There are a lot of options in town when it comes to food and when it comes to «hidden gems», Isah K. is my informant. A few months ago she told me about Hello Day Café and even though I was slightly familiar with them since I’ve been to Tricky Falls a time or two, I had yet to make my way over there. I guess I was taking too long to try the place because last week she invited me for lunch. New place + good company… of course I was in. First things first: It’s Downtown so be prepared to not get a parking spot right out front. If you’re okay with walking a few blocks, The Mills Plaza or The Union Plaza both have parking garages at an affordable rate(depending on the time of day, you may be able to park at The Union Plaza for free). I was lucky and a parking spot opened up pretty close to HDC. The second thing you should know: If you’re not looking for it, you will miss it. As everyone else has echoed, HDC is tiny so of course the outside is tiny. If you really can’t find it, look for Tricky Falls and it’ll be right next door. We sat at the floating counter facing the window… good idea for a small space. Perfect for people watching or burrying your nose in a book since the huge window lets in a ton of light, but doesn’t make you start sweating. Tight seating, but still great for breakfast or lunch with a friend. Isah had ordered the Avocado Toast. Umm… yum! I’ve made toast at home and put some mashed avocado on top, but this was better. They put a little lemon and sprinkled some secret sprinkles on the avocado. Did I say«yum»? I’m still unsure of what is sprinkled on top, but«crack» «special crack» or «secret crack» all are okay ways to request such a delicious sprinkle… they’ll know what you mean. She also went with the vegan nachos which strangely don’t taste vegan. Also yum. I went with the grilled cheese and split it with Isah. This was absolute heaven! It looks like they make it in a panini press… smart. I think it was made with a white cheddar, but I could be wrong because I wolfed it down so fast. It also had some tomatoes and I think maybe pesto. It was delish, I would totally do this again! HDC is a quaint spot that gives you that small town feel that’s kind of nice. Not the biggest and probably not ideal for young kids, but a nice place. Food is great, service is prompt and friendly. Good little place for a leisurely lunch.

Yum! Cute little hipster place that reminds me of Seattle. Great coffee, food and Green Coconut smoothie and atmosphere. The guacamole was AMAZING. We will be back!

Serves breakfast and lunch, has a variety of smoothies and teas/coffees. Everything was delicious. I had the eggs and fruit with hash browns. My husband the Mexican burger with fries. Everything was really delicious and the service was great.

I came in here as I heard they had«amazing» burgers. The place itself is quite tiny with a hipster feel to it from the people there as well as the workers. I found the service to be adequate, but not special as the one young lady working was more concerned with the conversation she was having with her friend and coworker sitting at the bar than helping us(the only other two people in the place). Short story here — my burger was bland, dry, and disappointing. Poutine was acceptable, but nothing special. Maybe I caught this place on an off day, but I’d skip it entirely and head to craft & social(better beer, better food, better service)

Quality boutique restaurant and café. Hipster vibe. Believe the reviews when people say this place is TINY. There are only three small tables inside. I thought I saw a couple outside as well. I came in at 1100 and was the only person there. At the recommendation of the server/cashier I got the turkey club sandwich and upgraded to kimchi fries. I agree with the other reviews when they say don’t be in a rush if you come here. It took quite a while for my food to get made and I was the only patron. Server refilled my water but never asked how the food was. The food itself was pretty good. Quality ingredients and sizeable portion. But a lot of bread(wheat) and moderate amount of meat. I liked it but it wasn’t so good that I would go out of my way to come back. Kimchi fries were interesting. Fries were hot and crisp. The kimchi was cold so it was an interesting contrast. If I was downtown and I wanted to impress someone by showing them a boutique place slightly hidden away, this is the kinda place I would take them. The Hello Day Café feels like a place where owner must have been like, «Ya know, I’ll just start selling sandwiches out of my apt. If people come over, great, if they don’t, well that’s cool too.» Worth checking out.

I’ve been to Hello Day Café a few times. Pros: The food is always good. I recommend either their Mexican BBQ Burger or their Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich. They also make great coffee and espresso, and it looks like you can even get it to-go. Everything is made in house and delicious. They also have vegan options, which is really nice. Cons: The service is 50⁄50. Sometimes, the waitress can be really great, hospitable, and complimentary. Other times, I’ve gone in and have said thank you at various points in time and have had zero response back. I used to be a server myself, so I’m pretty forgiving of most things. A simple«your welcome» or basic acknowledgement isn’t too much to ask for though. Today’s service resembled the latter. However, she was kind upon our exit. Hmm… Also, if you prefer a setting that allows you space and privacy, Hello Day is not that place. There are approximately 9 seats in this space, and it is quite tight. I don’t recommend bringing groups or kids.

Came into town bowling a tournament. Stopped in for lunch with a friend. He had a burger with onion jam, I had a club sandwich with poutine. Food was absolutely amazing, well priced, and fresh. I’d definitely recommend this for a quick lunch stop if you’re in the downtown ELP area.

Sweet mother of goodness, I stumbled upon this little gem in the middle of all the boutiques on El Paso Street. What a pleasant surprise. I loved my food. It was like an explosion of flavors in my mouth. The server was polite, he was helpful, and he was attentive. The food took a moment to come out, I think there is only one cook, reminder, this is a small establishment. There are mostly bar seating. There are one or two tables inside and I think 3 tables outside. The quality of the food made it worth the experience. My friend had to tell me to slow down, I was eating everything so fast, it really was that good. I will come here again and I highly recommend this little café. The only reason I am not giving it a full 5 stars is because of the speed of service. This is not a place that you come to if you are in a rush and trying to grab a «quick» lunch. If you are having a chill sort of day, mosey in, grab a seat, a cup of joe, pull out your IPAD or newspaper and enjoy yourself.

Not a fan. Came here for breakfast as it’s around the corner from our hotel and I was less than impressed with my egg sandwich. They didn’t have the proper bread for it so they substituted(I asked for wheat but got hard white overly buttered bread). There was hardly any egg in my sandwich and a quarter maybe less of a slice of bacon and overall it was a disappointment. I also had potato hash but all it was just fried potatoes cut into pieces(usually except onions or peppers or something else in a potato hash). My boyfriend had the French toast, and he seemed to like it, but overall this didn’t fulfill my breakfast needs.

I must say I was so excited to go to hello day café, I had even bookmarked it on Unilocal. However the food is mediocre and the service is absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had. The place is really really small. We were greeted and handed 2 stained dirty menus. I asked the waiter for water and an iced latte and she told me they were out of ice. okkk(later she magically appeared with ice to make HEROWN coffee for her and another person) My friend and I shared the meat nachos. It was ok, and it was a big portion. Then my friend ordered the hamburger and I had the falafel sandwich with a side of poutine fries. The falafel was too dry. My friend thought her hamburger lacked flavor so she ordered a side of jalapeños toreados, and as she asked our server, she shrugged and informed us she was was no longer our waiter anymore(but still hung around after that, texting and drinking her iced latte). We were brought 2 jalapeños, and my friend ate one. When we were finished and the other woman server was removing the plates, she commented something like«oh you ordered jalapeños and didn’t eat them. I’m still charging you for it» I clarified that my friend had ordered it and that is why I didn’t eat it… But i was so shocked she gave me attitude for it. I honestly dont mind paying for the jalapeños. but she didn’t have to say it that way. It was so rude. I don’t usually say anything to waiters if I’ve had bad service because I hate being confrontational, but this time I did and the woman server got super defensive. I think if she had any manners at all she could have acknowledged her mistakes and apologized. My friend and I were the only two people at the restaurant. Probably empty because they treat people so poorly.

The short rib burger was superb with dark carmelized onions and french brie. Easily one of my top 3 burgers. Next time I have to try the poutine. Nice people cozy little café.

Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, we got the mexitteranian burger, beet salad, and watermelon jicama salad. Everything was amazing and I can’t wait to come back and try more. The wait was a little long but It’s understandable.

This place was surprisingly small, I am not sure if there’s another seating area besides the main entrance. It was totally not what I thought a café would be like, but I did enjoy the atmosphere. I just made a quick stop for a iced coffee before heading down El Paso Street for the wholesaler experience near the border port of entry. The iced coffee wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad neither, but maybe the Burger King’s iced coffee down the street would be just as good but half the price.

If this place was down the street, I would be eating here breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week. The food here is easily the most innovative and delicious food in El Paso. Few restaurants come close in terms of creativity and bang for your buck. Awesome coffee too. My favorite dishes are the short rib sandwich and the vegan nachos

Poutine! Need I say more? Went here while at tricky falls. Would stay all night if I didn’t pay for tickets. Chic trendy interesting people. And omg the food is delish. I’m not vegan but will always try a vegan option to see the execution. YUM! I got the nachos and pouting and wow high lite of the night since the concert stunk lol.

A couple of weeks ago we went on a small trip to El Paso. We saw this place and noticed the delicious food from the window. We ended up staying longer then planned so we hand the blessing to try a handful of amazing foods. Aside from their amazing food menu, the staff is great and so friendly. Taylor was so great to us and super patient. This place reminded me al lot of something you would find in Silverlake or Echo Park in L.A. If I’m ever back in the area or TX I will definitely stop by for the vegan nachos or the grilled cheese and some poutine fries.

This is a great diner. My husband and I decided to try it out because it was highly recommended. The place is small, sits about 10 people, which I think makes it feel a lot like a Manhattan hole in the wall. We grabbed to seats by the window. We first ordered the Philly Cheesesteak rolls. They were delicious, they had some sort of sauce on top which added great flavor. I ordered the Mexican BBQ burger, it comes with guacamole, jalapenos, and it also tasted delicious. My husband ordered the Pub burger which had some incredible flavors as well. Yes, the comments below are correct. The burger is small; however, the patties are huge! They stack up perfectly. I wanted the shishito peppers as a side, but they had run out, so I ordered the Poutine fries. If you’ve never tried them they are french fries with cheese and gravy. They were good, the gravy might have needed a little more seasoning, but overall delicious. The place gets pretty full, but I really encourage you to wait, because it’s worth it. Their menu is extensive, from breakfast to sandwiches to burgers and wings. Good stuff, it’s an amazing little hole in the wall. El Paso needs more of these.

I was encouraged to visit by one of my professors at UTEP. I love cafes and diners as well as comfort food and classics that have been dressed up. However, Hello Day Café was kind of disappointing. My husband and I arrived around 11 pm to pick up something sweet before we headed home. There was a couple with a child that I would guess to be around 9 or 10 and another man sitting at the bar talking to the four people who seemed to be working there. When we walked in, everyone kind of stopped and stared at us. Since the lighting was really low, the non-bar seating seemed kind of unfriendly(but that could have been enhanced by the outsider feeling we were getting). I walked over to the bar to look for a menu. The barista seemed really friendly, but the three other employees seemed socially awkward. One offered me his seat at the bar, which I accepted, but I felt a little like I was intruding. At this point, my husband was very uncomfortable, so I tried to make some light conversation with the barista. I ordered a dry cappuccino and the bread pudding(since that was the only dessert they had left). The barista seemed to know the family of three. The mother appeared to be drunk and her daughter seemed really bored and tired. The barista seemed to be the one doing most of the work while her three teammates spent a lot of time socializing with each other and the other customer at the bar. While I was waiting on my bread pudding, one staff member(I don’t know if he was a server, cook, owner, manager, or all four) asked me how I found out about the restaurant, if I ate downtown, etc. Eventually I said something about how I thought a milkshake would be an exciting addition to the menu. He kind of scoffed at the idea, saying that when he worked(owned?) at a restaurant in Germany, he got milkshake requests as well. I got the feeling he thought milkshakes were a little low-brow for his ambitions.(I’ve thought about it since, and I still can’t understand why they can’t take the glamour they bestow on their chicken and waffles and apply it to something like a milkshake.) I finally got my cappuccino, and it was pretty good. I didn’t get any cute latte art like you see on the website, but in my short experience as a barista, that’s pretty hard to achieve if you want something dry. The bread pudding took forever, even with such a high staff to customer ratio. When I did get it, it was kind of dry, not very warm, and the«compote» just looked like some thawed berries spooned over the top. I wouldn’t order it again. And for the price, I could make an infinitely better version at home. I only tried two things on the menu, so I may not have picked the best. I would have been willing to give the place another chance if the atmosphere weren’t so terrible. Maybe it’s because I picked not only the worst of the menu, but also the worst time to come.(However, the place was supposed to be open till 3 am, so it’s not like they were getting ready to close or something.) In any case, my husband has a lot lower tolerance for what he calls«hipster-douchebag» so it’s unlikely that we’ll be going back.
