Shrimp tacos, best I ever had. Someone else said that before me. Seafood Enchiladas are excellent, almost as good as Rivera’s, not as spicy. Margaritas at $ 5.95 are very very good. Maybe the best I ever had there too, after the 3rd one. Chips good, order mild salsa, regular salsa is a bit too chiplotle-y. This place has been open a year and I can’t believe we haven’t been there before. We’ll be back! They cleaned it up a lot since it was the old Heartland Café and its smaller and the brick walls make it trendy. Service is great, too, very attentive & friendly and fast.

We ate at Maximo ’ s Saturday for lunch and there was one other table. Salsa was way too hot with Chipotle for the kids and chips were bland. Food not impressive and like other reviewers have said the beans were very watery. I don’t need to go back.

Food was terrible. The refried beans were runny and served in a cup. I had tacos asada and just meat and cilantro was in them. The cheese enchilada had drops of cheese on it and a white creamy sauce… not good. They also charge 99 cents for a refill of salsa which comes in a very small bowl. I took a neighbor with hopes that this would be a good place for Mexican food. She felt the same as I… what a big disappointment.

My wife and I went here for lunch. Wait staff was pleasant. We were given chips and salsa, and were given the choice of hot or mild. We chose the hot, but I wish they would just bring both out to try. My wife ordered a mango margarita, which she said was good. We were sitting outside and actually had to move inside due to the amount of bees that her drink attracted to our table! We ordered the nachos and three different styles of tacos to share together. The nachos, like most, arrived on a huge platter. They gave us the choice of corn, flour or a mix of both for the chips. We chose the mix, but the flour ones were useless, as they soaked up any moisture and dissolved quickly. I would get all corn in the future! There were a good amount of toppings, more toppings than chips, which is good, in my opinion. We couldn’t finish the entire plate. The tacos were all dressed differently, which was nice. The shrimp and chicken were okay, not a lot of flavor. As usual with Mexican, it was the pork that had the most zing. And we had to fight over who got to finish that one. It’s close to our house and I’m sure I’ll be back at some point. However, it’s the restaurant that made me question whether or not I even really like Mexican food. I always think to myself, «I like Mexican food. That sounds good.» But then afterward, I struggle to remember any Mexican place I’ve been to in my life where I had a memorable meal. In the end, they all run together for me. This place epitomizes that kind of meal. Decent food, but it tastes just like any other place I’ve been to. Ultimately, just average.

Maximo’s was excellent — super fresh ingredients — service was attentive. Food was brought out a bit unevenly, but that was quickly forgiven once we tasted our entrees. Very authentic and very much thankfully not Tex-Mex. Order the fish tacos, white queso and a margarita — you won’t be disappointed!

Wow! New favorite place HANDSDOWN! I still love the shrimp tacos from the first time I went. My husband is very fond of the margaritas. ;) The enchilada sauce is delish! I love that they are so sensitive to everyone’s dietary needs. If you are gluten free, no problem. They will make your enchiladas with a corn shell instead of flour! The menu is made to match the modern day lifestyle and the authentic indulgence! Way to go Maximo’s! If you haven’t been there yet… you are truly missing out!

Chips were too salty and not very flavorful. Sauce tasted like tomato paste with more salt. Tacos are nothing to write home about. Margarita was good. Won’t be back.

Service was to fine… chicken quesadilla was bad… Shrimp taco was flavorless and cold. Chicken fajita was boring. Guacamole was fine… We will not be coming back

Great food. The shrimp taco was very flavorful. We were given chips and salsa when we sat down. The salsa had a hint of BBQ along with some heat. The pinto beans were served hot and creamy. There is plenty of use of queso fresco that helps to enhance the flavors. After our meal I was told they have hotter sauce. Tried it and it has great flavor but was not very hot for my pallet. I would caution others as I can stand a LOT of heat. I plan on going again.

Stopped here on a whim. Great outdoor seating and our waitress was amazing. Attentive and fun! Food was fresh and really good and the beer was nice and cold. Definitely some if the best Mexican I’ve had since moving from Phoenix. And my daughter devoured the fried ice cream. Great way to burn an afternoon.

Service was slow… waited a while for food and even longer on refills. I had to flag down the server and ask.

First things first: Way too expensive. With that out of the way: Service my first time here was horrible. Came with my girlfriend and her friend… they were so irritated after the drinks and appetizers that we went next door at 6:15. Happy hour ends at 6pm and the girls ordered drinks at 5:58 to beat the 6pm cutoff and were denied. The second time we came the service was below average. If you are going to offer a special for $ 15 the waitress should know what it is in it and tell you the price. Ours didn’t. I assumed I was getting an average or so Enchilada like the menu. $ 4.50 for a bottle of beer? Outrageous! Premium margarita using Sauza? Really? Maybe you could get away with Jose but you are using Sauza? Wow! This day and age and in America we expect Patron, Cabo Wabo or better in a premium margarita. Queso dip comes in a petri dish, so does the Guacamole, salsa, and pico. When(not if) you run out of the complementary salsa they charge you another $ 1. I don’t get it. Enchiladas are small. Overall, everything is in small portion. Enchiladas are the size of Carlos O’Kelly’s enchiladas. Americans, particularly in Nebraska like to eat a lot of food. And we don’t like to pay a fortune for it, especially mexican food. It is a societal and community expectation here to get good portions at a reasonable price. Good addition to the area and food tastes pretty good but our expectations were not met twice. Maybe 3 stars but it’s not«ok» as captioned by the 3 star Unilocal rating. We have experienced better(2 stars). Service one star maybe. I’m shocked by the better reviews.

Great waitress. Had the white cheese dip it was amazing. The margaritas tastes fresh not like it came from some store bought mix. Will be back.

LOVE Maximo’s! Went there for the first time on a Friday evening and sat on the porch. The food was really really good. I had the mix of enchiladas and my pals had the seafood special that looked great and tasted great according to my pals. The service was friendly and on top of things and Maximo even popped out to say hello. This is on Main Street of Old Elkhorn. A really nice location as well. I’ll be back soon!

I consider myself a huge taco snob– and the shrimp taco was one of the best I’ve ever had. The fish taco was also excellent, but got a little soggy and became hard to eat. The servers are very kind and the atmosphere is laid back and family friendly. I highly recommend!

This is our second time eating at Maximo’s. The first visit was awesome. We had a group of 8 adults. Food and drinks were great, place was packed on a Saturday night. So we came back this evening with our kids. The food was as good as the first time but the service was very, very slow. We had to request things twice, waited way to long to have to ask for refills on chips and drinks, etc. which was very disappointing as we were one of two tables It the restaurant. The waitress seemed to be more into her phone then helping us but food was great so we will be giving it another try.

I would highly recommend the chorizo nachos… the flavors were clean and refreshing. The shredded Beef Enchiladas with red sauce has a bit too much nutmeg for my liking… it has a good kick to it. The plating was perfect and very clean. I usually don’t eat the beans when I order a Mexican dish but these were delicious! The complimentery chips and salsa were decent. The salsa has a smokey taste to it… youre not gonna get chopped onions and tomatoes in your salsa. But the taste was interesting(good). The service was also very pleasant. I will definately be back.

Almost went with a 3 star. Above average and way above the chain places, but cant really say anything special. Tacos were good. Tried three varieties. No carnitas tacos? Chips and salsa marginal and 99c extra for more chips only. Not enough salsa. Enchilada mole sauce had good flavor and nice spice. Nice inside/décor. Service was fine. Rice was a little dry. Tacos $ 2.49. Meals $ 10-$ 14. Nice add to the area.

The fish tacos were excellent and very fresh. They do not have a kids menu yet but they will make mac and cheese for kids that’s also very tasty(homemade-not out of a box). We will be back!
