Makoto sushi is the best sushi restaurant in Encino. Great/fresh sushi, original recipes, amazing service, and friendly staff. Not to mention, their prices are extremely fair. They are also open until midnight, which is another plus. Try their snapper with yuzu, yellowtail carpaccio, albacore sushi, miso yaki, and uni. Great food and great people at Makoto.

Came 2 hrs before closing and I ordered the 421 roll which has seared tuna and shrimp tempura. Wouldn’t you think these items go fast? I got my roll almost 30 min later. Really upsetting to wait for sushi for that long. it was really good. or was I just really hungry? Probably won’t be coming back :/

great place to go if you want a unique sushi experience. The ambiance is casual/friendly. We went on a Saturday night last minute without a reservation. The sushi is very creative. I loved the pendejo. Prices are reasonable and the service is great. My only complaint is that on some of the rolls they used too much sauce. would definitely go back.

The major draw is their late hours. The crowd is there to drink. Service is attentive, they try hard. If I go back it would not be for the food.

Let me start by saying that I eat a lot of sushi and I’m more than a little picky about where I eat it at. I tend to visit the same few spots regularly because I know what I can expect. However, since Makoto is walking distance from my place I decided to give it a try. This is now my new favorite spot and I think I’ve been there 3 times in the last week or so haha. The food is fresh and delicious! I also really admired the presentation of the various dishes I ordered. The chef’s Tim and Todd were super friendly and tossed back a few shots of sake with me. I can’t say much about the experience if you sit at a table, but I had a blast at the sushi bar and continue to enjoy each visit. I have had each of the following and would absolutely recommend any of them: — Catarpillar roll — Salmon, Albacore, Yellowtail and Fresh Water Eel Sushi — Spicy Salmon Hand Roll — Tuna Poke

Nothing«bad» but nothing spectacular. Restaurant was clean and people were polite. The sushi was good, a few unique ones too but not a place I’d choose over another.

I have an amazing best friend who has an amazing taste and when she introduced me to this place I fell in love and knew exactly why I trust her. The sushi was fresh and the dynamite roll is cooked in a sea shell yes sea shell. It was mouth watering good and I will make it a point to come back again

2 stars for friendliness and good sake. Let me start off by saying that I have tried quite a few sushi places in the valley and I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews! I always start off at every sushi place with a spicy tuna and salmon skin hand roll along with some ponzu sauce. I believe these basic rolls will usually tell me if I will like everything else from any sushi bar and sure enough, as soon as I tasted the spicy tuna I knew there was something wrong. The tuna was plain and tasteless and not fresh. The ponzu sauce tasted like lemonade. I did however like the presentation of how they served my roll(photo below). After this roll I was afraid to order my salmon skin hand roll so I skipped it. The sushi was just not good, it did not taste fresh and the flavors were bland. One of the tempura rolls we ordered tasted like canned tuna. We actually did something we have never done before, we were so grossed out that we just finished our rolls we had already ordered and paid our bill and went to a different sushi bar. If you want some good sushi in the valley do yourself a favor and go to either So Sushi or Niko Sushi. This is really a shame since we really wanted to like this place since they open till late and we often crave sushi at late hours during the weekend.

One of the best sushi places I’ve been to! Great rolls, reasonably priced, and the best part — they’re open ’til midnight! However, I think they’re closed on Sundays so just make sure to call first before heading over. The staff is also very friendly. Love this place!

They serve CANNEDTUNA!!! The most digusting sushi Ive ever had in the valley and probably ever… How in the world does this place have 4.5 stars??? The workers arent even japanese… how can you trust that they know anything about traditional sushi? They are chinese perhaps? Stay far away unless you like eating canned tuna and old fish

Good place to curb your sushi fix! I enjoyed the food but pricing was a bit confusing. We wanted uni sushi and asked what the market price was. Waitress first said $ 9 then came back and said it was $ 11. That felt kinda shady to me. Still ordered it and it was fresh. We also ordered the chirashi, baked mussels, and two speciality rolls. They have numerical names for the rolls so I do not recall what it was. One has scallops and the other has shrimp tempura. Both were tasty. The presentation could be better but again, this is a very causal sushi restaurant.

Was craving some sushi and they are in the neighborhood. Problem is their appetizer menu is way my expansive then their special roll menu. Friendly staff but might have to look for another local fish hole

Nice little hole in the wall on the corner of Zelzah and Ventura. Staff were extremely friendly! Place was kept clean and food was served immediately. AMBIANCE: Bar seating and a row of tables that seats about 4 people. The place is very small. IT is very casual but maintains the Japanese interior design. FOOD: Their sushi was delicious. The sushi tasted fresh and I was satisfied with what I ordered. I ordered the 4 – 20 roll which according to my husband is now one of his top 5 favorite rolls. We also ordered the whole fried flounder fish. It was flavored well but the fish kind of crumbled up when broken which means it must have been kept in the freezer then cooked(not as fresh as the other items we ordered that day). I also left with an itchy throat. I think one of the sauces or the lemon water irritated my throat. I was find the next day. Overall, a good place to grab your fix of sushi.

This place is pretty good. A very small place, but it’s extremely presentable and clean. Their customer service is great too. As for their sushi — very yummy and fresh. There ceviche is also VERY tasty(try it out!!).

I think I have found theeeeeeee gold mine in the valley and I’m not letting go … Came here on a date night and This place rocks … Friendly staff and the service is just exceptional. The food melts in your mouth. They are a bit heavy on the sauces so next time I will ask them to go easy on it but it’s sooooo good. We ordered the baked mussels, 423, bsc, blcr, white ninja, hanabi, and each one was just better than the other . Did I mention the service was great? Yes yes yes will be here again soon I already feel like it’s my spot …
