Great BBQ at a very friendly place. Talked to owner Mo at length, retired El Paso Policeman who loves to cook. In fact he won first place in the Central-West Texas BBQ competition, held last year locally. He also does a lot of specialty catering, showed some great photos on his smartphone of course. We gotta do that next time we have a family gathering.

The barbecue was good but not outstanding. The service was great by all employees! I wonder if the place by the Army base is better tasting. I don’t think I’d go back, I prefer to try other barbecue places.

Don’t rely on the posted hours on here. Said place was closed when I looked it up at 2:30pm, but when I called they were open… so we stopped by. I am a BBQ afficianado from wayyy back. Mo was there when we walked in. He told us a bit about the place and his award-winning ribs, but my fave is the brisket. He asked lean or marbled… we agreed that when it comes to BBQ, fat is very important, but for brisket it is essential. It carries flavor and makes the lean/tough meat tender. If you go with lean on brisket, you get what one reviewer complained about: stringy brisket. So, if you are on a diet, don’t do BBQ! My hubby looked at the menu and said he wanted everything. I know he is a rib-guy, so I ordered the 3-meat plate for him with ribs as his 1st, 2nd and 3rd meat. I wanted a good representation to make sure Mo’z was not a one-rib pony, so I ordered sausage, pulled pork and brisket. As the sides I chose fried okra and greens. Hubby opted for corn So here are some of the requirements for me when it comes to BBQ: 1. It must NOT have any sauce on it: good BBQ has to stand on its own. If there is sauce, it should come on the side to use as I want to. That way, if you dont like the sauce, you can just ditch it and still enjoy the meat. If the meat is not all that great, a good sauce can go a long way to make it go down the hatch. What if both aren’t any good? Please let the chef know and don’t continue to patronize the place. Bad BBQ is a sacriledge. 2. It has to taste good at any temperature… fresh from the kitchen, lukewarm and cold. It also has to still retain its flavor when reheated. We got take-out, and by the time I picked my car up from the Auto Craft shop, it was kinda warm… but oh, the aroma, I just could not help myself and I started to munch on the sausage and pulled pork on my way home. Ah, yummy, full of flavor, nothing overbearing, everything in harmony, with a little kick. And the golden sauce has just the right amount of heat, spice, sour and sweet-and the color is just beautiful. When I walked in the house, the air was scented eau d’BBQ from my husbands rib-plate. When he was done, he gave the bones to Ike & Tina, our lab-chow mix children, and they approved! Since I ate early, i snuck another piece of sausage and brisket several hours later. It was cold, but still had taste. Since I had to be in early to day(3:45am), I had the left over for breakfast at 7am, and reheated, it tasted just as good. Service was great… then again we were the only ones there at that time. I did order extra ribs for my husband(you can add ribs to any combo plate for $ 2.50), but I guess with all the ribs already on his plate, they got left off. We were not charged for them and the plate was plenty for him. I also ordered sweet potato pie, but there wasnt any… I am ok with that, since they make it from scratch. I rather they not have homemade pie, than have lots that is just thawed out. The place is bigger than you would suspect. As you walk past the hostess station, you enter the bar area and get to a banquet room. The banquet room is not overly large and I can see myself celebrating my retirement there with friends and family. Roomy, but still intimate. Someone on here did not like the décor and said it was rather bare. I thought is was just right: not overbearing, very personal. on the wall behind the register in a document protector was a pic of Mo’Z first whole smoked pig. No, the décor was not cleverly put together by some corporate guy for the franchise, but a guy who turned his passion for good BBQ and sharing it with others into reality. I am not a fan of franchise food, it is so predictable(I suppose that is the point). I love to find independently owned places, that still have the idealism and vision of their founders… not lambasting franchises, just not a fan of someone buying someone else’s passion and vision. I intend to take my daughter and grandchildren when they come from San Antonio as well as any of my friends and family when they visit. I failed to mention the price-the food was so good, I forgot. The 3-meat plate is $ 11.50 and comes with two sides, bread, pickle and onion. Military personnel get 10% discount during the day and 15% in the evening.

I was not all that impressed with the food here. The service was good, and Moe was really nice. The BBQ just wasn’t as impressive as I had heard it was. I am willing to try this place again, but as for my first time, I was not impressed. Not horrible, just average.

The food was great overall. Service was great, the waitresses were very attentive and really available for refills, although we had a very large party. I got the 3 meat combo: lean brisket, ribs and sausage with buttered corn and fried okra and a glass of sweet ice tea, although they did run out of ice! The sausage was very flavorful and delicious. The brisket was very good as well. I wasn’t a big fan of the ribs but I’m willing to give them another try. I only got 1 rib on my plate but other co workers that ordered the same thing got 2. I would have like to give that 2nd one a try. The buttered corn was overly garlicky and had onions in it. The fried okra had the breading crumbling off of it. Overall it was a good meal at a good price with attentive service.

Stopped for lunch Sunday. Restaurant lacking in any decoration but a tv. Staff was attentive(only table initially) but the brisket on the platter was stringy and the«French fries» were undercooked. The pork sandwich was«mushy». Spoke to Moe and he was going to check it out. Convenient location with reasonable prices but will not go back.

New bigger location just in front of William Beaumont Army Medical. Same awesome, friendly, family enviroment. Same amazing finger licking BBQ. By far one of if not the best in El Paso. Today i went with the Original Greasy burger. But their whole menu is mouth watering. Haven’t been here you NEED to make time
