We were greeted by Tom and his wonderful companion Elvis. The lesson was held at this beautiful lagoon. Tom was exceptional in providing my daughter with a lesson. She had never paddle board before and has been wanting to try it for quite sometime, he and good olé Elvis(woof.woof) both accompanied her during the entire time. It was a drive for us, but so worth the trip! Beautiful day!

My husband and I were first timers… Tom was terrific. Offered lots of tips, coaching, and encouragement! Loved having Elvis along. Tom taught us the basics for being in the lagoon and also shared what we would need to know if we were to venture into open ocean. We will definitely go to the lagoon a few more times before we try that. We love that we can rent boards from Tom so we can continue to practice! Thanks again!

My family and I went to Tom to rent a couple paddle boards the Tuesday after Labor Day weekend. We initially rented from another company for the weekend, but they were closed. Luckily we found Aloha Stand Up and met Tom. We wished we rented from him the entire weekend! We gave him a call when we were about 10 minutes away to see if we were able to rent boards. He met us on the drive way and showed us his collection of boards. There were a variety to choose from. We like the large ones with foam on the out side. He was very friendly and let us drop off the boards at a time we chose. At the other place we had to rush and try to get it back before the stores closes. This time renting from Tom we were able to watch the sun set while out on the water. thanks Tom! We will come back and we have been telling our friends in SD about you

Tom is a stand up guy(pun intended). He was patient with my wife, a first timer, who didn’t want to continue after stepping on the board, experiencing a few wobbles. But with Tom’s assistance, she persevered, paddling along the shoreline, while Tom accompanied her, walking by her side on the sand. Twenty minutes later, my wife had the confidence to paddle the lagoon by herself, all thanks to Tom. We even brought our dog with us, a five year old golden retriever, and as an added bonus, we paddled her as well on the board. Yay! Thanks for the fond memories Tom, and all your help. We really enjoyed ourselves.

My husband and I purchased a deal online for 2 hours of instruction. Once we made the appt we were excited and ready to go. We did have to wait a few extra minutes for tom to get there but it was only a few minutes. But I LOVE paddle boarding now! Tom and Elvis were great teachers! It was very easy and so much fun. Even falling off the board was exciting. I will be buying a board as soon as I can! Thanks Tom!

I hate to do this to a local guy — but dealing with him is fairly impossible and ridiculous. We’d been months back to check out the«shop» and he was nice and very helpful. Every time we’ve been back since(a totaly of 4 more times) he’s never once been there. We even called 10 minutes before we left our house and asked him if he was there today, he responded with«I’m here every day» to which he probably heard me chuckle in the background in response too. 10 minutes later? Not there. I feel bad for the lady whose shop he’s attached too because she or her employers(mostly her) had to leave her shop to come over and help us. She’s super sweet and I love her, but understandably and admittedly she knows nothing about SUPs. I’m curious to see what will happen to him after his Groupon release; we were actually thinking oh maybe he’ll be there since he launched it right at the holiday weekend — but hey! No. We picked our own boards and came back to exchange them several times and not once did we see him or hear from him. We were even considerate enough to return them on time. He may have good deals but I just can’t support someone who won’t even be responsible for his own store.

After long being a Unilocal member, I decided to write my first review. Please note: I purchased a deal via Living Social. I realized this is a small local business and I dislike that I am about to say critical things about it, but I believe that business is still business whether it’s small or big. 1. the number provided 760−213−4133 was quite hard to reach. Almost often, it’s the voice message. I also believe this business is doing real estate service? My husband I thought we reached a wrong number… The one or two times my husband did reach a person, he was able to reserve the board and settle to meet at our agreed time. 2. The day came, my husband and I showed up. This rental is attached to a gallery and some food shop. It’s quite tiny, almost hidden. It was actually some person working at the art gallery who opened the door to the rental place. And to our surprise, no one who worked there was there. So we waited. We called(nobody picked up) and we waited some more… 3. While waiting, I got frustrated, so I went back to our car. Husband came back later also very frustrated to the car and told me he had to have some talk with a person to say that Living Social deal we purchased had no kind of receipt so we had to pay the normal price of the full day rental. But after some few other ppl who purchased the same deal as us show up, the person who refused to let us rent, drop the subject. Very very weird… I mean we did agree to do rental, appointment was made, we showed up with our printed living social deal that had bar code plus the voucher number. Anyways, we were both very frustrated at this point. I believe that about 1 hr passed by from our original agreed appointment. 4. When the person finally agreed to let us rent, he asked if we had anything to carry the huge paddleboard to the water. We got confused. We said we were not notified in any way that we had to carry the board ourselves. He said, you could buy soft rack down the street for 30 $. Otherwise, no renting the boards. Um ok, so we go down the street to purchase soft rack(no choice), and 30 $ soft rack is sold out, so we purchased 50 $ soft rack. By this time, we are angry. We are late for our bbq and felt very sorry to our friends who purchased the Living Social deal. 5. Finally, after showing up, the person was helping out other customer. So we waited. By the way, there is only ONE parking space available in front of the store. So we parked on an adjacent parking lot that belonged to another establishment. So now, it’s been like 1 or 1hr30 min, we were parked. Toll truck came and asked us to get out. We said we are almost done. There are still other parking spaces on that lot. Toll truck guy said we’ve been there way too long, get out or he’ll call police… omg. Stress after stress. I rented paddleboards before in Mission Bay and NEVER did a rental process went this long and this bad! Finally, paddleboard person helped us load the boards, then said to not use this parking lot since it belonged to another establishment. Um hello, you guys only have ONE parking space that was occupied by another car. Could you do good business and maybe suggest WHERETHEHECK we should park instead? WE were there since 10AMANDDIDNOTLEAVETILL somewhere around NOONTO1PM!!! OMG. Suffice to say that we and our friends would NEVER go rent the boards in this establishment. When you agree to the time and date, please show up. When you call the business number, please somebody should be picking it up or at least RETURN calls. When the owner made deals with Living Social, do let your employees let know of it to avoid unnecessary customer service issues. When you’ve got only one parking space, please at least try to be helpful on where we should park and help out carry the boards to the parked car. And please please ppl, you need to carry your own boards on your car.
