Myself and a small group had a Groupon for a tour, wine tasting and platter at Sand Castle Winery over the summer. The area of this winery is beautiful and the landscaping is really scenic. The tour I thought was just okay, we didn’t go through the vineyards because it was during the off season, but we got to see where they made and stored the wine. The tasting was actually pretty fun, a little odd, but fun. There were about 25 people doing the tasting all together and we lined up across from each other at a long table while standing. The man speaking about the wines had a thick Italian accent and was standing on a ladder while speaking(so he was taller than all of us), hence it being a little odd. But the wines were all pretty good, served with different types of snacks that they paired well with. After the tasting we sat outside at a patio under a tent with our cheese, cracker and meat platter. The platter was average, but the scenery and weather made it great.

I purchased 2 tickets to a recent bonfire wine tasting bbq. I received an e-mail confirming the purchase and the next day received another e mail stating that the tickets had been mailed to my home address. This was all a month before the actual event. Two weeks prior to the event, I still had not received the tickets so I contacted them by e mail 3 times and called and left messages 2 times. My friend was also trying to contact the winery by phone, no one ever answers, just recordings. No one returned my calls nor answered my e-mails,. I finally called my credit card company and they removed the charges. Very poor way to treat customers,

I have to admit, I didn’t have high expectations when visiting a local winery. But… This winery is the bees knees! My only two complaints is A) Why haven’t I been here before? and B) Who the hell is doing their marketing, and why haven’t I heard of this place!?! I went to Napa, I went to Italy, I went to France. I’m not a stranger to great wine. We did the 12 wine tasting accompanied by a tour and cheese/meet plate. The wine was complex but pure. It was prefectly balanced. Not too sweet, not overly dry. A great experience! The tour was short but informative. They grow all their own grapes and do not outsource. The land is beautiful. Isolated on a sunny hilltop above a river. Perfect drainage and wind for perfect grapes.(Jersey and Pennsylvania is very humid, terrible for wine grapes and disease.) This place is not the case. It was fall when we went and so picturesque! Check their website, they host all kind of events.(Great place for a tent wedding.)

A interesting and light hearted vineyard tour. Everyone makes you feel like family! Joseph gave the most entertaining and enjoyable tasting. He is a gem! Now for the wines… Amazing delicious!!! Bought a case! I will return again and again and look forward to checking out some of the upcoming events!

I went to this winery with a friend because of groupon. We were insanely happy with our experience! I highly recommend this winery for tastings

We went to Sandcastle for a tour and tasting on a Groupon. Our experience at the winery was great — lovely spot, nice grounds, and Joseph, who led the tasting, was the consummate host/showman. I would definitely recommend the tour without reservation. What I would not recommend is the wines. During the tasting, you are given a lot of pretty strong tastes — wasabi peas, dark chocolate. And Sandcastle’s wines taste pretty good after you’ve clobbered your taste buds with a mouthful of wasabi. However, once you get back home with your wines and try to eat them with regular food — not so good. For the price, there are much, much better wines to be had. We ended up making a lot of expensive sangria, since that was the only way the wines were palatable.

My girlfriend and I had an awesome afternoon at the winery. The tour was very short but the guide was very knowledgeable. After the tour they took us upstairs for the wine tasting and they told us about the different wines before tasting them. They were as nice as can be. I didn’t know what we signed up for and the other couples in the group were friendly and easy to talk to. The entire experience was fantastic!

I had a Groupon for a tour, wine tasting and platter at Sand Castle. Let me tell you that the location is in a beautiful area and the drive was scenic and peaceful. We were offered a quick tour of the grounds. Our tour guide was professional and knowledgeable. Our tour was followed by 13 wine tastings. The wines were sorted by regions/type of grape. Some wines were accompanied with chocolate and wasabi peas for full palette experience. The wines were well made and I liked most of them. I would recommend this winery for a great day of wine tasting and beautiful views.

Superb wine, excellent atmosphere for tasting. I have enjoyed many a spirit and having visited dozens of wineries both domestic and abroad I must say I not only enjoy the character of the establishment but was amazed at how much I appreciated each wine which was presented to me. Sure most wineries have a couple of good products but rare is it for all of their fare to appeal to me. The Spiced Apple is divine. I highly recommend this Sand Castle whether you prefer sweet or dry, red or white. 5 stars for this place is out of sight.

We had a fun time here this afternoon. Joseph was our tasting host and he did a terrific job. Not surprising since he’s one of the wine makers. Make sure that you do the tour and a tasting to get Joseph. The visitors that only did the tasting don’t get him. We came home with a case of their wines. Nuff said.

This was my first wine tasting and your and I was so impressed! I got the $ 21 groupon for the meats/cheese platter, tasting, souvenir glass and tour! I learned so much from the staff and left with a few bottles of wine! They give you deals by the cases but unfortunately I’m a college student so my budget for wine is not that large! The only thing I wish is that we got to tour more of the actual vineyard! I would love to go back!

We enjoy visiting local wineries so we decided to take advantage of the Groupon deal for this place. It included a tour and cheese/meat platter in addition to the wine tasting($ 21 for 2 people which I thought was a good deal considering all the tastings, plus the tour, souvenir glass and cheese!) The tour wasn’t all that exciting — you basically go into the room where the wine is made and the staff member explained the process. The tasting was a bit different from other tasting rooms I have been to. It was done in a group setting where there must have been close to 30 of us in a room, standing down two long folding tables. Two other staff members came down each line to pour the wine while the staff member leading the tasting stood up on a tall ladder to explain each wine to the group. You get to try 12 different wines. Unlike other tastings, you don’t get a choice in what you try which could be a problem if you only like certain types. There were a number of very sweet and unusual wines included as part of the tasting(which one member of our group really didn’t care for!) Some of the wines were paired with chocolates and wasabi peas during the tasting which I found interesting. I believe the staff member leading the tasting perhaps was the owner or at has at least been involved in the business quite a long time. He was very knowledgeable about his wines and very entertaining at the same time. We had quite a bit of fun during the tasting, but did seem a bit rushed at times(They had to keep to a tight schedule as there was another tour/tasting right after ours!) After the tasting, there were a number of tables both in and outside where you could sit to enjoy your cheese with a glass or bottle of wine. Most of the wines were not to my liking so we did not purchase any to take home, but it was a fun experience overall and a nice afternoon out. There were plenty of people buying cases of wine while we were there so its just a matter of personal preference.

Finally we stopped today at the winery, after so many years seeing their sign from the road! We were surprised of the quality of their wine. The building itself is a little bit show off, but the views splendid! I am proud we were able to support a local business. Their wine are a great idea for casual gifts!!!

I huge fan of the place! The tasting tour was great! The Sangria and Spice wine are to die for! Every summer I make it a point to drive out to Bucks County to visit and restock:) I’ll keep coming again and again!

To begin, the 1 star reviews are not warranted in my opinion. I would say this is about 3.5 stars and close to being 4. The biggest selling point of this winery is that all of the fruit is grown on premises. This can not be said of many other wineries claiming to be local. The grounds it is situated on what can best be described as rolling valleys overlooking the Delaware, much like you would find in some areas of Europe. The interior is spacious and as one reviewer stated, somewhat in need of a redesign, but not enough so to detract from the experience. As for the wine itself, this a complicated issue. Joseph, the winemaker is very much of the European school. These wines are dryer and more acidic than many Americans are used to. They are also aged far longer than any other local wineries. The average vintage for many of the varieties is about 2009, this goes for Chards and Rieslings as well. This wine really needs to be enjoyed with food. I will admit there are a few wines that I did not like at all, mainly because they were the sweeter offerings that many wineries feel their customers want. The port however was good. I also had an issue with one on my bottles of Cab being bad when I opened it. I contacted them and was gladly given another bottle the next time I visited, this new bottle was fine. For people looking to expand their wine knowledge and experiences, I definitely recommend coming for a tasting at Sandcastle(as others pointed out, look for a coupon) Just keep in mind that these are not Cali wines, or Cali wannabes. If you decide to buy any, do so with a good idea of what you can eat with it. On a customer service note, in this department they are great. Joseph and his wife are very personable and love what they do. As a wine lover, I enjoy any conversations I have with him.

Came here thanks to a Living Social deal. The surrounding area and vineyards are beautiful and I would love to come back to experience the fall foliage. We ran a little late for our reservation so we did our tasting first. I enjoyed the chocolate and pairings but I was underwhelmed by the wines. I purchased the Rosé and Pinot Noir. I would absolutely recommend the Alpine Spice warmed as a toasty fall drink. The tour was OK, the tour guide was very well informed but was rather reserved and not very engaging with us. Part of our deal was a cheese and cracker platter which was some hard cheeses and deli meat along with a sleeve of ritz crackers served on styrofoam plates with plastic forks and knives. While I would return to see the surrounding landscape change, I wouldn’t hurry back for the wine.

To be fair, we have no idea where the bottle came from… and never visited the winery. We entertain frequently and can only surmise someone left this as a gift. Served a mustard glazed salmon after a shrimp appetizer and thought«why not, a pinot noir would be light enough to follow the pinot grigio I started with…» So, I opened the bottle. An attractively labeled«Sand Castle Winery Pinot Noir 2009». From the beginning, it tickled my nose… somewhat like a left jab. Then I sipped… and was nailed by the right cross… I refused more but my husband, being both cheap and somewhat masochistic, took 2 sips… and then even he surrendered commenting that it had a distinctive, Robitussin like aftertaste. He needed 16 oz of Coke to get rid of the taste. We’re not very sophisticated wine snobs. We drink what we like. This is junk… and after researching to find out more, we happened upon the earlier post where they poured another fine vintage from the same winery down the drain… and could think of nothing better… so see the picture attached. All I can say is, thank goodness we didn’t pay $ 30 for this swill and are left wondering: did our anonymous guest really think they were giving us a fine gift or did they know how bad it was, pawn it off on us and hope we would never connect it to them? It will remain a mystery…

Had a great time here with the girlfriend! Got to taste 12 different wines all on a $ 6 groupon. Our tour guide was awesome. Only reason for not 5 stars is because the tour wasn’t that long. The tasting was great, all of the wines were very good(not much of a wine aficionado but learned a thing or two!). The alpine spice was awesome. Had to buy a bottle of it. I would definitely recommend checking it out, don’t listen to the poor reviews on here. Check it out for yourself. Won’t be disappointed.

Ok… so, I’ve never been to their winery, but I just poured a bottle of their«Santo Rouge» down the drain in my hotel room after ordering a $ 30 bottle of Mondavi from room service. Without a doubt, this was the most disgusting red wine I’ve ever had. This«red» was a light shade of pink and had an aftertaste of grain alcohol and Worcestershire sauce. I’m not a a super fancy guy and regularly drink $ 10 – 15 bottles. I’m still gagging. Gross. Just gross. Save yourself a tour, buy yourself the cheapest bottle at CVS and save your money to go to NorCal or France… or even Canada.

had a super informative and fun wine tasting/food pairing at sand castle winery, and i would definitely return to do it again– great way to spend an afternoon. the host was friendly, funny, and the session was interactive and overall lovely… definitely recommended! the wines aren’t the greatest i’ve tasted in the area, but they’re not bad either– i left with a few bottles. the tour of the facility was relatively quick but informative. the grounds are gorgeous– definitely a place i’d consider for an event.
