I visited Tea With Tina with three friends yesterday. The tea room is located in a brick bungalow in a quiet neighborhood in Englewood. The afternoon tea, which is served at 2:00 costs $ 15.75 per person at the time of this review. You must make reservations in advance if you want the afternoon tea, but they also have a regular menu. Wow, the food. First we ate scones with clotted cream and two kinds of jam, assorted fruit, and Ritz crackers with herbed cream cheese. Then we had soup(the choices today were chicken noodle or matzo ball). Both were delicious and tasted homemade. Then we had little tea sandwiches: cajun shrimp, bacon-wrapped phyllo crescents with a cheese filling, goat cheese and sundried tomato, rustic chicken salad, sliced ham with onion relish, and – of course – cucumber. All were well-made and nicely presented. But it didn’t end there. The final course consisted of a dessert plate with(I don’t know the official name) a raspberry cake roll – soooo good – , a mini chocolate éclair, and a cute little«mouse» made from a chocolate-dipped cherry for the body/tail, a chocolate kiss for the head, sliced almonds for the ears, and little red icing eyes. Each of us received our own small pots of tea, which I liked because(1) I didn’t have to worry about taking too much,(2) I was able to finish the pot before it got cold, and(3) I got free refills. We rolled out two hours later absolutely stuffed and very happy. What a great place to sit and talk with friends! This is the fourth tea room this group has visited since January, and it rates very high on the list, mostly because of the variety, quality, and amount of food you get for the price. Service was good too, but we were there on a Thursday afternoon, and it wasn’t busy so we got lots of attention. If you’re a guy, you would probably like this tea room because you really do get a lot of food compared to other tea rooms. I took home some of the fruit, two scones, five sandwiches, and the chocolate mouse to my 14-year-old son, who proclaimed everything«very excellent» and wants to go. My only complaints were no sugar cubes or real cream, but this isn’t enough to bring the rating down an entire star, at least for me.
