The food is about on par with the other restaurants around here. It’s not the best but it’s above average. The prices are very good as well. What stands out is the atmosphere. It’s owned by such a nice man. That alone should give this restaurant at least a 3, you get treated well here. The food is just bonus.

The nicest owners of any restaurant we have eaten at in El Paso or anywhere really. I must admit it has been difficult finding good places to eat here since we moved to El Paso but we are absolutely in love with Amigos. Top notch service, wonderful food, and affordable prices make this a winner. We left feeling welcome and like we had made friends, honestly. Thank you Amigos.

It’s very hard to recommend a menu item when everything is good. I had read that their enchiladas with fried egg were exceptional so that was my choice for breakfast today. The waitress suggested the red sauce so even though I like green better, I went with it. No regrets. It was very very good. My wife ordered her favorite-machaca. amigos, like about half of Mexican breakfast joints makes theirs without smothering it in queso sauce. It was also very good, but we both prefer it with the sauce. To each his own I guess, so we have alternatives. The atmosphere is simple, but nice and pleasant with an owner who’ll stop by your table to talk the latest politics. He won’t hold back his opinion. I generally agree with him so it works well. I really like the friendly people here, but I have one complaint. After delivering our food, our waitress disappeared. It’s unforgivable for wait staff not to check back on things. There were a couple of other tables to care for, but when you have to ask the owner for a coffee refill at breakfast, it’s gonna cost you a couple of ratings stars. All in all this is still a very good place to go for a good meal. We’ll be back.(Sorry Arnold).

I grew up spending Sunday evenings at La Hacienda, then run by the Lopez family. The old tarpon behind the bar, the old cool beer signs… old school all the way. All my 52 years, either Manny or Carlos would wait on us. All things end, I guess, but Mr. Apodaca brought the cook, bartender, Manny, and Carlos, along with the very well seasoned cast iron pots and pans to Amigos, basically to keep the memory alive. Carlos retired a couple of years back, but Manny still holds down the fort. I still go there with my dad when I visit El Paso. Chile Colorado, Chile Verde, a dang good salpicon, burritos, excellent tacos and enchiladas, and the old salad with french dressing with bolillos and butter. Thanks, Mr. Lopez for keeping the memory alive, and thank you Manny and Carlos for being a wonderful part of my life!

This is an average family Mexican restaurant in a town that has several exceptional ones. You’ll get slightly nicer ambience than at L&J, but the food’s not as good and it costs just a bit more. The chips were just a bit stale, and it’s not clear if they were home cooked or out of a bag. I was there earlyish on a Friday night and there was only one other table, so if they are frying their own they’re not doing enough volume to cook them frequently enough. The first salsa I got was chunkier and much milder than what you’d get at L&J or KIki’s; it also could have been store bought. My second salsa cup was noticeably spicier for some reason. For dinner I had a mix of tacos(beef, deshebrada, chicken). The beef was forgettable, the deshebra was ok, and the chicken was quite good. The side rice and beans were standard, nothing to criticize or praise. Desert options are flan, ice cream, and a couple of flavors of pie. I asked for sopapillas; they don’t have them. Bottom line: it’s got slightly better ambience than its competitors if you don’t like a dive atmosphere, and you won’t have to wait for a table. Prices seemed very slightly higher, and the food isn’t likely to be as good.

Spent one night in El Paso and wanted to have the Tex Mex experience. Found Amigos on Unilocal and all the reviews were right on. Friendly service, neighborhood atmosphere and great food. Had the chiles ahogados(not on the menu) — poblanos stuffed with a pork/beef picadillo and covered with a walnut cream sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. The margaritas were perfect — on the rocks in a water glass! I really have no reason to ever return to El Paso, but if did I would eat at Amigos again.

This was a place I found on Unilocal and I’m very glad to have done so. I was super hungry, I was in the area, and even though it only had four reviews they were all so positive I figured I’d go for it. I don’t have time to write a long review right now so I’ll make a few quick points. The service, from the moment I walked in the door, was excellent. This restaurant is run by people who are genuinely warm and friendly, and, from the moment you enter to the moment you leave, they care deeply that you have a good experience. The food: Chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. The salad was pretty basic ice berg lettuce-based green salad, but topped with a tasty cheese that may have been home made. The beans and rice were good. The enchilada was not smothered in cheese(which I appreciate) and it had large chunks of green chile on top. Good stuff. The chile relleno was a bit soggier than I like(which is pretty common) but had good flavor and I would order it again. I also had a shredded beef taco that was nicely seasoned. The owner(I believe his name is Manny) sat and chatted with me for a while. He offered me a free sample of his personal margarita recipe and it was so good I could have had several. Alas, I was driving, so the sample would have to do. For dessert I had what I believe was the single best flan I’ve ever had. Manny said it was his wife’s recipe which somehow made it even better. Overall, a great experience. I travel through El Paso a lot and I look forward to going back to Amigos.

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst service. No one greeted us, we had to search for a server who said sit anywhere but then require that we move once we selected a spot. Rice was bland and subpar. Chicken was cooked to death and rubbery. Not fresh. Server was worse and we were over charged. We will never return.

The best thing about Amigos is the atmosphere. History hangs on the walls of this old house and on any given day one might spot local politicos and professors hashing it out in the front room while office workers and students hold lively conversations in the den. The elders run the register and greet every customer with a smile and a name if you take the time to get to know them. Local legend says Amigos was started by former employees of the border landmark La Hacienda. The food is clean with a suprisingly refined flavor. Fans of Mexican cuisine know that some restaurants take short-cuts and smother everything in cheese or grease: not Amigos. In my fifth mission of Operation Flying Taco, I ordered the chicken tacos knowing I like them but wanting to understand why. It’s the chicken. Amigos slow-cooks the chicken with a mild adobado preparation that really comes to full flavor in a light, crisp shell topped with asadero cheese, lettuce, and fresh tomatoes. My rating is 4⁄5 because the Taco shells were just a little greasy. Apart from that, these chicken tacos are every bit as good as L&J Café. Check out Amigos: bring your mama, your novia, or your compa, but check out Amigos.

I had their modern chile rellenos, not impressed. my brother had their chili fries(a knock off from kiki’s quasi fries). The nachos were okay. I would return one more time to see if maybe we just or deed the wrong things that day. it is however a very clean establishment with a bar.

Ditto on the amazing enchiladas verdes. The best part about Amigos, of course, is the staff. The waiters remember me, my siblings, my cousins, my aunts and uncles, my grandmother and my deceased grandfather. My mother celebrated birthdays and good grades at La Hacienda and my family moved with the Amigos to the their new place and has stayed loyal since. A fantastic restaurant with a lot of history — try to visit and chat with the waiters before the experience is gone!

One thing about being raised in El Paso… it’s one of the few cities I know of where restaurants that you grew up with are still in business. Amigos Restaurant is not one of those, but it was opened by some of the wait staff, cooks, and bartenders from the old La Hacienda on Paisano. Everyone has a favorite Mexican joint in El Paso. My brother liked Gonzalos G&R. For my parents it was Casa Jurado on Cincinnati. But La Hacienda was my favorite, and you can still get most of the best dishes from La Hacienda at Amigos. Simply put, there is no restaurant in the world whose enchiladas verdes con huevos measure up to Amigos. 4 stars for the food and the service… one star for the nostalgia.(There’s a waiter on staff who still remembers me from when I was a boy…30 years ago!)

When I’m not traveling, I have breakfast with a group of men on Thursday mornings at Los Amigos. The food isn’t bad but it’s not the best either. Our group likes it because the service is good and the waitress that wait’s on us is very funny. The prices are good and the owner is very friendly with us and always welcomes us. It’s not the first place I think of when eating out but it won’t be the last place I think of as well. Breakfast is good, not great. I will have to try if for lunch one day. Try it for an economical breakfast.
