Brackenridge Lodge

This quaint lodge, nestled in the Arkansas woods, has been one of my favorite stays, when visiting Eureka. The rooms are utterly adorable, cozy, cabin-​style rooms, many with jacuzzis and fireplaces. This time, our room had both front porch and back, covered deck, with a great woodland view. If it hadn’t been pouring rain and freezing cold the whole time, it would have been much more enjoyable.
I would give a 5-​star rating for the room, except… there were a few glitches and I would be remiss not to mention them. First, you are on your own for breakfast. That didn’t bother us, because we brought Thanksgiving leftovers along. (Rooms have micro and fridge.) However, they «winterize» their outdoor ice maker, so we had to «borrow» a few cubes from the front desk. No one wants to buy a bag of ice for two people on a one-​night stay. Second, there were only 4 paper cups in this room with no spoons or stir-​sticks, which made morning coffee a little tedious. Thankfully, I brought a knife for cutting an apple, so it doubled as a stirrer and eating fork. We found the old-​style fireplace, let more smoke into the room than we were comfortable with, as well, so one log, and we were done. Wi-​fi was basically non-​existent, so we resorted to our hot-​spots. We had less of these problems in the rooms with a kitchenette, of course.
The bed was great, room was quiet, quaint and full of atmosphere.
I still love this place, but will come a little more prepared next visit.
