Martes Refinishing

Martes Refinishing has done quite a few jobs for my family over the years. However, the refinishing of my two bathroom required fixing a year later and I was charged for it. He does great work, but get in writing all work and warranties so that you don’t get an unexpected bill after a verbal agreement.

Here is the thing, I got my bath refinished about 6 years ago by Martes Refinishing. They gave me a 7 year warranty on their work as long as I followed the guidelines they laid out. It is 6 years later and my tub began to peel, I called, they came out right away and finished the tub again. This is an excellent company that does excellent work and has EXCELLENT customer service. I won’t hesitate to recommend Martes to friends, family or anyone who is looking for a good refinisher and I will definitely use them again!

Doug is easy going and does a terrific Job ! ! Flexible work schedule and has the tools for doing the job right.

My husband and I bought our first house last year – a 1964 ranch-​style home. The previous owner never made updates to the house. The hall bathroom had the original pink tub. We couldn’t stand the color and we always covered it with a shower curtain.
We received bids for a complete remodel of the tub and tile from a few contractors. The bids ranged between $ 8,000 and $ 10,000 – money we didn’t want to commit to right now. So instead, we investigated re-​glazing to make the tub look better, and to save money.
We picked Martes Refinishing based on their good reviews on Unilocal and another website. And we’re glad we did! Doug and Mary were great to speak with. They quoted us a price over the phone and answered all questions we had.
Doug did the re-​glazing himself. He was professional, courteous, fun, and had a sense of humor about things. He was also very considerate of listening to our needs. He suggested adding a non-​skid surface to the bottom of the tub to prevent slipping. Safety is important for us as we are expecting our first baby this Spring.
But Doug went beyond that. We’ve had a couple plumbers look at the the original pitted drain cover in the bottom of the tub. No one wanted to attempt to change it for us suggesting it would break and cost hundreds to repair. But Doug went to a shop and found just the right drain cover we needed and installed it without any problems. He also changed the drain lever. All of this extra service for a very fair price.
We expect that that the tub re-​glazing won’t last forever, but for now we are so incredibly happy with the results. We plan to update a few more things in the bathroom. Once we’re done with our mini-​remodel, we’ll no long be embarrassed to have company over. We’re proud to show off our «new» tub!

Had a 50 year old sink that someone dropped a hand machine in and cracked and broke the porcelain. Doug came out and fixed the hole /​crack and reglazed it to look like new. We had him glaze the other sink to match. If this sink could not be repaired we would have had to tear out the whole vanity. Great job, on time and communication was professional. I recommend them.

Doug was absolutely fantastic. We had an old tub that was very dingy and just could not get clean no matter how hard we tried. It was a beautiful old tub that we did not want to get rid of.
I called around and Doug quoted me $ 400 which was in line with most of the estimates I got. There was one place that offered to do it for $ 250 but the reviews were mixed and I did not want to have to do this job twice.
Doug showed up on time and was friendly and kind. He explained the process to me, took a look at the tub and said that his estimate of $ 400 would not change and got to work. He laid down drop cloths and treated our place with care and respect. He also did everything he could to minimize the smell from the tub.
The work took about four hours, it dried over night and he came back the next day to clean up and make sure it dried properly.
In the end, the tub turned out beautifully, it’s like we have a brand new tub.
You might be able to find someone who can do the work a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for, and Doug is a real professional who does top quality work for a fair price.

I was referred to Martes Refinishing by a third party, who told me that their friend used «Doug» of Martes Refinishing to do a job. I called Martes and left a voicemail, asking for Doug to call me back.
The next day, Doug called me back. I told him about a bathtub in a rental unit I manage and asked for a quote to refinish/​re-​glaze the tub. He was forthright and explained the ifs, ands and buts. He told me the more they had to sand, strip (etc.) the tub, the more it would cost, but no more than about $ 400.00.
Doug sounded like a good guy and a real person. I didn’t even shop it further. I just made an appointment for the next day. Doug showed up as promised. He and a helper dry sanded the tub (which I preferred and which is the proper way to do it, as opposed to using a stripping agent), cleaned up old caulk on the tub edges and abutments to the tile and then did their magic for the finish. He came back this AM and cleaned up the taped off areas, polished the tub and applied finish caulk lines as needed.
Couldn’t be happier with the high-​end quality work. Doug is an exceptionally personable individual and is obviously as honest as the day is long. I recommend Doug and his company for tub re-​finishing/​re-​glazing.
