Guy at register is very rude. Accidently ordered wrong item and he told me he already made it so i have to pay for it anyways

This place literally has the worst rendition of a Chicago Style hot dog. Plain bun, low quality dog, regular relish, and a long slice of pickle. Everything about it was wrong… the toppings weren’t even spread properly, just clumped together in the center. And morale seems to suck, too. The guy at the counter was on his cell phone the entire time, and the cook just looked like he was miserable. You can’t be a hot dog joint in Chicagoland and serve this food and experience… makes me feel like I’ve lost a little faith in humanity.

Whoa! Whoa! Gyro! Oh how magically delicious it is! This place is great. I have eaten here a few times and each time I have loved it a bit more. The time before last the guy asked me my name, when I went the last time. he remembered it! Talk about impressed! The food was ready fast and it was so good. did i say it was good! It was… Did I said that I loved the fries too! Because I do! I will definitely return… They have so many options…

I’ve had food from two of their locations. The food at their meacham rd location is much better over all. I’ve had the beef and gyro sandwiches and they don’t compare to their meacham rd location. Their biesterfield location is soso.

This place is awesome. The gyros, cheeseburgers, sausages, italian beefs, bbq, and hot dogs keep me going back. I have not had the pastas and was unimpressed with the breaded chicken patty they use on some of their sandwiches. Get it grilled or get something else, in my opinion. I don’t mind waiting a few extra minutes for hot off the grill food. Cheeseburger is always on point. The gyros are popular. Recently I got hooked on bbq chicken with onion and pickles. If you can get it on the French roll, even better. I will make sure to ask them to dip my Italian beef next time. I am a Chicagoan afterall. There is something for everyone on their menu and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

The hot dogs are very small. They look nothing like the pics posted thru out the restaurant. The bun had no seed and the actually hot dog was about half the size of a Vienna you purchase at the grocery store. The topping were sparse and poor quality. For $ 7 I expected better quality and bigger portions. The fries were a very small portion and the drink is also a small cup. I think I will take a pass next time. The workers appear over worked and unhappy.

Everytime we come here, the place is very clean. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Hotdog Special is what we normally get, and comes with all the toppings. We NEVER had an issue with customer service. Its always the same guy at the register EVERYTIME we go, and he is always plesant.

Just moved in area and this place has the best hot dogs in area. Even better is that they have a 2 hot dog, fries, &drink special everyday for $ 5.50. Food is made fresh to order so expect to wait 5+ minutes for your food to be ready especially during peak lunch and dinner time. Yesterday my cousin went there and ordered 2 chicken sandwiches and requested grilled onions with some tarter tots. Chicken sandwiches tasted fresh and flavorful. Next time I’ll remember to ask for BBQ sauce. If your in area give this place a try and don’t expect expect extremely fast food if your in a rush call in your order.

I don’t understand the bad reviews. Every time I go to Sammys I have a nice conversation with the counter guy, the place is clean, and the food is good. For $ 5.50 plus tax you get two Chicago dogs with all the fixings, fries, and a soda. That’s one of the best deals in town! The beef is awesome too. Tender meat, good bread, and double the size of what you get at portillos. Maybe I spend more time in the city than the other reviewers who are complaining about Sammys so I see it differently. But in my opinion, Sammys is one of the best Chicago dog places in the suburbs.

Every time I order a beef wet and I get it home it’s dry as a bone. What am I supposed to do, open the beef in front of them before I leave? This has happened at least 3 times. I’ll wait in line at Portillos

My dad took me here because he is in love with the burgers they have. When I first walked, the room was a fair size. I wouldn’t say it’s a restaurant, but they have enough tables for you to sit in. They have one GIANT main board menu full of food options and combos. My dad usually orders their double cheeseburgers with fries. From what I remembered, I ordered a pizza burger(burger with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce), onion rings, chicken gyro, and fried mushrooms(not in one day. Haha). Their burgers are actually good and cheap. The only complaint I have for them is that the burgers are too greasy for me, and that all the grease ended up making my buns a little more wet… but not extremely soggy. A pizza burger was something unique to me, remembering that burger king had one too. But this place has a really GOOD, different pizza burger! Their onion rings and fries were great sides! I fell in LOVE with their gyros! The sauce is my favorite. What’s great about this place is that they cook FRESH in front of you. I like places that prove to me that they cook fresh once you’ve ordered. What I hated though were their fried mushrooms. The appearance looked appealing, but the inside had the worst batter. The batter made the mushrooms so wet(no, not grease) that it gave the mushrooms such a gross texture and taste. Will never order that again! Otherwise, I see why my dad loves going here.

Just walked in, looked around, there was garbage and food all over the floor and noone was cleaning. I asked the guy for a menu and he just points behind me at the wall I didn’t have such an issue with that lack-there-of with communication, as I have never and let me repeat NEVER walked out of a fast food place for cleanliness. I was so turned off by the site of garbage all over the floor that I walked out. I starred at the outrageously priced menu for a hotdog for a few mins and walked out without saying a word. Just went to taco bell instead. Called the owner to give him feedback on how i was just in his establishmet and was so disgusted by the food all over the floor and the way his front counter guy handled the situation and all he said was thankyou. No, «im sorry, please come back in and let me buy you lunch, i will get someone to clean it up right now, nothing. Bad for business.

Big Sammy’s has some really big prices and their everyday specials are to really specials. This place has a wide variety of food on their menu but overall the place was disappointing. The prices are high and service so slow S I almost starved to death how long it took to cook the food. The pork chop sandwich I ordered was so thin and the quality of meat looked so bad like it was from Aldi’s meat department. Not a very good place and I was shocked that they have several locations in the Elk Grove area

Fat gyros, thick potato fries, and that awfully addictive and plentiful cheese dip you get at carnivals. My problem is that when you put a number four combo with cheese in front of me I’m not going to even think about saving any of it. I’m eating all of it now, and be totally comatosically full for the next seven hours.

Solid food for a reasonable price. The only reason I did not give it a five star review is because the layout is kind of tight. When waiting for food, everyone is crammed into the front area. Other than that, food is fantastic and service is great!

Service was horrible here. I am the type of person who never cares about service as long as the food is good. The food was very plain here, I do not understand the good reviews because there are other fantastic local businesses in which you can get better quality food. All of the food is general Chicago food, just done in a very plain way. There is nothing separating it from the rest of the pack. As for the prices, these are general prices that you can find at most places. As for the service I mentioned in the beginning? I was ignored for around 5 minutes as the guys behind the counter were talking to each other, and I was clearly in view. I probably should have left, but like I said, if the food is good, I’m willing to put service aside. This was not the case. I would have given this place 1 star, but I did finish the food, probably because I was hungry and don’t like to waste things.

My first venture into Chicago hot dogs. It’s convenient to my office, so a group of us went. 2 hot dogs, fries and a drink for $ 5.50. I don’t know many places if at all that can beat that for the value. A few small tables, and bar/window seating. no nonsense, to the point, short and sweet. I like that. The guys are friendly and quite jovial, which always makes an experience better. The fries are crisp and delcious, not too salty at all, the cheese they give is on the side, and ample for the fries you order. My hot dog(with everything) had onions, tomato slices halved, relish, and a big slice of pickle. It doesn’t need anything added on. I’ll be back again Big Sammy, I’ll be back Sir. italian sausage meal is next!

I don’t like the place. Overrated. Food is fair at best. Prices are ridiculous and portion sizes are small. Nothing special about this place. I met Big Sammy himself one day at the Elgin location. Did not like the guy — no personality — I told him it was my first time there — he had no comment and walked away. If that happened to me I would welcome the customer and show him the restaurant and the menu and make sure he gets a good meal. He could care less. I got the 2 hot dog special last night for my daughter because she insisted on hot dogs and fries and Big Sammy’s was the closest place and I didn’t feel like driving any further. I got the bag of food(2 dogs with everything and fries) and it weighed like a half pound. Most other places when you order the same thing the bag weighs at least a pound. Their hot dogs are small, their fries are small, and their prices are high. Go somewhere else.

One of my favorite hot dog joints! for several reasons: ~wide variety of foods, not just your typical hot dog & hamburger options ~clean & spacious place ~fair prices ~clean washroom ~open fairly late ~large menu on the wall ~a lot of photos of the food covering different walls(I once regretted studying all the photos before ordering because I realized there was so much I didn’t know about that I wanted after I placed my order) One thing they have that I have never seen at another hot dog place is their«cheese logs.» They are basically mozzarella cheese wrapped in a shell that is similar to an enchilada. They seemed to be fried and crunchy with a melted cheese filling. They also have plenty of side likes mac-n-cheese nuggets(mac-n-cheese fried into pieces), sweet potato fries and tater tots, not what every hot dog joint has. I always get cheese dogs with grilled onions. The dogs are beef and possibly Vienna brand; really good. Only thing I was totally happy about was the charge for a cup to get ice water and one of the guys at the cash register seemed to be having a bad night or maybe wasn’t friendly. The second time I went in and he was on the register, he was in a much better mood and more friendly, but I had to wait a half a minute until he got off the phone to place my order. It seemed to be a personal call, but I could have been wrong. I have yet to see Big Sammy himself, but he looks like the kind of guy you want to order with; really happy-go-lucky and funny. I will definitely return because I don’t know of any other places in the area to get a hot dog at a somewhat late hour and I am in this area a lot. Oh, and for the mac-n-cheese bites and sweet potato fries. And for the cheese logs, too. Sometimes when I drive by, I get cravings for the food! Wish this place was closer to my house.

The best word to describe Big Sammy’s is ‘consistent’. I have been to two of Big Sammy’s locations. One on Meacham and one on Biesterfield. Service has always been good. The locations, inside, are not very big so if you go during lunch hour — be prepared to maybe have to take your food and run. It’s a basic Chicago food joint so there really isn’t much out of the ordinary. The gyros here are very good. They are also very large. Be prepared to be stuffed for the rest of the day if you eat an entire one. All that said, here’s the best food there: 1) Gyro 2) Burgers 3) Tater tots 4) Wings 5) Hot Dogs 6) Sweet potato fries 7) Pulled Pork Sandwich What I didn’t care for: The chili dog. The chili was mediocre. Bland. So if you just need a chicago food fix, this is a good place to try.
