Alright, so I’m doing a three for one update. I’m sticking to my guns on 2 stars. In the three times since my original review I’ve had: Their«famous» chicken teriyaki. It was served with the same pork gyoza, a couple pieces of tempura vegetables, and a single piece of fried California roll, and a mountain of purple rice. The fried roll was still OK at best. The tempura veggies were better than the California roll, but not by miles. The rice was fine, sticky rice. The chicken itself was alright, but when I got it there was a mountain of sesame seeds on top which was kind of a turn off. I don’t remember what was paid for this. The bibimbap had everything that a bibimbap should have, but the meat and egg that should have been cooled down wasn’t, and instead you wound up with a bowl of oddly cold and warm veggies and meat served with a bowl of miso soup. The sauce served with this was sweet and strange, but not particularly bad. I don’t remember what I paid for this. Today I got the chicken katsu(there is also a fish katsu option), Disclaimer: this is the exact same meal as the chicken teriyaki, but the chicken has a dry rub seasoning on it and is cooked longer. That being said, while the sides were completely identical, except this one was also served with a salad that had a house dressing on it, the chicken itself was much tastier. The house dressing was something like BigMac special sauce with some soy in it. The chicken is a little on the salty side, but enjoyable. It wasn’t a typical breaded«katsu» dish, but it wasn’t bad at all. This cost ~*$ 15.53*~. –Final Takeaway– *The food is bad to OK and always manages to be served at an awkward lukewarm temperature. *There are better places to get /every single meal/I’ve tried here within a 10 minute drive. *The prices are high, and the«drink included» winds up being an extra $ 1 – 2 if you don’t get water or a can of soda. *The portions are large, but the wait can be a bit on the long side too, despite only having a couple/few people in the joint each time I’ve been.

The food was decent. Not bad at all, good deal for the price. That’s the only reason they got 2 stars instead of one. The reason I’m so mad is… I ordered combo 7. Confirmed combo 7. Confirmed combo 7. They gave me combo 1. Realizing the language barrier and not feeling like making a stink, I took it and left. Oh well

Every time I’m in the area, I always stop by this mom and pop shop. I call this place a hidden gem. The lady at the counter is always friendly and greets me with a smile. It may not be a fancy restaurant, but I’m a fan of their healthy menu. I usually get Hwedup bop(assorted fish and fresh vegetable over rice). It’s a hearty portion and I usually can’t finish it. Sometimes I’ll get the Hawaiian rolls with miso soup, or my other favorite dish is their famous Chicken Teriyaki. By the way, their home made Teriyaki sauce is AMAZING. I have yet to find another restaurant with better Chicken teriyaki. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a try.

I ordered a dragon roll, owner recommended getting a pre-made at lunch roll with 20% discount. Regular price for dragon roll is $ 15.95. I tried one piece, it turned out to be inedible. I have tried sushi in many places before, but this one was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Rice was old, eel tasted dry and not fresh, and the rest of the ingredients had no taste to it. This is a place that resembles a fast food diner, yet they charge the same price as great quality sushi restaurants do. Definitely not worth wasting your money on tasteless old food. Staff is less than customer friendly too. I have not tried anything else from this place, and never would.

Sushi Today was almost a middle of the road experience for me. Note the almost. Positive Points: 1. They are located in a strip mall with easy access and parking. 2. The woman at the counter was friendly. 3. Black rice is healthier for me than white rice and it was tasty. 4. They seem to have a lot of options. Not So Positive Points: 1. The spicy chicken teriyaki(which they are known for?) was so spicy that I could still feel it and taste it 8+ hours later. 2. The chicken was not identifiable as white or dark meat. I prefer white meat and I don’t know if that’s even an option. 3. The salad was packed in the same to-go box as my hot food so it was wilty and gross by the time I got back to the office. 4. The atmosphere is kinda blah. There were maybe four people eating when I stopped in mid-week at 12:45pm. 5. It was pricy. My lunch somehow was almost $ 12. This included a can of soda, but there was not an itemized receipt so I have no idea on the breakdown. For a $ 12 carry out lunch without anything fancy or fun, I’d expect really quality products. I wasn’t impressed. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I don’t know that I will go back.

Just not very flavorful, Place didn’t look very clean. A work friend said it was close so decided to give it a shot. Was offered pre made sushi when I walked in. If I wanted that I would have gone to Jewel. 4 peice of tuna Nigiri and Shrimp tempura roll cost me $ 20. Just not very impressed. Roll was very bland nothing special… Probably won’t go back.

I work right around the corner from this little Japanese oasis and since I was craving some sushi, I thought I would try it out. A small, carry-out styled place I didn’t expect anything major when I walked in. Directly in front of you as you walk in is the Sushi cooler. They have several different types and they all look delicious. I opted for the Hawaiian Roll and the one I selected was a nice healthy portion! The clerk came over to assist me with my selection and thoroughly explained what was in each roll. She also offered me everything else in the store from Miso soup to egg rolls! I didn’t mind this as she really just seemed to be very friendly. The place was clean and well kept and although the sushi didn’t completely blow me away, it was still tasty. Since I work only 5 minutes away I can say that I’ll definitely be back to try the other varieties. Glad I found this place! Great place for sushi on-the-go!

I went here because I was trying to eat healthy instead of going to Portillos for lunch. I got the spicy tuna roll. It was a decent price $ 10 for 8 rolls. However; it was very very cold when I received it since she reached in the refridgerator to get it. I’m more of a fan of people making my food fresh then finding out it could have been sitting for awhile. Anyway… it was not very flavorful. The tuna didn’t seem very high quality, so I put some wasabi on the roll. The wasabi is so flavorless — I put a giant mound of wasabi on my roll and still could barely get heat. I am a whimp with wasabi, I typically only put a small amount on sushi — but i caked it on my roll to give it flavor. I learned my lesson, I’ve been to this place too many times and never have been satisfied. I will not return.

Good, inexpensive sushi, with friendly staff. Great spot for lunch on the go.

Cheap, fair sushi, friendly service. A small storefront in a tiny strip mall surrounded by industrial parks. What else is there to say? It’s ok and it’s the only game in town if your looking for sushi.

I love stopping by here for lunch during the week. Their Bibimbop is very tasty and affordable. It’s not the traditional kind of bibimbop, but I love the fresh tasting ingredients that they use which includes red cabbage, lettuce, and cucumber.

I had to stop by here, on my way back to work the other day, just to check it out. Also, I was dying for a healthy lunch(that doesn’t make much sense, actually) and figured sushi would be a great option. The staff were really nice and service was quick because I went in at about 10:30 or 11. The sushi was pretty average. It wasn’t terrible but nothing to write home about. I just got one of the combo meals with a few pieces of sushi and some rolls. I would go back when I’m pinched for time but I’m not sure I would go out of my way to seek it out again!

Not a good place to go for Sushi, but a decent place to get Korean Ramen Soup or Korean BimBimBop. Can’t complain on the prices, cheaper than normal Sushi. I crave the soup daily, wished I worked in the area like I used to so I could have it atleast a few times a month.

The cashier lady is extremely friendly. She greets you hi and bye. =) The food is so-so. The service is decently fast for a Japanese take-out/fast food sort of place. Went here during lunch and it was pleasantly busy. You have quite a few options to choose from between lunch combos and sushi rolls. I ended up getting combo #2 Udon with a 4 pieces of California roll, tempura, and a drink. I enjoyed my Udon because of the shitake mushrooms they use a little bit bland though, I do wish they add more vegetables or possibly a whole egg instead of a slice. I receive pork gyozas and fried California roll instead of of tempura. Bummer, was looking forward to sweet potato and some green beans. The pork gyozas were definitely not fresh and the fried California roll was very unexpected. My 4 pieces of California roll had too much vinegar to the rice and you can taste it when you ate the sushi *bleck* I won’t be working in the area anymore so I won’t be back, but if I ever am maybe, just maybe, I’ll give it another try.

I work right in the area, so there isn’t too many alternatives for sushi. Sushi Today is pretty good food at decent prices. It bothers me that the rolls are prepared and packaged for the cooler, but I had no complaints about the freshness so I“m sure it’s more for convenience and speed. I opted for the rainbow roll and the spicy tuna roll, both which were pretty good, not great. I live in Chicago, so this is pretty pedestrian compared to some of those places. I also couln’t help but resist to get some shrimp tempura pieces they had at the counter, which were delicious! Great finger food. Overall, I’d definitely go back… whether it’s for the food or just the lack of sushi restaurants in the Bensenville area. Biggest downside, I ended up spending $ 15+ for lunch.

Went during the first few weeks of opening and have never gone back since. I tried a few different items to give them a chance, but nothing amazed me. I think the worst was when I ordered the Spicy Ramen, which turned out to be from an instant korean ramen packet — I could just make that myself at home for next to nothing. It’s been a while, so if I’m in the area maybe I’ll give them another try… maybe.

I really like this place. Its not the sort of place I would go for dinner but I find myself stopping by for lunch every other week or so. Service: Very good. Its always the same very friendly woman at the counter. Food: Very good considering the price. MUCH better than any grocery store sushi or anything like that. I’m partial to their Eel rolls. I always make sure to get one of those and then whatever else. Every time I go in at lunch time I’ve gotten nothing but very fresh tasting sushi. So yeah its just a tiny little place and is great for lunch. I will continue going there as long as I work in the area.

This review is for everyone who thinks that to get five star sushi you have to book some swanky ‘in’ place downtown that will cost you at least a hundred bucks. Not true. Five star sushi is just around the corner. In a small strip mall in Elk Grove no less. Behind the Mcdonalds. No lie. There is no soft candle light to greet you. There is not a long dark marble bar to rest your elbows on, while you sip saki and wait for your order. There are not lofty curtains to block out the grim gray landscape of Elk Grove. This is just a mom and pop place that was built from hard work, and a desire to bring good food to such a small town. Shoved unceremoniously in a tiny strip mall behind a fast food giant. The spicy shrimp roll and shrimp tempura roll are mouth melting. The california rolls are also very tasty. While they may not look any different from your standard sushi that you’d find at your grocery store, there is a world of difference. All the ingredients are extremely fresh and of the best quality. Also the subtle hint of Japanese cucumber as opposed to its american counter part is also worth noting. So, if you are in the area, take a stop by. Your mouth will thank you.

Skip the greasy fast food joints you typically hit for lunch if you work in the Elk Grove Village/Schaumburg area and head to this mom & pop shop for your sushi, noodle dish and chicken terriyaki fix. It’s not the easiest place to spot, but well worth the trip. If the line gets long, I just grab a pre-assembled box of rolls and head back into the office.
