My wife and I pretty much always get the same thing here, we share the Appetizer plate It has 2 Papusa’s, 2 tamales, a few pieces of some sort of poke that is crispy, plantains and some possibly yucca fries? Anyhow, its always good! The staff is friendly and its usually easy to nab a seat or booth here. Plenty of food for 2 people!

This place is LEGIT! Obviously, get the pupusas. No joke. My favorites are the pollo(all white meat chicken breast) and zucchini. The prices are reDONKulously reasonable: $ 2.50-$ 3 per pupusa. I can’t help but order a personal pizza(2 deep dish squares) for $ 3.95… I get really crazy and get pineapple on top(.50 extra.) Let’s talk about the WINE here. It’s $ 14 a bottle for the house. The service has always been stellar; thank you Innocente! The food is delicious, the service is spot-on, and the prices are cheap ass. Yes, I do love you Custcatlan. Oh, and they have $ 6.95 lunch specials that include salad/drink. Eat here!

This is a family owned restaurant that is friendly, cozy, and does a good job with the food. We’ve had the pizza, multiple entrees and love the pupusas. If I lived in the area I would be here more often but whenever time allows I make a stop to this place. Oh I forgot to add the cabbage salad instead of chips or bread comes with your order and it is also well done.

Loved trying this place! I am always a fan of trying new types of food. The two pupusa lunch special was really reasonable. A pupusa is like a folded quesadilla. The waitress also recommended we get the sample platter to try a little bit of everything. We had a group of six and total bill was around $ 70, not bad! I tried the chicken/jalepeno and the lorato pupusas. Apparently lorato is a unique herb, and the waitress was right, really hard to describe, you just have to try it. It was good, definitely a different flavor. They also had a bomb hot sauce on the table for our use. The sampler platter had many things, including plantains, tamale, more pupusa, among other things. The lunch special also included a speciality drink, like horchata, fruit punch etc, which were also good! I tried the passion fruit one. I would definitely go back here if I’m in the area again. Cute little place!

I prefer the Salvadorian food over the pizza here. I had the just cheese pupusa and then the jalapeño with cheese which were tasty however I prefer the one with just cheese. Prices are reasonable for the lunch specials. I had the pupusa special which comes with two pupusas plus a drink. The horchata was too sweet for me.

Cuscatlan is one of the best of its kind, from North of Los Angeles, Los Angeles to San Diego. It offers authentic food from El Salvador. The pupusas or the sampler will take you on a tour of flavors. Specialty tropical drink: ensalada. Pan con Pollo-yum my favorite. Don’t need to go anywhere else! I already did the homework for you! Thank you Cuscatlan for your great foods!

We love Cuscatlan!!! We’ve been eating here since it was at it’s older location off of El Norte in Escondido. My husband lived in El Salvador for two years and was so excited when we found this place. The food is fabulous! He is in his happy place when we go to eat here… like walking down memory lane. You MUST get: Pupusas(cheese, revueltas, jalapeño, or beans and cheese…), platanos fritos(fried plantains)…my husband loves to get the loroco plate from time to time too(el salvadorean flower cooked). Even our kids love this stuff. Make sure and put the red sauce on the pupusas… and the cortido(cabbage-y stuff). We are regulars. Go! You’ll love it.

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to write a review! Delicious food, fair prices, awesome customer service, and did I mention delicious food??? This is family owned and operated. The waitress(I feel awful for not remembering her name) is seriously the sweetest; I don’t know how anyone can possibly have any complaints about her. The first time my boyfriend and I came, she«dumbed down» the menu for us because we’d never had Salvadorian food and didn’t know what we were doing. Came back a year later and she still remembered us and the majority of our order! Our favorites are the papusas, carne guisada and the chan(a sweet red drink). I’ve never had other Salvadorian food elsewhere to compare it to, so I might be a little biased, but it’s so great that we always come back here :)

So I tried the pizza here, it was just OK, but the Papusas are awesome! The service is mostly good here, depending on how busy it is, they are always friendly My Husband and I pretty much always order the same thing now which is the sampler appetizer and we are both stuffed! I recommend trying this place!

Wow I never thought I would find an authentic Salvadoran restaurant in San Diego. North county no less. Wow, being from San Francisco I consider myself a Pupusa snob. This place has the best pupusas south of LA. The plantain was sweet and cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed my meal. The staff was friendly. So I recommend the cheese and the revuelta pupusas. I hope you try this place.

Food was just ok. Service was not hot. Waitress took her time getting our order and just plain ol seemed like we were an inconvenience. Had to get my own water when I realized we were abandoned. The wife had lunch here and said it was good. Maybe it is at lunch. Guess when the sun goes down so does the quality. She heard the pizza was amazing so we tried the pizza and wings. Nothing to write home about, Frank’s red hot wings and a «deep dish». Just meh.

My husband and I were in Escondido one day and had never had Salvadorian food before, so we decided to give it a try. We sampled so many different dishes and even had some Salvadorian beer! We tried: cabbage and salsa served like chips and salsa. The salsa was REALLY flavorful but not spicy(really great for me as I can’t handle spicy!) fried plantains — very similar to bananas, but not our favorites. chicken tamale and pork tamale — both were very tasty but I preferred the chicken chicken and cheese pupusa — I really liked this pupusa de loroco con queso — pupusa with cheese and an edible flower — I wasn’t a super fan of this one, but my husband did like it and would order it again. pasteles — pies fried and stuffed with beef and onions and peas — I LOVED this one! Apparently, it wasn’t a favorite of other people because it was replaced with pasteles de pollo We came back a couple of weeks later and tried the pasteles de pollo and they were also very tasty.

Allen and I needed sustenance to fuel us for the Kizomba/Salsa/Bachata Halloween House Party we were enroute to. Of course I went to my trusty Unilocal App to search restaurants in the area. Once I saw there was a Salvadorean restaurant in the vicinity and with 4+stars no less… I knew we had to stop by! The food and service didn’t disappoint. The food was amazing, the plantains were heaven, the pupusas, pork were tasty and filling. I enjoyed the yucca and pork tamale. Allen gave me a high five for this selection… he does not give them out willy nilly you know !!! I will definitely stop by if I am in Escondido again!

I have eaten at this hidden gem twice and have taken two different groups of people. After ordering the sampler appetizer, my friends and I quickly fell in love with pupusas. I highly recommend getting this plate if it’s your first time to explore some of the delicacies Salvadorian cuisine has to offer. If you’re feeling adventurous, pair it with one of their fruit juices(all very delicious). Will definitely be coming back!

I come here for the Salvadoran food I haven’t tried the pizza yet although I’ve read good things about it. If your not familiar with Salvadoran food I would suggest sharing the sampler platter that way you can try I little bit of everything. However, My personal favorites are the pupusas revueltas and the tamales I also love the traditional salvi beans and this place makes them tasty! Also, If you like horchata you have to try theirs!

Went back here to try the breakfast and I was really happy I did. This was a very unique experience. I got the plantain breakfast platter because last time I come I looooved the plantains. Came with beans, sour cream, and cheese! I was really confused on how to go about eating all the different component but the server was really sweet and explained the traditional way to eat. Super great food and really different breakfast experience!

I found this place due to the high reviews on Unilocal and we needed some food during Cruisin Grand. I had never had a pupusa before so it was nice to try something new. We had the queso con loroco and pollo one. They are quite tasty and a must to get your meal started. The jalapeño poppers were also a good starter. We also had the pesto chicken delight. It was thicker crust pizza and quite filling so we ended up taking half of it home for leftovers. One person at the tables got the grilled chicken salad that looked much better than it was. It was huge packed with ingredients but the lettuce wasn’t very fresh which is quite a damper on the salad! Overall one of the best choices I saw in the Cruisin Grand area onYelp.

Pupusa. Seriously, if you don’t know what it is(and I didn’t), try it. They are wonderful, some kind of South American dish that is pretty great, and they are cheap. The locale is OK, not the nicest building in the city. But so what? The food is good, the prices are right, and they are local. My wife, daughter and I have never had a bad meal or bad experience here. Try them, you will like them.

Came to San Diego for a good time from Los Angeles, was looking through good places to eat food. Found this place at a very pleasant spot in Escondido, I am sure people from the town and nearby cities know this place for their delicious taste and flavor food. I am giving this place five stars, twice. 1+star: The ambiance and rhythmic music 1+star: The attention received by the staff, good CLASSACT. 1+star: The food is tasty and hot. Looks clean and it gets done withing a short time frame, excellent timing for a Latino restaurant. 1+star: The access to place is easy and the location is perfect, good for big families and food for pick up. There is lots going with this spot, people coming in, very spacious and elegant. 1+star: cleanliness on utensils, dishes, glass cups, classy presentation, the bomb of awesomeness. Overall, +5 stars again… the pupusas, la horchata, the salvadorean fresh drinks, arrayan and the Philly cheese stake are phenomenal and to the best flavor. I would recommend people this place and I will definitely come back for great service and attention.

Pupusa’s are legit and for $ 2.75 you can’t go wrong. I was hungry and I wanted to watch a particular game this evening so I decided to go to Cuscatlan. I went because I knew they had a TV and I knew they always played soccer. I called them ahead of time to see if they would make an exception for Game 3 of the Cavs and Warriors. The guy who answered asked me to hold but when he returned he said, ‘yeah we are going to have it on the TV.’ Now it’s not the biggest or the sharpest but I don’t have cable so I was happy just to watch the first and second quarter with dinner. If you’ve never had Pupusa’s then you have to try it once. It’s like a pancake but stuffed with goods. By goods I mean; chicken, cheese, beans, jalapeños, chicharrón(pork), and zucchini. Not all in one but they do have the revueltas, my favorite. The revueltas is spanish for riots but is also an adjective for scrambled, in this context the revueltas are scrambled with pork, beans, and cheese. Pupusa’s come with what I can only describe as Central American cole slaw and a tomato sauce. The tomato sauce is not spicy, more tomatoey and comes in a syrup like dispenser so you can pour on your Pupusa’s. I was feeling adventurous so I had a Pupusa with Loroco. Loroco as I learned is a flower that grows on a vine. Basically making it an herb. It went down well but made me super gassy later. I washed everything down with an Arrayan, a sour guava drink. Can’t say that I like it but the Granadilla was good, a passion fruit drink. The ambiance is quaint and I was psyched that they played Game 3 for me, even though, Warriors lost that night. Warriors came up last night in Cleveland, though. Can’t wait for Game 5, also, try a Pupusa revuelta.

So this restaurant has made some great changes. The best one is the change in location and the name. I came here one day for the pupusas and boy were they good. I havent tried anything else here but the yuca fries and they were ok, nothing to rave about. The ambiance is calm, not too crazy, although they do play some wierd reggaeton music at times, but who cares. I docked a star because service was slow. The waitress wasn’t attentive. We had to get her attention every single time. I would come back tho.

Finally made my way over to Cuscatlan! I’ve been wanting to try this place out ever since I saw their awning advertising Salvadorian cuisine. Because Salvadorian cuisine means pupusas and pupusas are EVERYTHING. A groupon, and a chance passing down Grand, solidified my plans. I went for the six papusas and two beverages deal for $ 13. Parking was fairly easy for being a Friday afternoon. You have to park on the street, but I was able to catch a spot right in front. Upon entrance, I was greeted right away. It was a bit darker inside than to my liking, so I was glad to see outside seating is also an option. Fortunately, the groupon was eligible for carryout, so I ordered the following pupusas to-go: cheese, cheese & jalapeño, cheese & zucchini, beans, and cheese & loroco. And for the two beverages: the«Ensalada»(fruit cocktail drink — sweet beverage w/fresh chunks of mangos, pineapple, cashew fruit) and the Granadilla(passion fruit). Cuscatlan didn’t disappoint! 1) The waitress told me my order would be ready in 15 minutes, I waited less. 2) I had a 30 minute drive before eating, the food was still hot and fresh when I arrived home. 3) Everything was delicious! Surprisingly, pizza and spaghetti are also options on the menu. Tbh this made me a bit wary of the authenticity of the food, but when it comes to the pupusas, no need to worry. I’ll definitely be back just for them! p. s. a bit more about the pupusas & beverages(order came with salsa, sour cream, and a slaw salad): — Though packed with jalapenos, the cheese & jalapeño wasn’t too spicy. Good for my mom, but for those who want an extra kick like me, the addition of hot sauce is the way to go. — The zucchini also comes with pieces of chopped tomato. This was perhaps my third favorite, after the cheese and cheese & jalapeño. — Loroco is an edible vine whose flowers and buds are used in cooking. The pupusa made use of the buds, which can easily be confused for jalapeño due to the similar coloring and chopped pieces. Good thing the waitress labeled the to-go box with what it contained. — The beverages were a bit on the sweet side.

Positives: –good food –good service Negatives: –slightly pricey for lunch Had pupusas and the carne asada lunch special. We used a deal from the entertainment book. It was nice of the waitress to accept the deal. It gave us basically $ 10 off. The lunch deals weren’t bad. It was about $ 10/plate. In terms of taste, it wasn’t anything that special, in my opinion. Pupusas were very good. It was my first time having pupusas but I really liked it. Bottom line: Not bad place to eat. If I have to pay full price, I would say it was just average. Next time I would just get the pupusas.

I had to stop by for a quick meal and found this place on Unilocal. A small, dark sit-down restaurant in the downtown area of Escondido, this place had character written all over it. Unfortunately I was short on time, but the server was extremely accommodating. On her recommendation, I got a pork and a chicken tamale since they were the fastest food. They came wrapped in banana leaves and were pretty good sized for only being like $ 2.50 a pop. The homemade horchata was dope too. Entire bill came out to less than $ 8 and I was full, and in and out of there in like 15 minutes(by my own choice) — it was incredible. Don’t know if I’ll ever be back in the area but if I am, I’d definitely come back here to get a proper meal!
