This place is a gem, and I’m hesitant to expose it to the Unilocal world because I want to keep it to myself. But because the only other review is so negative, I’ll offer my two cents. My family has been staying in these cabins every August for the last 25 years. The location is beautiful. The land was grandfathered into the national park, so you are literally surrounded by RMNP. The cabins are secluded in the pines, and it is delightfully quiet compared to nearby options in Estes. If you are looking for nightlife and luxury, this is not your place. If you are looking for hummingbirds and a short hike to the RMNP shuttle, this is your place. The cabins are not at all fancy, but they are always spotless upon arrival and have everything you need for sleeping and cooking. Despite being close to Estes, the stars are amazing, especially if you can time your visit to coincide with an August meteor shower, as we often do. As for the«rude and unattentive» owner of the place, I have never had such an encounter with Mr. Machin. Perhaps he’s seen enough fussy guests over his many years of ownership that he doesn’t cater to whining? Or perhaps he was having a bad week when the previous reviewer was there – regardless, I’ve never gotten a «miserable» vibe from the owner. I’ll keep going back to Machin’s as long as it’s open. Truly lovely.
