This place is super interesting!!! Sadly, this is not the best location, and I wonder what’s going on behind the screen door, but the ice cream was great! There were about 15 flavors with a solid mix of traditional flavors, and also some really interesting new flavors. We got a double scoop of vanilla and Superman: blue moon, cherry and lemon… The vanilla was creamy, not vanilla bean, but an awesome texture and the superman was fabulous. It didn’t taste like any of those individual flavors to me, but the combination was superb and it was so creamy. I would go back for ice cream! Now this is also a full service Chinese restaurant w/some fried American staples like onion rings, nuggets, pizza puffs, etc. they also have an array of scratch off lotto tickets to chose from with plenty of winning tickets displayed. And bubble teas and on display too. The whole thing is weird, but I bet it’s good. The stand has been there for decades, and maybe I’ll give the Chinese a try something. Honestly, I don’t have a go to Chinese place in my area, maybe this could be it???

Surprisingly good Chinese food. I grew up getting ice cream from here, so I was hesitant to order Chinese. We tried it and and it was great! This is now our regular place. The only downside is no delivery. But their service is wonderful. They always double check your order.

This place is so good! I love the people that work here because it’s nice to see smiling faces that take pride in their work. The variety of hot food, deserts, and drinks make for a fun dinner. Worth every penny.

The kids enjoy walking over to get ice cream here. They are very nice and patience when ordering. The sundae’s we ordered reminded me of DairyQueen but less expensive.

I love this place. It has everything from ice cream to chinese food, and they’re typically very fast and get your order right the first time. The only thing that was a bummer was when they stopped making or ran out of the dipped butterscotch bars. Those were so addicting! If you’re looking for somewhere reasonably priced with good customer service and delicious food this is a great place!

This Chinese/FrenchFry/Ice-cream joint was right under our nose for years and we had no idea. They have better Chinese food then any place with in a 15 mile radius at least. And it’s so cheap. And they have Gourmet ice cream. They were incredibly quick to fix our food even with a line. We got shrimp eggrolls, kung pao chicken, spicy honey chicken, tiramisu ice cream and cookie dough ice cream. And it was soooooo wonderful! We’re so impressed with this little unassuming place, and we will definitely be back.

I wish I could leave two separate reviews for this place since it is essentially two different businesses. Their ice cream smoothie business is great. I have enjoyed the bubble tea and ice cream I have gotten from here, however the Chinese food is another story. The quality of the chinese food is no better than McDonald’s or Taco Bell. The chicken in the fried rice is like the spongey chicken nuggets made of pink slime from Mickey D’s and the same goes for their breaded chicken. I only ordered here once based upon 4 star Unilocal reviews, but boy was I wrong. Smoothies or Ice Cream: YES5 Stars. .. but Chinese Food: NO1 Star

Stopped by tonight and got some generals chicken, egg rolls, and crab Rangoon. Didn’t have to wait too long for the order and you could tell from the taste that it was«fast food» style Chinese eats. I wouldn’t go back for the Chinese food as there is another restaurant closer to home that we usually hit up that is pretty darn fantastic, but the randomness of the menu piqued my interest. I could see myself stopping by in the summer for a Boston malt, funnel cake sundae or a corn dog.

Imagine if Baskin Robbins, a fast food joint, and a Chinese restaurant got married. Bam there is Gee and Jays. I ordered a small beef fried rice, med soda and 2 egg rolls. Total was $ 10.82 its ok but im from chicago and in chi town its s little cheaper. The food was good and they had a stream of customers that came in. It seems popular. It seems like they have everything including lotto! Yes, I said lotto. Coming in can be a little confusing as you try to figure what type of establishment you just walked into. Staff are friendly and the area seems clean. Nice place but a little confusing. If it’s not one thing you do, then do it all seems like the idea of this place.

I can not express our love for Gee and Jay’s in mere written form. It must be screamed to be understood. After my girlfriend and I moved to Elgin, and we are both big lovers of Chinese food, we had the worst time trying to find a Chinese restaurant that was decent. Everything fell short. Until we found Gee and Jay’s. At first, it’s one of those places you drive by and say, it’s Chinese food AND ice cream… I have to go in there just to see this. But the FOOD! OHMANTHEFOOD! My girlfriend loves the snack food like mozterlla sticks and I love the Chinese food like Sesame Chicken, Broccoli and beef and of course, the Jalapeño Chicken. The Jalapeño Chicken alone is worth this place to stay open for. And it never hurts to get a TiraMisa Malted shake before I leave. I can not say enough good things about the service. Every time I come in I feel truly welcomed, not like a chain where they are told they have to act a certain way. Plus I am slowly trying to learn Chinese from the owners who are so happy to help with every word I screw up. If I would only be able to ever eat at one restaurant again, this would have to be my first pick. Please, do yourself the favor and stop in.

I don’t think there are many bubble tea places in Elgin, and so I will be fair when reviewing this place. Their smoothies that they put boba in are okay. I think they are fresh fruit, so that’s a definite plus. The downside is sometimes they are a little too textured, and add that with the boba and it gets messy. The drinks are huge, and I feel like it can be overwhelming for me. While the fruit smoothies(peach, berry, coconut, pineapple, mango, and maybe some more?) are pretty good, the boba that they put in the drinks is not so good. They are a little off in taste and I think it makes a big difference in the overall drink. Overall, not the worst«bubble tea» drink I’ve ever had, but definitely not among the best.

Do you like pizza puffs? So do I. Do you like shrimp fried rice? So do I! Do you like to eat them both together as a meal? OMG, so do I! Do you NOT like to have to make multiple trips for one meal? Neither do I… and that’s why I love Gee n Jays! They are the perfect one stop shop for all your snackin’ needs! They are the embodiment of the«melting pot» combining Chinese-American cuisine with good old fried crap that we all know and love. All american ice cream? They got that. Bubble shakes? They got that too! And if you love Gee n Jays that much, they do sell t-shirts for $ 8, in order to properly profess your love for this establishment. The only gripe I could possibly have about this place is that they aren’t open until midnight-ish, because the Northwest ‘burbs could really use a few more of these places open late. All in all, quick service(most orders take 5 minutes or under to cook), friendly people, located about a mile south of 90 on Rt. 25. Stop in on your way to the casino!

I visited this place many times in my day, I even worked there and was employed all throughout highschool. I was there when the owners switched and stayed on well past it was necessary for me to do so. I have also been back many times since. Perhaps it is because I know how the food is prepared and what used to go into all of the ice cream that no longer does. They used to make real shakes with real fruit, now it’s a shake machine and flavorings(and more expensive). They used to use a higher fat percentage of ice cream(for better flavor), now they use the cheaper lower fat options. It seem like the managament has improved since working there almost years ago– They used to leave me and my friends(all under 18) in charge for hours and hours at a time. Not safe or responsible was my opinion then, and that hasn’t changed. I would recommend coming here only if you have memories that invest you in the place. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone new– there is much better to experience in Elgin.

This is THE place to get ice cream and Chinese Food in Elgin. i used to get ice cream here as a kid ALL the time. Since then, prices have skyrocketed so I don’t go there anymore for that. Whenever I have money to spare while visiting my old hometown, I’ll pop in for some pork fried rice, the cheapest in town! Can’t go wrong with that!

I remember going to this place years ago as a kid. It really hasn’t changed, other than I believe it is now either owned or managed by an asian family. What used to be just an ice cream shop now has an assortment of Chinese food available as well. While I cannot comment about the food offerings, their milkshakes and other ice cream treats are the bomb. Definitely worth stopping by Gee N Jay’s for some great ice cream on a hot summer day.
