnam with my mom. The same waiter who told us to just drink it asked to change our drinks several times, but we just left it alone. We didn’t want to fuss with the drinks anymore so we did what he told us and«just drank it». It was bland, with barely any milk tea flavour. Finally, our food came out in a rush. We ordered the two people family combo with a side of spring rolls and a tray of banh beo. The spring rolls were bland, and the sauce that came with it wasn’t good so I just settled for good, old reliable fish sauce. The goi, a vietnamese salad, was all right. Not particularly something to rave about. The fish was salty, but my grandpa seemed to like it so I suppose it depends on the person. The tray of banh beo was supposed to be our saving grace, but it tasted smoky! You know the smell of coal at a barbecue? Yeah, that’s what it TASTED like. We couldn’t believe this, so we told one of the waitresses who was also working kitchen. She apologized and was very friendly about making us a whole new batch. I haven’t tasted the second batch, but I strongly believe it will be better. In striking contrast, the sweet and sour fish soup was delicious! Possibly one of the best restaurant soups I’ve tasted, and I’ve been eating Vietnamese food for 18 years. In the end, I feel as though it was not worth the trip. They were kind and attentive after a while, but the food did not help the case. If you come here, I suggest you keep your Unilocal app open to ensure great, speedy service and order the sweet and sour fish soup.

Came here for the Hue dishes and stayed for the com phan gia dinh dishes. Their Phở is good too. Good food and friendly service. Loud fat kid is annoying but that comes with family owned.

Bun Bo hue was average. The service was very nice. Currently they have a promotion where you get a free drink with your order.

Great food. But the owners had their child playing his iPad on full blast and talking to himself in the middle of the room. So distracting.

Why list on Unilocal that you deliver? And please have someone answering the phone who could communicate with customers

Bön Bo Hue & Ban Bao were Meh. skip the egg rolls & phở(wasn’t good). Guo Gong(spring rolls) didn’t have that fresh taste either. Gave me a tummy ache. Sorry, we won’t be back! It’s really just a 2.5 stars at best for the food but gave the 3 stars for the Friendly service from family owned. Summer Rolls formerly Nem Nuong Ninh Hoa in Rosemead is head above heels better in everything.

Good food. I like the Bun Bo Hue over at Thon Vy restaurant better then any other Vietnamese restaurant I’ve been in the SgV area. Pretty much this restaurant has many more Vietnamese traditional dishes than I thought. The staffs here are super Friendly. I would strongly recommended anyone to dine in Thon Vy restaurant to compare and to try the best Vietnamese food here

New establishment on Valley, use to be a Ga Hai Nam place. Services is attentative, and friendly. Their bun bo hue is pretty flavorable. Decent place and price is ordinary as any other place. Can’t wait to try their other specialties.

I’m so happy that there is a Vietnamese restaurant closer to my work, and not pricey at all. This is just like home cooked food and it was not salty at all in my Bun Bo Hue, just the way I like it, and I ordered an ice coffee, and man that stuff was so strong! Had a piece of the bang mi sandwich and it was soooooo delicious.
