I love Ubuntu. My fiancé LOVES a strong, dark roast, so we buy the Sumatran. Rich the roaster is very, very nice. He even hosts some cool community events at this spacious, artsy venue. You can watch and learn about the roasting process. The aromas are FABULOUS. He’s very knowledgeable… in part because he only sells organic, fair trade coffee, and so he knows the people he purchases from — it’s a community to community thing. He started very small, and stays very humble. We’ve been his customers for over a year now — it’s the only place we buy coffee.

Amazing coffee! It’s fresh and they take care of the people of the world. Just a clarification that you shouldn’t go here to get your morning latte on the way to work. It’s a bean place.

Super delicious coffee. Fair trade and organic beans sourced from cooperatives around the world. Taste-wise, it’s even better than Blue Bottle. The owners are super nice and welcoming too. Will be buying more from these guys for sure.

I didn’t know what I was missing with my store bought coffee until I went here for a tasting on a Saturday. I now buy all my coffee from these guys!

Really excellent coffee, sourced from coop farmers and roasted right here in Emeryville. Come on Saturdays for tastings. The guy who’s usually there is super friendly, knowledgeable and happy to talk to you about coffee. They have several different origins; I like the Guatemala best, but they also have a really good Ethiopian if that’s your jam. The only bummer is that they’re not open more often or more widely available.
