Delicious food and fun, casual atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation! I recommend the lobster and teriyaki chicken.

We had a great time with my son(10). Enjoyed the food, ambiance and service. It’s very family friendly and entertaining. The perfect neighborhood restaurant you can always have a good time at. We ordered the flaming dragon, tuna steak, hamachi, and some desert of course :-) everything was delicious.

Another suggested place. Will try once and did not find it to my liking. I found the place to be too small to have the hibachi cooking area.

A few weekends ago the hubby and I wanted OZ Korean BBQ in Elk Grove but as always they were packed and the wait time was about two hours so we drove around town looking for something else to try. We saw the sign for Wasabi Japanese Restaurant and decided to give it a try since we’ve never dined here before. We were seated with another group around the grill and our chef was super nice /friendly. We ordered half a dozen oysters on a half shell(came with teriyaki sauce, Sriracha spicy sauce, green onions, fish roe), their Aloha sushi roll(seared ahi roll with spicy sauce & jalapenos, had really good kick), a chicken & shrimp combo, and their steak, scallop, and calamari combo. The food cooked on their grill was average tasting, nothing really made it stand out as far as flavor goes(all I really tasted was salt, pepper, butter, and some teriyaki sauce?) I believe the cooking show and knife work in itself is what makes the experience here exciting. At one point our chef made an exploding onion volcano, cracked a flying egg over his spatula, and even flipped some veggies to land on top of his head. Overall we did have a good time just talking with the other group seated with us and watching the chef work his magic at the grill. We’d probably come back here again once in a long while but for the show of cooking skills only, not necessarily for the food.

Another great dinner at Wasabi. Enjoy the watching our food cooked in front of us and the sushi is fresh and always good.

My wife and I wanted to take her parents to teppanyaki because they had never been before and thought they would enjoy some fancy knife work. A Unilocal search brought us to Wasabi for our enjoyable and fun dinner. The restaurant was easy to find with no worries for parking. We had a 6PM Saturday night reservation and were seated immediately at 5:45 with a grill all to ourselves in the clean and open restaurant. They have six or seven grills with three chefs rotating between them. As long as all three don’t go to a grill all at once, no table should have to wait too long. Service was as sufficient as expected with the server occasionally gone for a few minutes working through the dinner rush. Joe was our chef and he cooked everything very well while performing the usual routine. The in laws and my wife ordered chicken while I had the steak, shrimp, and lobster combo with some cold sake. Entrees are served with salad, soup, vegetables, and your choice of rice. We missed out on some of the rice tricks because we all ordered the steamed rice. I was getting anxious as my steak was cooking fearing that it might be overcooked, but Joe pulled it off at a perfect medium rare. The shrimp and lobster were also cooked well with squeezes of lemon to brighten everything up. Green tea and mango ice cream was for dessert. My meal was plenty for me and I would not have had room for sushi, but maybe for next visit. If you’re not into the teppanyaki song and dance, then this place isn’t for you. But we’re just fine with it and I always prefer watching my food being prepared in front of me.

Decent food. I love that they have a happy hour menu so you can get the same food, same portion for a decent price. I would definately come back.

I sat down for 10 minutes and got no services. I didn’t even get can I bring you some water. This was my first time there and I was disappointed to say the least. I can’t say the food was bad because I didn’t taste it but sitting down for 10 minutes and the waitress does not say hello I will be there was disappointing.

I’m live in Southern California, been there for 11 years and I’m kinda a sushi guru, so-to speak. I come to Sacramento often. As a pilot I travel. My first time to Wasabi and here’s where I stand. FOOD: Good. Well prepared. Contents and display are par. NOTATALL a fan of the closed kitchen and 5′ «sushi bar». SERVICE: Fair: I’ve been in the industry so I KNOW!!! They are a young staff and that’s ok!!! I still tip 20%. THEYAREALLWORKINGHARD! Now onto… MANAGEMENT: I saw NOMANAGEMENT! It is a good sushi spot but just needs some management. I watched a woman in a white coat walk thro twice in the 1.5 hrs I was there. Looked like an owner or definitely management. Said«thank you» as I walked out. It’s a VERYVERYVERYFRIENDLY establishment!!! If managers were more into the overall operation and be more customer oriented I’ll watch you expand 4-fold in the next 6 yrs.

I come here once in a great while and I am never disappointed. Food along with customer service is wonderful and my daughter loves the teppenyaki chef! Especially the fire volcano. I always order a dragon roll with cream cheese just because I love cream cheese in every roll! For dessert, I always get the fried ice cream. When we finished eating, we left outside to wait for my brother in law and my 3 year old said outta nowhere«Mommy he cook so good!» and kids do not lie! Food was wonderful, lol!

I’ve been going here for years and every time the experience grows sadder. First, it’s a Friday night at 7:30 and it’s DEAD. The table next to us was vulgar and doing shots with the table chef(so much for a professional environment. .but if sloppy drunk talent throwing knives and fire is your thing, cool). My daughters scallops we’re pasty white and slimy(Gordon Ramsey would croak) then without notifying us he put teriyaki on the chicken and gave it to someone who is allergic. No where on the menu does it say teriyaki. But the chef lectures how that’s the way it comes. We had to insist on another chicken, only to have that come out from a microwave in, I kid you not, rubber chunks. Called the head chef and he refused to touch it. By this time everyone is done so it’s pointless and the teriyaki victim is now bright red and hot. Confronted the owner? Older lady(mom of head chef) and she begins to defend the menu about the teriyaki, we told her that WASABIISRESPONSIBLEFORTHEERVISIT because of not labeling the menu. She became irrational and as we walked away chased us and grabbed my arm and yanked me back to tell us how its our fault even more. WHAT?! The kicker… we were STILL charged for the disaster plate. We didn’t have time to fight because of the MEDICALEMERGECY it caused. So…food is reheated hash(fried rice with gray vegetables. .so not fresh) steak was good. Chicken comes with teriyaki. even though it’s not disclaimed… calamari was so disgusting. Our waitress was great but for what they charge you should expected a place where yells of F*CK and chefs taking 3 – 4 shots while cooking did not happen. Finally, it’s all YOUR fault if they half ass your order. I hope this place turns around.

As long as I’ve lived in Elk Grove(basically my whole life) I can’t believe I’ve never tried this place out. Read a few reviews and decided to give their happy hour menu a try one day after work. It was just opening when we arrived so it was pretty empty for the most part. Great at atmosphere, great service and the food… so good! I ordered the chicken and shrimp combination plate with the highly recommended garlic fried rice, simply delicious! Enjoyed our chef, although there were only 2 of us at the table he still put on a great show. I’ve definitely discovered a new gem in «The Grove». :)

Fun teppanyaki place with great happy hour(4:30−6:30PM) pricing! Enjoyed the shrimp and vegetable tempura($ 3.50), ahi poke with wonton chips $ 5.50) and steak/shrimp and vegetables dinner combination($ 16.50). Dinners include rice, salad(iceberg with ginger/onion dressing) and soup(beef broth with mushroom and green onion). Substitute fried or garlic rice for $ 1.95 so that you can see all the great egg tossing tricks. Both the soy ginger and sesame sauce are good accompaniments. Menu also features sushi: nigiri, hand rolls, and specialty rolls. Our affable chef showed off his impressive knife skills and his gamut of tricks: flaming volcano, catching eggs and shrimp tails in his toque and pocket, cracking an egg on a spatula edge, etc. Our server was attentive and great with suggestions. Now you can skip Benihana and support a local joint. Wear clothes that you don’t have to dry clean, because the show is great, but the grill and cooking smells can be a less than desired souvenir.

We came here during their«Happy Hour» period for dinner. This place has family style seating. Each family orders their meal and the chef comes out and cooks on the hot grill in the middle of the table. As you first walk in… this place has modern décor. Nice pics on the walls modern lighting. Very clean and inviting. The seating across the chef is more comfy and the view to the chef cooking is best. Lol. The end table seating is more awkward when you have one lefty and righty sitting with less space. Lol. Or if you have a young couple sitting together with that EXTRA lovvvving going on. Lol. Oooooh… to be young again. Either than that… family seating can be fun. We ordered the steak and shrimp dinners and upgraded to the garlic rice. We heard so much about it so we were excited. Our chef was very nice and did a nice show as he cooked our meals. My buddy had the shrimp and a glass of wine. I heard it was DELISH! I had the steak and it was very flavorful. I opted for ice tea. Our rice and veggies were both very flavorful, but after we ate and got in the car… we both noticed our rice was just rice without the garlic. So if our chef put garlic in… he must have given it to the young couple. Lol. Basically…this is a fun place for dinner. Dinner and entertainment! Minus a star for not getting the upgrade we paid for. Next time we’ll ask to move away from our young distraction. Lol. We’ll give it another try later…

Wasabi is probably my favorite teppanyaki place. I usually get the steak and scallop combo. My steak is always cooked perfectly(medium rare) and the garlic fried rice is soooo good. Their soup and dipping sauces are really good too. Also, the chefs here are entertaining and funny. The onion volcano is pretty cool. The owners and wait staff are really nice and friendly too. I think the only down side of this place is that you kinda smell like teppanyaki afterwards but i think that’s unavoidable because they are cooking at your table.

This is my first time trying Hibachi grill, and I was pleasantly surprised. Once you walk in, you get seated at a table with the giant cooking thing. Once everyone at the table orders, the chef will come out and introduce himself. And there goes the demonstration and cooking. I ordered the shrimp and chicken combo with garlic fried rice. I have had the garlic fried rice is delicious here, so I had to try it. They have some garlic butter that they put in everything so if you’re on a diet, don’t come here. If you’re on low sodium diet, don’t come here either. So it looks like they add teriyaki or soy sauce or some sort of sauce to a lot of their dishes, the food is decent. A little bit on the saltier end for me, but the garlic fried rice is good. I didn’t like the soup or salad that comes with the combination. As for my first time here, the sauce bottle slipped out of his hand and it fell over and knock over my food over all me. I thought they handle the situation very professionally. They cleaned it up and made it up to me. I thought the show with the chef was fun since I haven’t been to it. The cost of the price is slightly higher than I would like to pay but if your friends want to come to a hibachi grill, I would recommend this place. It’s a fun atmosphere.

Fun place to eat with friends or on a date! Hibachi is always fun and for Elk Grove locals I think if you haven’t already you’ll grow to love Wasabi! In addition to their hibachi menu, they have quite a big variety of sushi rolls also. Upon entering we were seated quickly on a table with another family. We had been here before so we already had a feel for what we would order. But to our surprise it was happy hour! Awesome deals from 4:30 — 6:30 on appetizers, sushi, and Hibachi! We ordered a sushi roll, sunomono salad, and combo of steak and chicken with an upgrade to garlic fried rice to share. The garlic fried rice is bomb. Must try. We ordered with our waitress and I felt like she forgot about us for a while. The other family on our table got their soup and salad that comes with the combo plates, but we didn’t. They also got their sushi roll they ordered. We waited about fifteen minutes after theirs for ours to come out, and I did ask the waitress how long it would be since we had been waiting for a while. Nonetheless our beginners finally arrived and they were all great. Just as we finished our appetizer our chef arrived and began his magic! The onion volcano is pretty awesome. He did some fancy tricks and played up our food and I gotta say, I knew I came back for a reason. That steak is delicious. And the veggies go really well with the sauces they give you. And seriously, it’s worth the upgrade to the garlic fried rice. Don’t deprive yourself of it. Because of the hiccup in service Wasabi lost one star during our last visit. Needless to say, I will definitely be back and I’m sure they’ll earn their last star back!
