Very disappointed! I’ve been craving for a real Chinese food not American style. Coming from Hawaii I was spoiled with authentic Chinese food taste. When I read the review I got very excited specially when someone made a remark about it being better than San Francisco Chinatown food. Not true… Most of what I ordered we’re from the Chinese menu and chefs special… The chowfun had a bitter aftertaste, pork ribs was dry, HK style chicken had a bitter aftertaste, family style tofu same same, bitter aftertaste and the salt and pepper shrimp was bleh… All in all they all tasted the same sauce base… Brown sauce full of cornstarch, some was just either a lil sweeter or spicier was for sure it’s all the same basic brown sauce and it left a bitter taste in my mouth literally and figuratively. If you’re not after an authentic Chinese food maybe this place will be passable to you but to me, it’s a waste of money. Sorry red lantern I hope your Chinese menu or chefs menu will live up to the Real Chinese taste.

Being from the East Coast, I am used to having solidly good Chinese food available to me. When I moved to El Paso, I went on the search for a place to satisfy my craving for great Chinese food. This place would definitely be Red Lantern! The food here is delicious. They have all of the usual more Americanized dishes that you would expect at a good Chinese place, and they also spice up the menu with some more traditional and authentic choices. This lets me either stick with what I know and love, or venture outside my comfort zone, depending on my mood. Having this option is wonderful! Other things that make Red Lantern amazing include the fact that they deliver, their portion sizes are HUGE, and their prices are low. And the food is always good. Always. Some of our favorites include the General Tso’s Chicken, the pan-fried pork Peking ravioli, the avocado rolls(an eggroll filled with avocado and crab!!), the Shanghai pan-fried noodles, and the green onion pancakes(I’m used to these being called«Scallion Pancakes,» but they are essentially the same). The«Crispy Fried Shrimps» are also excellent– almost like tempura shrimp! Bonus Round: They’re FAST. Like, they regularly give you an estimate of 30 — 45 minutes for delivery orders, and then show up in 25 — 30. Love it!

Is this the best Chinese I’ve ever had? No. But it is good and in this wasteland of terrible Chinese places, Red Lantern is a true gem. The lunch special prices simply can’t be beat! Definitely recommend!

My colleagues and I usually order lunch deliver at least once a week. You truly can’t beat the lunch specials here. The portion sizes are huge and I take half home for dinner. The food is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend checking them out one day.

I personally love this restaurant. I’ve only been their twice and every time I go there I only eat pan fried noodles, so my review is based on the meal. First time I came here, I was with my bosses. They recommended me the pan fried noodles and now I am a huge fan of it. It comes with a big mountain of fresh steamed veggies and delicious garlic sauce on top. Noodles are crunchy when you get it like uncooked maruchan noodle, but it’ll become softer and softer as you eat the meal. Also, don’t forget to put their chili sauce on top when you eat the noodles. It just goes perfect with the garlic sauce. Also, anything at this restaurant is super cheap. My meal was $ 9.95 and I couldn’t even finish half of it. Their portion is so huge. I’m planning to eat the rest for dinner tonight and I’m already so excited.

So this is a rare place for me; a Chinese NON buffet restaurant. Over all ill say it’s decent, I could go back there again. The prices aren’t bad and the food quality is decent. It’s not much higher quality than a buffet though. But with that being said, in the rarest of incidents, I actually got a To-Go box lol. I’ve never NOT finished my food in a very long time. So while I couldn’t go back to a serving line and get more, I really didn’t need to. The portion sizes are pretty large. The menu was full too, so there’s plenty of options. This seems like a good place to go with 4 people or more, so you can all get like and different dish and share it. Which in a way, would be like a buffet… And you’d probably still have leftovers. It’s a 3 star kinda joint. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s what you should expect.

Large portions fresh vegetables and the delivery was prompt and food was delicious. The kids also enjoyed the food. Orange chicken was a hit with the kiddos. We will definitely eat here again.

They do not accept American Express credit cards here… gotta use the corporate card. Didn’t get a chance to try it. Really wish more of the Asian restaurants would accept them.

I’m familiar with real Chinese food, having lived in China for six years. I’m familiar with Chinese food fiddled with to please the American palette, since that’s all I knew before living in a heavily Chinese area of Houston(before moving to China). The food here is neither of those things, or, at least, if it is, it does one or both pretty poorly. I just didn’t find much here to praise. The food was, to put it bluntly, pretty awful(we tried a bunch of stuff; we were a party of six), the service was a notch south of average, and the atmosphere had all the minuses of a hole-in-the-wall buffet, but none of the pluses. I’ll be avoiding it in the future.

This place has a good location that is the main reason I’ve been here a few times. The food is good but not great. The place is clean(for what I could tell) an exception was the bathrooms that need constant cleaning. Overall the prices are good and 3 people can eat out of their lunch specials so it’s great for big crowds.

I have never really been a fan of Chinese because I find it to be overly salty and heavy… Little did I know I had just been going to the wrong places! All the food here tastes fresh and flavorful without tasting like you are downing a weeks-worth if corn syrup. They have a huge selection on their menu, so there’s something for everyone when I go with the family. The employees are friendly and always hustling to get the food out. During lunch you you can expect to be in and out quickly and get a plentiful lunch special.

I have eaten at this place a few times. Unfortunately there’s been quite a bit of time between each time I’ve eaten there… I forget to ask that they not over season the food. Every time I’ve eaten there the food has been so spicy it was virtually inedible. Once I had a relative from the Midwest in town for vacation and we ordered takeout from here, he was so hungry he ended up having to rinse the sauce off of his food in order to eat it. I’ve eaten at a few places in this strip mall on occasion.(There is a wing place a few doors down from here that I took my daughter to when we first moved to El Paso and she wanted wings. The place was so filthy and disgusting she actually cried when she entered the restroom because there were flies all over the toilet seat. **See other review if interested) So, it shouldn’t have surprised me when I ordered takeout from this restaurant the most recent time. First of all, I requested that they not put mushrooms in my food because I am allergic. I didn’t realize until I got home that the mushrooms were not omitted even though it specifically had the note on the ticket not to put mushrooms in the dish. I called the restaurant to inform the owner about the mishap just so she knew the severity of the issue if ingredients were being used after customers were specifically informing them of food allergies. Secondly, I ordered a noodle dish which was so heavily loaded with jalapenos that it was too spicy to eat. The menu did not say that the dish was supposed to be spicy. The owner offered to replace the dish that I was allergic to but I didn’t want to return all the way back to the restaurant to have the dish replaced. So I also decided to try and pallet the spicy noodle dish as well. About 25% of the way through the dish, I noticed an unusual ingredient was used in the food… It was a dead roach! I was so disgusted I was unable to eat anything for two days. Needless to say, I do not recommend this restaurant(or any of the surrounding restaurants) to anyone who is looking for edible food cooked in sanitary conditions. It is become obvious to me that this building complex is suffering from a pest infestation.

Honestly i believe this place Was amazing! Recently moved here from California and was craving Chinese food, being from LA I thought i wasn’t gonna find a decent place, had tried several places that were not to my liking, but this place had me drooling! Lunch specials are kind to the wallet and the price of food is not bad at all.

I give up trying to find a good Chinese place in Texas. I grew up in LA where even the mall Chinese food is better than the ones here in El Paso or in DFW where I lived for 7 years. Red Lantern had good reviews but yet again very disappointing awful food. I ordered pepper beef, Kung pao chicken and chicken fried rice. The pepper beef tasted like they just put soy sauce over it the peppers were soggy and not fresh. The fried rice was ok nothing special. The worst was the Kung pao, the chicken tasted old not even the sauce could mask the bad taste. I’ve noticed most places here just dump soy sauce over their food and call it a day. That’s not what Chinese food is about. Travel to New York, Chicago, San Francisco or LA the food is so much better.

My wife was jonesing for Chinese food, and forget about it in Alamogordo and Las Cruces, so we tried this place. It was highly rated, and in my opinion, over rated. The service was slow. Granted, there was a large party, but they were well in to their meal, it shouldn’t have slowed down things that much. They did not provide the fried rice that I’d requested. The food, overall, was good, but the service pretty much sucked. And for that reason, we’ll probably never go there again. There’s lots of good restaurants in El Paso that are worth exploring: having been to this one I see no point in returning.

We ordered take-out and I was very satisfied with it. That’s the cool thing about Unilocal: it’s like online word of mouth and Red Lantern has pretty good reviews so we decided to go there for our Chinese food cravings. The restaurant was very full, which is a good sign! We had to wait for 30min to pick up or food, and you could tell everything was cooked freshly! When we arrived at home, it was still very hot. I had sesame chicken and my husband ordered [cant remember the name but it was delicious]… Both was plenty and enough to feed us both the next day. Definitely coming back! Oh, the only thing I personally didn’t like was that it was too much sauce on my chicken so it almost killed the flavor of the sesame. That’s why I decided to give 4 out of 5 stars. But some people like a lot of sauce… So to each their own :)

Good go-to chinese food in Eastside EP!!! Really reminds me of places here in California. Fish Fillet with green onion and ginger: AMAZING!!! My favorite out of our orders! I would so go here just for this dish! SOGOODDDDDD… makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Honey Walnut Chicken: Stick with the shrimp for this dish. Not the same with chicken, but it’s doable if you don’t like seafood or shrimp! Won ton soup: NONONO. The won ton was HARD… definitely over cooked. I couldn’t even eat it. The soup is not that great either. Couldn’t even eat that. Not a good thing here. Chow Fun: Pretty good. I am always a fan of chow fun! I admit, I’m not the best at judging this dish… only because I’m a sucker for large rice noodles with soy sauce. Get this if you haven’t tried it yet! Not all Chinese restaurants have this. Duck: Can’t say much about it since I didn’t eat it. I just know my parents did not like it. Order it to try, but it’s pricey. Anyway, I will def go here again to get some Chinese food fix!
