I know this is a chain but this store is different. The people who run it are awesome! They let me pick up a big order of sushi every new years day, even though they’re closed. It’s always quality and feeds a crowd for The reasonable rate.

I went there yesterday to hang out with some friends while they ate lunch. I decided to get a cup of miso soup and they said: $ 1.00. I handed over my credit card and they said that I needed to spend more to use the card. I said oh no Im alright — thank you so much though! They immediately offered one on the house and were so sweet. I continued to decline since I didnt want to just take food from them. We all sat down and then when my friends round of salad and miso came out they very generously brought me a bowl. I’ve had good service there before but this makes me really want to go back. Very sweet and generous!!! Great place!

This place has delicious LAX and Washington sushi rolls! I was a little sketched out about the area but once we were greeted and the owner introduced us the menu, all that went away. The chicken bowl had a fair amount of rice, salad and chicken. I am definitely coming back :) The staff are really friendly!

Good food, but not a fan of the rolls. Every Maki Yaki is different and the rolls at this one just cannot live up to the location in Uptown Whittier. The regular items are delicious though and therefore I can give it 4 stars still.

It was alright. I was a bit surprised at the food portions relative to the price. Quality wasn’t that great either. I don’t know, maybe I came here on a bad day. I would be willing to give it another shot.

Oh my gosh! Good food and great value. I’m loving the Bento meals. You get meat, rice, soup, salad, AND6 pcs California roll for about $ 10! And it’s YUMMY! I’m also a Crunch roll fan, and this place makes it really good. My brother and I enjoyed it for lunch, and it’s a small place, so I think a lot of people just get it as take out, but it’s really budget friendly. We even brought mom here for a Sunday dinner. The service is good and the food is prepared quickly. I wish they had fountain soda — I’m not into purchasing canned soda, but they do have a water filter and provide cups for self-fill-ups. Parking can get tight around lunchtime — there’s a 7 – 11 in the same strip mall, but there is garaged parking if you go around the corner, with elevator access to the restaurant’s level.

I was in the area and needed food for my tummy, and Unilocal told me to go there. The place looks really bad/weird from outside and the inside doesn’t really make it any more comforting. I decided to eat there anyways. I got a lunch bento. It came with miso soup and a small salad. The food was actually really good. I was surprised cause I honestly was expecting disappointment cause of the appearance of the place but I was totally wrong! All the food was really good. Now I know where to go for lunch if I’m in the area again! I would totally recommend going and trying it for yourself. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

I stopped by here while waiting to picking someone up from the airport and while it is not impressive in appearance, the food more than makes up for it. For $ 6.50 I got the Spicy Salmon Roll Special. It came with Miso Soup, a small salad, and the titular roll. The miso soup, while serviceable, was nothing special. The salad on the other hand was great, mostly owing its excellence to the homemade ginger dressing. The roll was among the most filling I’ve ever had for the price. This mom and pop joint does not skimp out on the meat! Each bite had hefty amounts of salmon and avocado. The salmon was fresh and buttery too. I also tried their shrimp tempura. They were delicious and had that perfect gold color tempura is known for I’m sad this place isn’t in San Diego, I’d definitely hit this place up regularly for lunch.

This place is OK. Server was very nice and worked hard as she was alone. Chef was quick to turn around the udon. This udon was different from the udon I had in Hawaii. Wish they offered a temura onion cake. If you like a sweeter udon broth that is more dark and clear, this is a good place. Sushi was good.

This place was SO good. The sushi was incredibly fresh and the service was great. I’ve actually never had such great tasting sushi ever. Also, it’s quite affordable! My brother and I had a few rolls(the crunch roll and LAX roll stood out as being top-notch). My grandfather had the spicy pork and said it was very good and flavorful. My grandmother’s tempura platter was lightly battered and she said it was absolutely delicious(she loved the incorporation of the fried veggies). Overall, fabulous food and an even more fabulous price. Totally worth it.

My boss was in the mood for asian food today and I found this little gem(thank you Unilocalers!). He got a bento box and a spicy tuna hand roll and he was totally stoked on both. I got a chicken teriyaki and gyoza plate as well as some shrimp sushi a la carte and was pleased with both. We will be back!

Surprisingly, really good. Like everyone else, I passed by here a kazillion times, and have always been hesitant to give them a shot. My reasons: I once came in and waited at the register and no one came out so I left; plus, they always looked closed. Anyway, about the food: it’s pretty good. I ordered the tuna roll and am pleased. Would definitely come back. Looked and tasted fresh.

Sushi was really good and fresh. Maybe a little bit more rice than needed but the service was excellent and the taste was amazing. Will definitely be a spot I go to. They have many options to choose from.

i love places that are obviously family-run and family-friendly… originally found this place after taking Tiny One to see the Christmas lights of Candy Cane Lane. since then, it’s been a spot to come back to whenever we’re in the area. it’s in a strip mall, but has enough seating and is well-lit and clean. the menu is rather extensive, and the prices are quite reasonable considering the amount and quality of food you get. it’s not trying to be fancy at all, but you know what? i’d rather have my $ go to yummy food than fancy shmancy table settings. we’ve had a variety of items, and it’s all been good, solid, delicious food. the soup, salad, tempura, sushi, rice dishes… all of it is tasty, satisfying, and flavorful. the family who runs it are friendly and cheerful. give it a try!

I ordered the 6 piece chef sushi + spicy tuna roll(which was supposed to be $ 10.50 but they charged $ 11.50 — apparently the menu taped to the counter is out of date). I was accompanied by a salad with ginger dressing and a cup of miso soup. Given that the place is run by koreans and is located in a strip mall, I didn’t have high expectations. Also, there are only 4 – 5 tables so it’s mostly a take out place. The chef sushi pieces 2 of each: salmon, tuna, and cooked shrimp. The fish on the sushi were sizeable and well prepared — very tender and quite yummy. The rfsh for the sushi was also well prepared — semi warm and soft in texture(not rock hard like those refrigerated sushis). The best part of the meal was the spicy tuna roll — there were 5⁄6 pieces but they were sizeable and full of flavor. The tuna meat was nicely diced and the spicy sauce was nicely incorporated(it wasn’t an awkward mayo that was added on top, instead it was worked into the dice of the fish). The roll had nice rice and included some fresh cucumbers. It was delicious. I think I would come back here again and I would try a few other rolls. I have a feeling that’s where the action is.

My best experience in Japanese food. My husband and I love their Tempura and Cruch Rolls. The place is clean and they are Japanese traditional owners. For sure we’ll come back and recommend all our friends and family. Maki Yaki you rock!
