SELCO Community Credit Union

BY FAR, the best customer service I have had of any bank that I have used. I went to Selco with an urgent request of getting a cashier’s check (not even a member) and I felt more than a member, but a human.

In all 9 years of banking with Selco, I have never once had an issue! The tellers are friendly, helpful, and great at their job. Whenever I call with a question, they never hesitate to help and solve the issue quickly and efficiently. I will continue being a member for years to come.

Was not able to deposit check through drive up window this morning because I bank with a sister branch and it «takes too long to process those requests». Bummer. Came back at lunch and tried to deposit check into my fiancé’s acct, but apparently cannot do that through a sister branch. Not sure how much control the employees have over this, but I will say that I ended up depositing the money into my own account, and it took Nick about 30 seconds to do it. So why couldn’t we just have done that at the window this morning? There was nobody behind me and, again, it took him 30 seconds. Just FYI for anyone moving from out of area and considering using Selco as a sister branch.

My only experience with SELCO: One of their financial advisors advised an elderly friend, five years from retirement, to move a good chunk of his IRA money from a safe fund to a high-​risk high-​reward mutual fund. I’m no expert, but even I know that this is terrible advice that close to retirement. Unfortunately for my friend, it did not end well and he lost lots of money. This is actually the second time I’ve heard of very unsagely advice from a SELCO financial advisor, and the other time was also with someone older, with very little investment knowledge, and also who couldn’t afford to make mistakes like this. Either these advisors are completely incompetent or they had something to gain from taking advantage of people.
Either way, I’ll pass.

Utterly inferior to Forest Park Federal Credit Union.
Earlier this year our CU of 10 years was bought out by Selco. Ive had nothing but heartache and trouble from these people.
They cancelled my 9% fixed no-​monthly payment Credit Card, without my consent. They then gave me a 13.25% variable CC (which has a monthly min they didnt inform me about), without my consent. They also wiped out all of my electronic records and cannot obtain them for me, so now I have no way to confirm what ALL of my medical deductions for 2012 will be… GREAT. I dont keep paper copies in the house, its a security issue, and didnt need to because they were available digitally online.
Then they also wiped out my electronic monthly checking and savings statements. Gone. To get access to them I have to pay $ 1 a page. Its $ 3 – 5 a month fee to look at my own records over the past years if I need them.
Each time I have called someone at Selco, they have gotten short and snarky with me *without exception* when I try to ask questions about why all of this happened and what I can do to fix it. Just not polite, they interrupt, try to control the conversation and are not very clear. «We cant save your records because your FP CC was actually held by SIS». I ask, «Then why didnt you save my past 10 years of savings or checking records, if its because ‘due to outside companies’»? More snarky impatient replies.
I used to be able to call the same loan officer at Forest Park each time we were going to buy a car, or a house, and deal with the same person who knew our history, knew our family, and how we were.
Last time I bought a car, they gave me the check and took no information, and asked me to just bring the car on by tomorrow so they could get the VIN etc. Banking is all about relationships.
Now, I can not even call the branch I want to, where I used to know each teller by name and what was happening in their lives. I just get some random person off a main line. For a loan, I get a random person as well. How is this professional banking???
I’m a polite guy, I never raise my voice and I do not speak unkindly, not for any reason — and I’ve been tested over the years. I cannot understand why the Selco people have been such jerks to those of us having difficulty with the FP transfer/​buyout…
I liked using Forest Park because it was intimate, caring, and professional. The people there have always been nothing short of excellent, kind, and caring. Ive never seen different.
Today after another bout of impatient snarky Selco rep now explaining to me that I DO have a monthly minimum on my CC AND the 0% interest transfer balance they promised is non existant. Ive decided to just move everything over to the Chase accounts we’ve also kept. It may not be as awesome as Forest Park was, but at least I can call the same loan officer directly any time I need to, deal with the same very polite, warm and professional person each time, and build up a relationship as I should be able to with my bank.

If you want an antiquated way of banking, Selco is great. I prefer more locations, online banking, and customer service that is actually able to DO SOMETHING. I would not recommend Selco to anyone under the age of 75.

Left a mega bank and went to SELCO and boy am I happy! New mortgage at lower rate. Car financed there, credit card there now too. One minor complaint is the online banking is clunky but as they grow, they will probably fix that. If you want a mortgage, ask for Faye … she is TOPS!!!

SELCO is the sh*t!
Friendly tellers greet you at every branch. They offer a never ending array of services, both tradition and innovative. I love that they’ll make your debit card right there and then: no waiting weeks, no concern about it being mailed to an unsecured location.
Oh, they’re a credit union. That means no horrendous business practices that make you ashamed to have associated with them. They’re out to safe guard you funds, not frolic with them. They leave the latter up to you.

I have just started a political action committee and finding a credit union to offer us an account under the 527 status was next to impossible. the only credit union that offered to spend the time to investigate our tax status was Selco. I can say now we are proud members of this credit union.

To all you fools doing your banking with the too-​big-​to-​fail behemoths, jump ship!
I must have lost my card a half dozen times in the 8 years I’ve been banking with SELCO. Every time they are quick to respond and fix the problem without any fees.
Once upon a time I scored SELCO pens from the high school administration office for four years of my early post pubescent life. When I moved off to college I visited my local branch and asked if they would give me some pens for my collegiate years. They came out with a box of over 1,000 pens. I slang them thangs like tabs of E in the dorms and I still have a couple hundred under my bed whenever the need for click pen tugs at my heart.
If you don’t do your banking with a small credit union you support everything that sucks about our country including subprime lending, exotic loans, ponzi schemes, war mongering and Mitt Romney’s hair.

This has been my main bank for well over 9 years now. I have everything with them. Occasionally (maybe one a year) I overdraw my account. But a quick call in or stop in and no more over draft fee. I have great interests on all my accounts and I have NEVER had a problem with them. It’s pretty much a great bank. Not to mention I am a pretty big fan of moving our money away from big banks and into Local Credit Unions. Here’s a website that might be interesting for you…

I’ve never been to another bank or credit union that won’t provide change to the public. It’s hard to respect such a way of doing business.

First of all, it’s a credit union and not a bank, so it’s already head and shoulders in the right direction. I have been doing my banking here for a number of years and I have never been charged any outlandish fee’s or had strange things happen to my account.
The staff is very effecient and helpful. I had been doing my banking at Oregon Credit Union before. They had become very impersonal and their focus was more on money. I began noticing more and more restrictions on my account along with odd penalties and fee’s. I was finally so fed up that I dumped them and moved to Selco and have been happy ever sinse.

Who Can Join?
Membership in SELCO Community Credit Union is open to:
Anyone who lives or works in:
Lane, Deschutes, Linn, Benton, Marion, or Polk counties
Anyone who is a family member of someone who has an account at SELCO or anyone who has a family member who may be eligible for membership (even if they’re not a member).
All businesses located in any of our qualifying counties are eligible for membership.
How to Join
Eligible individuals may join the Credit Union simply by completing a print or online membership application, paying a one-​time processing fee of $ 5 and depositing a minimum of $ 5, which represents one share in the Credit Union.
Once you are a member, your individual family members may also join, no matter where they live or work. SELCO membership is a lifelong benefit. You need not relinquish your membership, despite retirement, change in employment, residence or marital status.
