Pie is amazing, staff is amazing, and overall experience is fantastic. Try the strawberry rhubarb and real cane sugar soda. SO good!

Sweet or savory pie, this place has got it all. Not sure the going rate for pies since for pies my go to is Marie Calendar, but ever since I ate here, I think of it often. Rhubarb strawberry as suggested by fellow Unilocalers did not disappoint. It’s a bit tart after eating ¾ of the pie by myself, but that’s why it should be a la mode. Ordered the chicken pot pie. I like the little touch of having a rooster on the pie to separate it from the others. Best of all was the crust. Flaky filo dough that crunches and crumble with satisfaction. I love their customer service. I called the store afterwards to ask whether it’s safe to microwave the tin foil holder of each pie and was provided solid information on how to reheat it. Guess they get the reheating question often enough.

The idea is great. Personal pies. I got strawberry rhubarb and my boyfriend got apple with vanilla bean ice cream. It was about $ 2 to add tiny scoop, which wasn’t really worth it. The pies were extremely sweet and difficult to eat without something to drink. We were given cups for water but it was not drinkable. It tasted perfumey. Extremely unappealing. I went back up to the counter to try to buy bottles of water, but they don’t sell any. The décor is neat. The building is in the back of a landscape business, so it felt secluded. We sat outside on a picnic table and it was relaxing. Overall, the pies were too sweet for me and they didn’t have a good filling to crust ratio. It’s a neat place, but I won’t be back.

Looks can be deceiving right? Take me for instance. If you look at my profile and reviews you probably think I lead a really tame existence. You’re thinking, «His idea of a raunchy Friday night is probably coming home from work lighting some vanilla scented candles, take a bubble bath, and listen to Barry Manilow. Probably wears a purple Snuggie too.» Think you know me eh? Hah well I got you futhermucker! I have CINNAMON vanilla candles! So indeed when I was first told we were going to Betty’s Pie Whole I was immediately thinking«this can’t be good.» First, the adolescent boy in me is wondering«Is this the name of a restaurant or a movie title most likely found in an adult entertainment store?» Quick JustineH(shout out) check into Romantix! Then when my wife told me it is sweet and savory pies I’m thinking can’t I just go to Marie Callendar’s or just nuke a Hot Pocket in the microwave? And then I saw the reviews…(awesome ones VinT/ElleN/JackM !). Perhaps I’m the futhermucker? Crust. Screw up the crust and you’re a complete pie-hole. No problem at BPW! Flaky buttery crispy! You could eat just the crust all day. Of course you’d be a gigantic moon-pie so best to get something with filling. Want some protein? May I suggest the Cowpoke. Two scrumptious hand pies(think empanada or Hot Pocket) filled with pulled bbq chicken with red onion and spicy bbq sauce. Oh and dig this, the pie crust is made with cheddar and chipotle. Not feeling bbq? How about you’re in the holiday mood. Get the Thanksgiving Pie. I’m betting you’re going«Oh a turkey pot pie. Hell, I can get that at Costco.» OHNOYOUCAN’T! Turkey. Mashed potato. Green beans. Stuffing. I’m sure L-O-V-E is in the recipe too. Comes with a side of cranberry sauce. Get everything in one bite and you’ll feel so good you may think«Maybe young Jim Levenstein had the right idea in that infamous American Pie scene.» How about some Italian? My kids had a Wee-Ball Pie. A single good sized meatball with marinara and mozzarella. Maybe you’re not a carnivore or perhaps want to make sure you have something green on the table. Try the Eat-Yer-Greens Pie. A creamy mixture of spinach, kale, mushrooms, mozzarella, ricotta, fontina and Parmesan. Sweet tooth bugging you? Well shut it the hell up with the chocolate chip cookie pie. Sadly I was too stuffed to try anything else. And trust me as I looked at the display I definitely want to come back. I see a pecan pie calling my name. Maybe I’ll forgo Barry Manilow next Friday.

Amazing pies. They have a great selection of savory and sweet pies! They have one of the best chicken pot pies I have ever enjoyed. Sooo good. I have tried a few of their sweet pies including the strawberry rhubarb, the berry crumble and the sour cherry. They were all excellent and worth going back for again and again. They have the option of adding a scoop of ice cream to your pie and to that I say«thank you!!!».

Yummy yummy ! Awesome pies ! We came here at 10:30am on Saturday and most of the pies were sold. We had the following, Chicken Pot Pie — big chunks of white breast chicken, needed more sauce, too much herbs Greens Pie — nice savory, almost a quiche with eggs to hold the filling. Mama’s Meatball Pie — different dough like soft pretzel, a lot of cheese, tangy tomato sauce and delicious homemade meatballs. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie — big chunks of rhubarb, very tart, great strawberry flavor.

These pies are amazing! I was just telling my husband I didn’t really like pies but found this place(in lieu of driving to Julian). I love that they have mini pie options so you don’t have to pie a large pie just to try our different flavors. Yesterday, we tried the banana cream pie, opossum pie, Mississippi mud pie, and chocolate cookie pie. All of which were good — particularly the Mississippi mud pie. If you love chocolate like me, you will love this one. I bought a bunch of pies for hom as Encinitas is a drive for me — the girl at the register stated it would probably last at least 2 days in refrigerator but not to freeze them. To warm them up, I set the oven to 350 degrees for about 25 minutes. And just finished trying parts of the strawberry rhubarb and the thanksgiving pie. These 2 are fantastic! They both have classic pie crusts, which were flaky and delicious. The strawberry rhubarb was tangy but sweet and was a nice balance. This is a must! The Thanksgiving pie was also amazing and I don’t have to wait 10 more months until Thanksgiving! It was stuffed with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beans — this is such comfort food! Pies are slightly pricey at $ 6.50−8, but I think they are worth it for how filling they are. But I never thought I would spend upwards of $ 70+ dollars on pies. Gave the apple pie to my brother and he said it was really good. And my son ate the meatball wrapped in pastry/pie dough and he loved it. Snuck a piece and the meatball was moist and flavorful. Note: we came around 5pm and they had a lot of choices left, but then again, it was only Monday.

Maybe more like 3.5, to date. Sadly greeted by butcher-paper covered windows at Elizabethan Desserts, we didn’t mind driving a few extra minutes to this location, with the anticipation of still seeing what we’ve known we love. Having arrived mid-afternoon, they were already out of the large, whole pies we’d considered to take home with us. Instead, we went home with a few of their mini pies: Sour Cherry, Cookie, and Pecan. I was directed to their Sour Cherry pie when asking about the Cherry Lattice(which I absolutely LOVED!) — regretfully and disappointingly, it’s wasn’t the same. The little Cookie pie, as well as the Pecan pie was pretty tasty. We so miss that fabulously flavorful assortment of cupcakes and cookies that Elizabethan Desserts offered. The young staff is very nice, professional, and impressively knowledgeable. Attractive location and plenty of seating.

We stopped by here after going to the Botanic Garden’s «Garden of Lights». It’s a nice place that serves both sweet and savory pies with an assortment of toppings. There are also soups. We tried the French onion soup and a mini pecan pie. The soup was delicious and perfect for the weather. The pie was also good. Definitely interested in trying others. The staff was very friendly, even though we stopped in about 40min before close. They recommended visiting some of the shops around their lot that include weird bird people and plants. We’re definitely going.

This place is simply amazing. Great atmosphere, fantastic staff. Would recommend to anybody who enjoys pie, or even if you don’t if there’s any place that will change your opinion of the food it’s Betty’s Pie Whole.

Yummy! Fun stop after the botanic garden. The soup was better than the pie and there were not too many options for the pies. However, that might be because we came at the end of the day. Overall, happy we came. Also there are some very interesting plants for sale and birds to look at. Well worth the trip!

Easy 5 stars for this place. I saw it on The Profit with Marcus Lemonis so I thought I’d come try it. I have the Thanksgiving pie and it was absolutely amazing. The pie crust is perfection. And the flavors were really really good. Highly recommended!!!

«American Pie Story» A long, long time ago I can still remember how… That pastry used to make me smile. What I’d do when I had the chance Is give each one, a longing glance And stop to enjoy it, for a while. I would eat chicken pie for dinner A slice of apple, am I a sinner? This rustic, country place Is where I would stuff my face. I can’t remember if I cried When I saw it on the TV Guide. Something touched me deep inside– They were bankrupt, ’til CNBC’s «Profit» arrived. So Don’t die, die Miss Betty’s Whole Pie Marcus to the rescue, a man with a tie. And that good ol’ boy, new ovens he’d buy. Singin’ this’ll make us double the pies This’ll bake us double the pies. Can you make the pies we love? Will you change what you’re most proud of If «The Profit» tells you so? Do you believe in rock and roll? Can Marcus save your mortal soul? And can we make ‘em bake, real slow… Well the days of running out of stock Sometimes at 10, or at 5 o’clock. Those memories I’d like to lose… Man, I dig those rhythm and blues. I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck With a pie obsession and a pickup truck. But I knew that I was so in luck The day–«The Profit» arrived. I started singing… Try, try Miss Betty’s Whole Pie Marcus did the rescue, and Betty would cry. That good ol’ boy, new recipes tried. Singin’ now they’re selling double the pies Now they’re selling double the p i e s.

Betty’s Pie Whole just hit my sweet spot! Not necessarily due to the access of sweet pies they have available. I’m actually more of a fan of savory pies and here you can get your own individualized bit of heaven in a foil pan with a crispy and tasty crust, filled with chicken, turkey, or beef, etc… We visited Betty’s Pie Whole while checking out the holiday offerings at Sunshine Gardens on the same property! You order at the counter and will receive a table number with a famous country and western star and food will be delivered to your table. Today we received, #2 Dolly Parton! The husband and I ordered the«Thanksgiving Pies»(fitting for the long weekend)…our pies were stuffed with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beens with a side of chipolte cranberry sauce(best cranberry sauce that’s ever touched my taste buds)! We added a dessert«Cookie Pie»…looks and tastes like a chocolate chip cookie, but in the pie style! Sweet homemade beverages are offered up here in mason jars. The husband had the lemonade and I enjoyed the sweet peach tea. We are so happy that we don’t have to travel to LA(unless we are already in LA) to have a sweet and savory pie experience in one place! We used to travel just to eat at the Pie Hole in LA! We look forward to bringing friends and family to Betty’s Pie Whole when they are visiting… it’s truly a down home Southern California experience! Pet friendly too! #SweetandSavory #HolidaySpirit #PieintheSky

This is rating the way they handle calls. I’m a would be first time customer but not anymore. I rarely go out in public so rousing myself to go to a bakery in a neighborhood I’ve never been to before for PIE is a big deal in my small agoraphobic world. After reading the positive reviews, I decided I’d go to this place either today or tomorrow and pick up 4 whole pies for Thanksgiving for the family get-together. Yeah … We can eat. I checked their Website which said to call them ahead to hold pies that I could pick up later. I’m like okay, I read up on their menu and what’s they have as seasonal. Whichever of those pies are already made, I can just reserve for pick up, right? I called and I tried to ask if I could place an order to have some pies held so I could pick them up when I get out of work. I was basically denied. No, you can’t place a hold order, no they don’t know what pies they have available. No you can’t just walk in today while the sun is out, you can only approach near closing time 8pm in the dark and select whatever pie is left. And they made it sound like I’d be picking through crumbs like a pie crackhead. Umm, okay. I guess I can’t get any pies if I didn’t call them on the day they were taking Thanksgiving orders? I just found out about them Sunday, so oh well. As I’m not familiar with this business, I’m just going to assume they’re doing well and don’t need my patronage. Guess the family is eating flan and marshmallows this year. :P

A family friend in Del Mar recommended Betty’s Pie Whole. My grandma is named Betty, so we felt it was destiny to take her here for her birthday! My first thought on arriving to the property: how does such an open and rustic space exist in Encinitas?! When I stepped inside the actual restaurant, I felt like I was transported back to Pinehurst, North Carolina. After taking a look at the chalkboard menu, we ordered some Grandma Lucy’s Chicken pies(free-range chicken, baby carrots, peas, parmesan herb crust) and Boyd’s Break-The-Fast pies(eggs, potato, turkey bacon, smoked poultry sausage, cheddar cheese, biscuit crust). For dessert we got a Peanut Butta’ Pie, Apple Crumbly Pie, and Betty’s Berry Crumble Pie. All pies were the individual size. It was so relaxing sitting at a hardwood table in hardwood chairs and sipping on the tasty sweet peach tea while our order was cooked up. Once the pies arrived, I knew we were in for a special treat! Chicken pot pies are one of my favorite foods and the Betty’s version quickly claimed my top spot! The seasonings they put in the crust take the flavor to another level and is something I had never seen before. In addition, the ingredients inside were cooked perfectly and complimented each other well. My favorite dessert pie was the Peanut Butta’ and my mouth was tingling with every bite. Overall, I highly recommend you check out Betty’s Pie Whole for a unique and fun culinary escape in coastal San Diego.

Okay, for starters, you just have to love the name of this place! I saw the reviews and decided to check it out for myself. Simply put, you needn’t ever go to another place for a pie ever again! This is the ONLY place you should get your pies and if more people knew about Betty’s, you would save a long drive out to Julian :) They are located in a very small shopping center and has a rustic feel to it. When you walk in, there are some pies on display and a large menu to choose from either pies for a meal such as chicken pot pie and breakfast pies. But I was here to satisfy a craving for something sweet and let’s just say that craving was more than satisfied. For the sweet pies, they have whole pies and individual pies. I wanted to try a sampling so I got their Apple Crumbly Pie, the Berry Crumbly Pie and Betty’s signature Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. Without question, the Apple Crumbly Pie is better than anything I’ve had up in Julian! The crusts for these pies are so fresh, I would have thought they were making the crust while I was there. The taste was so incredible, we didn’t even bother to heat it up or top with any ice cream. I will absolutely return to get a whole pie and try a slice heated with a scoop of ice cream. The Berry Crumbly pie was equally as good. I love berry pies and this is a mixture. The Strawberry Rhubarb is spectacular! Again, the fresh crust that tastes like it was made fresh while you are waiting. The pies were ready as I ordered them, but they had to have been made that day because of the freshness. I’m looking forward to going back; I want to try the chicken pot pie but for the sweet, I have to try their«pe-can» pie and their mud pie. And I can’t wait until October when they start selling Pumpkin Pie! If you want something sweet and incredibly fresh like you made it yourself, you have to come and try Betty’s Pie Whole(and get a laugh at the name).

3.5 Stars. Liked it, didn’t love it. I really, really want to like, heck love, BPW. I’m a long time fan of Elizabethan Desserts and have heard nothing but rave reviews from friends. Maybe my expectations were too high. The ordering process is weird. They have a huge menu posted with all their sweet and savory pies. So many look amazing that it was hard to make a choice. Once I did, I found out they were out of one and was then told that they only have the pies available that were in the cooler box behind me. Kinda confusing — A huge menu of goods, but only 5 available that evening. I feel like they should have check boxes on a chalkboard menu or an interchangeable menu posted or something because it was disappointing to get excited about something, only to not be able to get it. Definitely think it would be best to come in for lunch, not dinner, when hopefully they have more of the menu available. And we were in 2 hours before closing. My order: cow poke, 2 wee-balls, grandma Lucy’s chicken pie, cookie pie, mini strawberry rhubarb. Cow poke: Handpie with shredded chicken, red onions, BBQ sauce in a chipotle cheddar pastry. Pastry was good & spicy, chicken was tender and flavorful but there was no onions OR bbq sauce. Just filled with chicken cooked in bbq sauce. I wanted it to be more gooey, but instead of was just kind of plain. wee-ball: mini meatball pie. For the kids. One meatball, little bit of marinara, wrapped in pastry. The flavor of everything was good, but again, just wish there was more stuff — sauce and cheese — inside. Chicken pie: good old chicken pot pie. This was my favorite of the savory pies. The pastry was very flavorful and flaky. Veggies inside were al dente and chicken had good flavor, too. Sauce was good. Cookie pie: a gooey chocolate chip cookie baked into a pie crust. Giant chocolate chips. Very rich and delicious. My sister in law was with me and got 3 different pies and liked this one the best of everything she tried. Mini strawberry rhubarb: this was my favorite of the whole order. The crust was more cake-like and crumby with sugar topping and was yummy. The filling was a perfect balance of tart and sweet. Very good! Love the concept, love the rustic décor, but thought the food was good, not great. Probably won’t be going back, but glad I tried it once.

This place is awesome and delicious all rolled into one neat little package. The food here is absolutely amazing, I mean very very solid taste and presentation. The location itself is a bit on the rustic side but has some old school charm to it that will make you want to come back over and over again. Came mid afternoon on a Rainy Saturday and was a bit disappointed with the inventory levels, pretty much sold out of everything on the menu, not sure how exactly they’ll make it to 8pm with inventory levels this low. Nevertheless, I ordered a bowl of chili, meatball pie and a small pecan pie. All of the food was absolutely delicious and the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Overall, this place is highly recommended, but I would highly advise going here earlier in the am for the best selection. Pros– Food Pies Selection Location Service Charm Cons– Limited selection late Sour peach tea

Shut your Pie Hole! Or maybe open up so you taste their goodies then shut your pie hole because eating with your pie hole open is rude! I came here with a friend as her and since we’ve never been here before, we decided to scope out some local grub! So glad we did! Perfectly located next to a nursery with a bird cage so you can watch the little birdies while you wait for your pie to warm up. I love how homey and tranquil this place is and is wonderful for all ages! We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, Lil Kielbasy Pie, Coconut Cream Pie, Banana Crean Pie, and Berry Crumble Pie along with their Peach Sweet Tea! The savory pies were perfectly savory and had so much flavor! I loved the Chicken Pot Pie the most and while I make a pretty mean Chicken Pot Pie myself this one was definitely better! What I tend to find with the crusts at the bottom of the pies is they get soggy and doesn’t get thoroughly cooked, but the crust was cooked to perfection! Normally places emphasize on what goes into the pies, but they definitely perfected the crust as well! Out of all the pies, the sweet Berry Crumble was my favorite, but MAN it was sweet! Perfect for those sweet tooth enthusiasts, but you don’t have to feel too guilty about indulging in the whole pie because these are individual pies! OMG! The Peach Sweet Tea! They don’t have too much variety when it comes to drinks, but who needs variety when they have perfected«their» drink! Downside is no free refills, which is the biggest bummer, but it’s like liquid crack and I can definitely see me drinking a whole bucket of this on a hot summer day! Yes get yourself a glass of this stuff and you’ll see what I’m saying! If you’re catering a dinner party or want to order a few pies for an event, call ahead even if it’s a day in advance because they tend to sell out pretty fast on the weekends. So go ahead and go to Betty’s Pie Whole so you can stuff your Pie Hole!
