Service and atmosphere was fantastic and I had the best old fashioned but be had in all of Humboldt. The mixologist that served us knows what she’s doing and she is also the manager! Incredible live jazz some nights.

Very nice, classy and friendly place to come. We were iffy on the town because it seemed old and hard to find anywhere nice and comfortable. However, we stumbled upon the Speakeasy via Unilocal and due to the good ratings and beautiful pictures, we had to check it out. We were delighted, the music was great and the atmosphere was very New Orleans! Thank you for the great evening… fyi we went on a Tuesday, closed early but the band was awesome and authentic.

Live jazz pouring out into«Opera Alley» on a Tuesday night, and no cover. But no food! What gives, California? Snacks would be nice at least :)

The drinks a $ 1 – 3 more expensive than other bars in the area and the inside is very tiny; However, this is a MUST. Whether you’re visiting or live here the Speakeasy is for you. The cocktails, especially the specials are amazing. Go during the holiday season and you will be rewarded with mood lighting, fresh fragrance, and an atmosphere to delight the senses. The bartenders here are friendly and true mixologist! If you’re on a date, this is easily top 10 most romantic establishments in Humboldt. I caution however, this is not a good place for groups. Keep you number under 4, otherwise it’s hard to be able to find a pace for you to socialize.

Was on a business trip, tried a couple bars and then found this place. Needless to say, I did not go anywhere else after coming here. The people here are all very friendly. I met one of the bartenders by the name of Thor. He was super friendly and I felt like I was a part of the local scene as he even introduced me to his local friends, which was really nice. They had live music that was super funky and upbeat. I really enjoyed this place and if I happen to visit the area again, I will be stopping by.

Superb little bar. The specialty cocktail are delicious, and the daily specials sometimes make me do a little happy dance. The bartenders are al delightful conversationalists, each with there own quirky charm. Expect to find some delicious, unique liquor choices.

I’m almost afraid to write a review for this place because I don’t want anyone else to know how incredible it is. After spending 3 years in New Orleans, this place looks like it has been transported right from the Quarter! It’s a small, quaint little place with a fun band on Saturdays &KILLER drinks!!! The drink menu itself is just over the top! We came in for a friend’s birthday & my husband & I arrived early. We easily watched the population of the bar TRIPLE in the span of 15 minutes. Really wish we would have gotten our drinks before that happened, but we just couldn’t decide! The Southern Peach is incredible! So YUM& smooth!

Hand’s down best Rasberry Jalapeño Margarita I have EVERHAD! My family and I were vacationing in Arcata/Eureka and one of our local friends recommended this place. LOVE that they make their own fresh citrus juice and simple syrup every day, fresh ingredients and have seasonal drinks as well. There was a great Jazz band playing the night we went, they were great-the only constructive criticism I have is that the music was a little too loud, I could barely hear myself think. Other than the music being too loud, the music itself was great, the atmosphere was so cool, the bathrooms were remarkably clean(which does not always happen in small bars) and the drinks were hands down the best I have ever tasted! Will definitely be going back during future trips!

This would easily be my favorite Eureka bar if it weren’t for the awful customer service. The ambience is amazing. The owners have clearly put their heart and soul into creating a beautiful, New Orleans inspired space. The drinks are so creative and well executed. I come here because the drinks are so unique and I appreciate the ever changing seasonal specials. It is rare to find a good, strong, creative drink in Eureka, and Speakeasy always goes above and beyond my standards. The reason why I always leave this wonderful bar with a bad taste is because of the consistently rude customer service. Three times now that I’ve been here with friends on a weekend night and we’ve been met with such uncomfortable rudeness from the same bartender. Simple services that customers should have the right to, such as paying separately rather than together or being given at least one minute to read the menu(which is full of amazing specials) before ordering, are made out to feel like unimaginable requests. Between the glares, rude hand gestures, and swearing at customers from behind the bar, I always feel uncomfortable and unwanted here. Having worked in customer service for years, I believe that the customer should be valued and I certainly have never felt like a valued customer here. Good customer service is not asking too much and you shouldn’t have to sacrifice those standards in order to get a good drink. Will I be back? Certainly. The drinks are among some of the best that Eureka has to offer. Come here for a fabulous drink, but don’t expect to be treated like a valued customer, much less a human being.

A small intimate place. I love the Side Cars, theirs are my fav. Been a few times, even with different bartenders the drinks on menu have been consistent.

This is probably the best bar in the area. The people tend to be really friendly and talkative. The music is chill, and not overbearing. The drinks are great, and the ambiance is quite pleasant. I want to rate this bar low so it doesn’t get crowded, but the place is great.

Amazing and creative drinks. Beautiful, calming décor. Nice ambiance. Almost always a band, sometimes incredible to sometimes yea I’m in Eureka, but always appreciated. $ 8 – 13 a cocktail. Have an average beer selection, higher end wines, but they specialize in the cocktails and liquor. Be prepared to be relaxed about getting a second, third, etc drink. It is a small place that on occasion can get a little crowded. You can also get there earlier and snag a table and bring some light fare or take out to eat there and enjoy the vibe and music. The music can be overwhelming for such a small place, so do not expect to catch up or have a heart to heart. It is truly a place to enjoy being with the person you are with and enjoy the awesome cocktails and music. The crowd can vary from older to the classic black out drunk looking for something gal. It has become our go to spot as an intimate couple and for Eureka… WOW.

The Jazz improv band was awesome, they would receive a 5-star review. But the barmaid was a snotty brat who clearly detests the idea of patrons. It was myself and my friend’s first time there. And she made what I can only assume was an intentionally foul old fashioned for me. She was so rude that we left after having one drink. If I were the owner I would fire her immediately, as she was being rude to everyone who dared step foot in the bar. I couldn’t even enjoy the music I came to hear because I felt so appalled by her treatment of me and my friend. We were so unnerved we discussed her and the way we had been snubbed all the way back to McKinleyville. Talk about making a strong first impression.

I’ve been here a handful of times with friends and each time I have been, it has been fairly crowded. The interior is unexpectedly fancy compared to the outside! The interior is also very small, so prepare to either sit at the bar or wait around for a table or booth. There are two booths to sit at and then maybe two or three tables with chairs and the bar has stools to sit at. The Speakeasy often has live music at night which really helps set the tone. One of the walls has lit candles on it– que romantico! My favorite part about this place is their star-lit ceiling. It has a very classy and unique feel to it. Prices are average for an upscale Eureka bar. About $ 8-$ 13 for a fancy cocktail. The bartenders are all friendly and attentive, and the bathroom is always clean(be sure to take a look inside– I think they won an award for most creative bathroom at one point). The Speakeasy is a chill place to sit and catch up with a friend or two. Just don’t bring the whole group cause you’ll likely have trouble finding comfortable seating.

What drew me here initially was the possibility of the live jazz that they host from time to time. Unfortunately, tonight was not one of those nights. No matter, we were still in the mood for a nightcap. The Speakeasy has an extensive selection of liquors, though not much in terms of beer. I settled for a black porter. Somehow, it was both light and chocolatey at the same time. Excellent choice. My wife, however, was not so lucky. She ordered a glass of draught framboise. This is a drink(and brand) that we’ve both had numerous times before, but something was off about it this time around. It tasted watered down, and had absolutely no fizz to it. Maybe it went flat from age. This place was nearly empty when we arrived at 9:00, perhaps because it was Memorial Day, but who knows. It looks like The Speakeasy could be a fun place if it had been more lively and had fresh kegs.
